In the Summer of 2008, I took a position in higher education and soon realized that I had found my passion. It did not take me long to realize that I enjoy helping others achieve their goals. I love seeing their sense of accomplishment and it is extremely satisfying for me to see others finish the degree they have worked so hard for. It is rewarding to see them achieve the educational and career goals they set out for at the beginning of the journey.
I currently work as an Academic Advisor at a state university and I plan to continue working in higher education for the remainder of my career. In the short term, I envision continuing to work one on one with students. In the long term, I see myself moving into an administrative role, possibly

I have wanted to pursue my Masters degree for a while, but I wanted to be sure that when I did, I enrolled in the right program and that the curriculum would be beneficial to my career and long term goals. The M.Ed. in Human Relations is that program. I feel the Human Relations M.Ed. degree will further develop my skill set and prepare me for additional opportunities in the future. The three main points listed in the program description: human behavior, the learning process, and interpersonal communication, are all topics I am very much interested in and which are necessary to be successful in my chosen career.
My undergraduate degree was a communication-based degree. An understanding of interpersonal communication is important regardless of one's chosen career field. It is fascinating to learn about how others communicate and beneficial to learn how to improve my own communication skills. The majority of the students I work with are international students and the Human Diversity course will undoubtedly be invaluable to me. I am excited to think about how my skills will be improved upon completion of this
There are a lot of reasons why I chose to pursue pharmacy as my career and they all point to the most important reason: pharmacy is a great fit for my life and is something I have become increasingly passionate about. It started when I was researching careers with my parents and my dad suggested pharmacy and, simply put, it sparked my interest because at the time it was one of the few things I thought I would not hate doing. A healthcare career has always been where I put myself in the future, mainly because most of my family members are in the healthcare field. However, I have never been one that could directly help the wounded or deal with anything gory, but am very intrigued by the growing science of pharmacy. As I continue exploring pharmacy, the more I enjoy learning about it and feel like I could excel in this career.
I grew up in a household where education was seen as a form of self-improvement and empowerment. Being raised in rural Central California by two Filipino immigrants who had nothing more than a high school education, my family did not have an educated or intellectual history I could look up to. That is, until my mother decided to get a college education at the age of 45. I must have been in middle school at the time, before which the word “college” was never really spoken or talked about and I could honestly say I only had a vague idea of what it even was. Rather than having the traditional sit down talk with my parents about higher education, my mom clearly spoke to me through example. I distinctly remember times where I would be her study buddy, and while doing so, I found myself leisurely enjoying the pages of her science textbooks. Instead of asking her questions related to her upcoming text, I inquisitively asked juvenile questions like, “How do the genes make us?” Today I know that this is a very big and complex question that we are still trying to answer. Yet at that moment, I wanted an answer, but mother did not have the solution, nor did the textbook. That was the birth of my pursuit of scientific career.
Soaked under sweat, I stood on the running machine, took a deep breath, and counted in my mind, one…two… three, GO! With renewed power and confidence, I started to run again with satisfaction. This moment happened every day in last summer at a gym and I lost 62pounds. Had persisted for five months, I am so proud of myself that I am able to achieve the goal of losing weight and established high self-discipline. In addition, I have gained great appreciation for the challenges. However, I also have grown up from this, on the other hand, frustrated experience. Not because the process of losing weight was painful, but because my by-product of the weight loss journey, my online team.

I am interested in obtaining my masters degree in the field of social work because I am passionate about issues of equality and fairness, and want to be in a position to help out in this area in a constructive and meaningful way. Social workers have the ability to make direct, beneficial changes in people’s lives, often the people who need it the most. It may rarely be world-changing on a macro level, but social work, when done right, can have world changing effects, for the better, on the people it touches.
Social workers understand how diversity can characterize and mold someone’s experience and how it’s critical to the formation of one’s identity. The elements of diversity are acknowledged as the crossroad of various components which include; age, class, color, culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, immigration status, political ideology, race, religion, sex, and sexual orientation. Social workers appreciate that, someone’s life experiences may include ill-treatment, poverty, marginalization, and alienation as well as privilege, power, and acclaim as consequences of differences.

