Early Childhood Education There are many aspects to early childhood education including what all it contains and is being taught. People willing to teach in an early childhood center are vitally important for learning and have overwhelming benefits for the children (Teufel). Children are expected to know much more information at an early age, so it benefits children to have the opportunity to take part in a program before kindergarten. When seeking a career, it is important to see the future growth of the job and the salary. It will determine how difficult it will be to find placement. Early childhood educators are the first people to truly show an impact on children and will always be needed. The projected growth of early childhood lead educators between 2014 to 2024 is 7% (Elrick). They will be needed in the upcoming future and the projected growth is said to go up even further. The median annual salary in the United States is $28,120 (Elrick). Many people do not choose this career because the salary is very low compared to the amount of hours spent. How one plans to tackle all of the challenges will help them when making decisions in the future. To many people, early childhood education is unnecessary. I realize that going into this teaching field, I will most likely have to interact with adults who will argue that it is useless. The role of the early childhood educator, while rewarding, can sometimes feel as is you are climbing a mountain. Educators have to consider how to implement curriculum, instruction, management, and technology in the classroom. Educators also have to provide an environment where all children feel safe and nurtured. When creating a course of action, educators have to consider their role as well as the role of the student, parent, and community.
Infants in most facility are 200 dollars a week. For parents who rely on daycare, you then have to keep them home when they are sick and most of the time for 24 hours or more. That’s around 2 to 3 days of missing work. For 200 dollars a week, it adds up, more so when your child is sick. Am I saying children are expensive, yes and no. When it comes to daycare facilities, the place where your child usually spends more time awake than at home, then I would be willing to pay for a more expensive facility. I would be willing, but it wouldn’t be realistic. My dream is to become a future educator. Everyone knows that teachers do not get a high paying salary, so why I am I putting myself in that position? It’s something I love and have always dreamed of doing. When asked are some sectors of the population better able to access this care than others, yes they are. Full day kindergarten has children starting to learn earlier and for a longer period of time. A growing trend around the world, full day kindergarten is becoming more common within the school system. The question is, should Alberta implement full day kindergarten and what benefits and challenges does it have? As early childhood educators, we have many responsibilities to countless people and institutions. The most important responsibility that has been reinforced to me over the years is the responsibility for the well-being of children. Not simply the ones in my care, but all children everywhere. This can be accomplished in many ways such as advocacy. Organizations such as NAEYC, of which I am a member, engage in collective public policy advocacy which involves speaking out for and participating in activities that support and protect vulnerable populations such as children (Freeman, Decker & Decker, 2013). By volunteering at the Judy Center and after-school enrichment programs such as Bridges, I have had to opportunity and privilege to meet and collaborate with many wonderful social workers, advocates, and others who toil so diligently to improve the lives of children. “Helping young children become what they are capable of becoming is what the field of early childhood is all about,” (Colmer, Waniganayake, & Field, 2014, 103). In order to accomplish this, early childhood professionals need to continue to grow and develop as professionals. And so, the professional development of every early childhood professional needs to be seen as a lifelong task (Livingston, 2014). When I first heard the term ECE, my first thought was, YAY! I will be learning education content intended for young children. Specifically, formal school age children, kindergarten through fifth grade. Kindergarten is when education starts, right? I had always assumed “early childhood” to be a term used to describe children five to eight. To me, the term early childhood education (ECE) was primarily in regards to the education of elementary children. My understanding of early education, was constricted to my personal experiences with the term elementary, and how I synonymously used it with early education.

Early childhood education is most beneficial for children ages three through five and is also often referred to as preschool, pre-kindergarten, day care, nursery school or early education. Early childhood education is necessary for the preparation of young children for their transition into elementary school and beyond. Sending children who are of preschool-age to an early education program can have a positive impact on the child's life and give them a noticeable head start towards a bright future.
America is known for many great things but primary education is not one of them. Particularly in Arizona, education is ranked very poorly compared to all other states. The reason for this rock-bottom rank is because of low state funding provided to Arizona primary schools which have a direct correlation to a students’ performance in school. Also, this state reports the lowest amount of available dollars on instruction which impacts both the teachers and students in an extremely negative way. Overall, there are ways to solve Arizona 's lack of a decent primary education but without the support of an increase in funding, it will be hard to move up the ranking.
