Most can agree; Italian cuisine is one of the best types of food around. There are so many filling choices on the menus with delicious appetizers and wines to pair. Grumpys has several options that others can’t compete with. Carltons, on the other hand, is lacking in such aspects, but takes the cake in others. What do you look for when you enjoy dinner out with family and/or friends? Although, there are many similarities, Grumpys and Carltons are different in many ways, such as; environments, menus, hours and staff. As most know, the environment of a restaurant can change things from your mood, to the type of food you order. Grumpys has an open table layout on the other hand, Carltons doesn’t. Grumpys has a full menu loaded with delicious hot pastas or cool subs. They also have a large draft beer selection, as well as, wines to coincide the menu. If you aren’t into wine or beer, there is a mixed drink calling your name at Grumpys. The mixed drink menu has local names and with a bartender on hand anything can be whipped up, just the way you request it. Appetizers are also a must at Grumpys, hot cheese bread or cool bruschetta. Carltons however, has plenty of wine options but not many beer options. If you’re looking for draft beer, Carltons may not be your first stop. As southerners most love their pizza with a cold beer. Many enjoy the pastas on the menus. Grumpys has a daily lunch special which includes; pasta of your choice, salad, and garlic bread, at an unbeatable price. The dishes on the lunch menus aren’t too heavy and seem to be the perfect proportions. Carltons doesn’t offer that same deal on their lunch menu. One of the major differences between the two restaurants is the quality of their food and their services better provided to the customer. In-N-Out Burger is all 100% fresh product. The meat is never frozen, the lettuce is handpicked every day, and the potatoes are peeled and diced daily. The meat that In-N-Out receives is fresh and needs to be prepared in order for the restaurant to serve it. The morning crew arrives at 6am to do many things and one of those duties is to prepare the meat for the day. They have to shape, and season the meat before it can be pressed and cooked. The truck comes everyday with the calculated amount of sales. However, Jack in the Box receives frozen product. Calculated sales weekly and the trucks come only two days a week. The lettuce arrives at the store pre-cut and ready for use in the restaurant. Everything that comes off the truck just needs to be heated-up in order to serve. Another difference is the quality of the stores employees. In-N-Out Burger’s employees always have a positive attitude. They will always go out of their way to make sure all customers are 100% satisfied. Choosing a restaurant should focus on the quality of the food, the pricing of the food, and the competitiveness of that restaurant to its competitors. Olive Garden is one of the most revered Italian-American restaurants in the United States compared to its leading competitor, Maggiano’s. Olive Garden leads in lower prices, food options, complementary food, and even has lighter options for the health conscious.
Dave Thomas an American restaurateur and a philanthropist once said, “It all comes back to the basic. Serve customers the best-tasting food at a good value in a clean, comfortable restaurant, and they'll keep coming back.” (thomas). Everyone can agree on Dave Thomas, but I have a couple more criteria to add to his idea of a great successful restaurant. If I go out to eat I might as well pick a place that, though may be expensive, has scrumptious food because why bother going to spend money on food you can make yourself? A great restaurant has to meet three of my criteria’s: the Décor and atmosphere, impeccable service and cleanliness, and most importantly the food.
When you do participate in any of these events, you can top off the evening by enjoying one of the many dining establishments in the area. Residents of Atlanta are able to find just about any food type they can imagine. From small-town diners to classy family restaurants to the finest dining establishments possible, Atlanta has it all. In fact, many of the restaurants in Atlanta have received rewards and certificate of excellence notifications from notable magazines and publications.
These two restaurants do not compete for the same customers. McDonald's is located just off the interstate, so many of their patrons are not local residents. Another reason is that they are universally known. Fox's is further away from the interstate. Aside from the over-the-road truck drivers who know the area, most of the Diner's customers are local residents. As well as targeting different customers from Fox's Diner, McDonald's also places more emphasis on speed. McDonald's makes job specialization an integral part of their operation. They crank meals out on an assembly line. They use computers to take orders, automatic timers to assist in cooking, and radio headsets to communicate. Even the color scheme used by McDonald's promotes speed. Studies show that loud colors like red and yellow increase customer turnover. With the exception of handling money, tasks are shared by the staff at the diner and there isn't anything high-tech about the operation.
There’s a lot more to being Italian than the typical stereotypes that we have come to know from movies, television and books. From the Catholic mobsters who kill during the week but always make it to mass on Sunday, to the “how you doin” views of Joey from the television show “Friends”, people often forget the more important parts of being Italian. It is a culture like no other, full of history, art, and most importantly, their passion for food. Italian food, in my opinion, is the best in the world. Italians put so much into everything they make that the time and effort is tasted with every single bite. One of my favorite dishes would have to be fettuccini alfredo and it just happens to be a fairly easy, but extremely delicious, dish to make. Trust me, if I can make it, you can make it.
A beginner to Italians and their food, is like the Texans to their barbeque, it is something that you do not mess with. Italians have certain silent rules that really only Italians know, or people who have been there for awhile. They are super relaxed about many things, like train times, the market, shopping, but food is one thing that are uptight about. Some of the rules may include; pasta is never a side dish, never cut your spaghetti, do not use ketchup, and meat never belongs with pasta. These are some of the basic small principles Italians follow, and seeing tourist break any of those, is like watching someone eat ribs with a fork and knife. In America we have so many ‘Italian ' restaurants, who try to create an Italian meal, while adding in or taking away some things to please the American customs. When we go to order at an Italian restaurant, we will usually order a pasta, which is the same word for all. Whereas in Italy, pasta is an extremely broad term that is used to describe different
W- Domino’s will begin to see challenges if they continue to expand their menu. Due to their assembly line layout, food preparation is quick and simple and out the door, Domino’s doesn’t have many options that can be successfully added and executed. If the desire for additional dessert options or appetizers increases, Domino’s may not be able to meet the demand.
As far back as I can remember, I have always liked going out to eat. Two of my favorite restaurants are Jake’s and McDonald’s. Though both are places to dine they have their differences in their ambiance, waiting, and expense. When deciding where to go to eat, I have three things to think about. I must consider the atmosphere or where I want to go. The amount of time I have is another consideration. The amount of money that I am able to spend is a big influence.