Whoosh!A bed whizzed by, surrounded by about 6 medical personnel. “What’s going on?” I thought immediately with apprehension. I knew whatever was happening it was not ideal. Ensuring I was not in the way, I stood on my toes to see what demanded so much attention. To my astonishment, I saw a coin sized hot-pink little girl. She could not have been bigger than two quarters lying side by side.She was struggling! Even with all the procedures the doctors were executing to save her life, she was performing the most work.
My interest in becoming a social worker started at a very young age. I remember always possessing the desire to help people who were in need and have frequently being the person who others have approached when faced with difficult situations. Often, I felt as if listening was not enough. I remember feeling unequipped to help them. When I spoke about this career choice with some of the big influences in my personal life, I was told no matter what situation I have ever been faced with I have always managed to handle myself appropriately in what were, sometimes, delicate situations. In my first years of teaching I plan to get a better understanding of my school community and the surrounding community, so I know where and how to get support for my students. I plan on attending trainings to keep up with the various concepts and principles that I will have to follow when teaching. I will also need to develop deeper understandings of adolescent development which will help when I am teaching to see changes in behavior and understanding and how it relates to each individual student. As a long term goal I will build relationships with fellow teachers to provide them support and learn together to become a team of advocates for our students. I know that it is up to me to grow and continue learning all that I can to provide my students the best learning experience possible.
The purpose of this paper is not to teach you, or to show you how interpersonal communication is essential to everyday life at home or work. But, I am going to do my best to at least show you how essential communication skills are in all areas of life by using me as the example. My plan is to focus on some of the elements of interpersonal communication that we have been touching on this semester. While reading our Interpersonal Communications Book, three goals kept being highlighted that I personally wanted to accomplish by the end of course. I’m sure that by now have noticed that I keep referring to my topics as goals. The reason why I’m doing so is because I’m still on that learning curve…an ongoing process. ...my education at Concord University studying Elementary Education. After graduating with my Bachelors of Science in Education, I plan to get a job as a teacher in an elementary school. I believe that there is a need for compassionate and caring teachers in elementary schools. At such a young age, I believe that it is important for elementary students to have positive role models in their lives. I am very interested in pursuing my Masters Degree at some point, but my main goal is to get out into the school system as a teacher.
Through my own experiences, and as enforced by others' opinions in the profession, I have found that teaching is one of the most rewarding careers. Not only are you placed in the position of instructing and guiding children and young adults through the life long learning process, but you are able to give back to the schools and communities which have supported your early education and experiences that opened you up to a bright future. In becoming an educator, I hope to someday share the knowledge and lend the helping, supportive hand that I was once given, allowing students to formulate their own perspectives of the multicultural society and world around them. Through education, experience and personal morals, social justice issues pertaining to economic and social inequality have always been important to me. I have taken numerous undergrad courses on inequality including, Social Inequality, Social Welfare Policy, and my Social Work Senior Seminar was on Diversity, Human Rights, and Social Justice. Those classes and my field internships really opened my eyes to the magnitude of social inequality and how many individuals and families are affected. The society we live in is quick to forget about the many boundaries that low income families have to face on a day to day basis in America. Being passionate about this topic of oppressed populations made me interested in applying for the Springfield College School of Social Work. Its mission describes preparing their students to meet universal human needs based on principles of economic and social justice, dignity, and human rights. I know that I will be helping individuals and families living in high risk populations all throughout my social work career. Having those core values around teaching social work practice and knowledge, Springfield will equip me to excel my current education to make a difference in the future through my practice. I believe that the program and the courses that it offers will help me to develop my understanding of oppressed populations and ways that I can advocate for them at both micro and macro levels of social
Upon graduating from Concord College, I will attend graduate school and receive my Master’s degree in Education. I will be teaching at different places around the country, as I will be moving frequently. My future occupational plans include working with the Department of Defense school systems. I will use my educational background and my life experiences to enlighten and teach my students.
