Originally, I had planned to go to the Tech and Engineering Fair, but I was unable to go as I searched for parking for over two hours and had to get to work. This was very frustrating because I was excited to talk with some prospective employers about what they wanted to see as far as schooling and other extracurricular activities. As a result of missing this, I turned to the online workshops to write my weekly campus discovery on. The workshop that I decided to learn about was about cover letters and application letters because I am sure I will write many more of both in my time that I am in school and looking for a job. Cover letters are an important part of every job resume because they state your qualifications as well as why you might want the job. Cover letters can make or break a resume and can ultimately get an interview if it is good enough. As I assume that I will be writing many cover letters in my remainder of time at the school and the rest of my life, I assume that it will be vital to my success for employment. This workshop taught me how to write an excellent cover letter for all of my resumes and prepared me to take the first step towards …show more content…
This section of the workshop will be vital if I plan to go to graduate school or apply to any scholarships as most of them require a personal statement. In “ 9 essay writing tips to ‘wow’ college admissions officers,” Paige Carlotti emphasizes how the essay is a crucial part of the college admissions process to really show off who you are. She explains that as high schoolers are trying to summarize their entire life into one paper, it is hard to find a balance between writing an essay that is personal, unique, and professional. While some kids wait and put it off to the very end, others spend weeks preparing and perfecting their statements. The author includes many direct quotations from writing coaches who understand what admissions officers are looking for and know the best ways to approach the essay. With these 9 writing tips, Carlotti ensures that it will change an ordinary essay to an

Writing essays was never my forte, it just never came easy to me like it would to others. Since other subjects came easy to me and I had to focus more than others on writing, I had a negative attitude toward the process as a whole. During this summer semester, I was able to grow as a writer, and gain a more positive attitude toward how I write and a better feel for writing in college. Writing a paper is a process in which there are many different stages. In high school I would never write outlines or any sort of pre planning work. Other struggles I encountered in my writing were my theses, and framing quotes.
Multiple essays have been formulated during the duration of Composition 1. These essays have taught me an important lesson about my writing, failure is acceptable in order to grow. On the other hand, I made an important discovery last year that I want to study journalism and advance further in that field after college. From taking journalism classes, to blogging in my spare time, to always getting an A on my papers, I thought I had no room to improve. I was mistaken. Therefore, because of the rigorous essay work each essay brought, I learned more about how to write different pieces and grow from my “failure”.
Thinking that I was strong minded and never looking at the negatives, ones suspicions changed my whole mind setting. After an endless wait in the mournful waiting room of the hospital, my name was called. The nurse brought us to Dr. Yazay's office where he confirmed his suspicions, and so began my life with scoliosis. Since the age of eight I have been swimming. I was a competitive swimmer for nine years, and now had to deal with a life without the activities I felt defined my identity. The treatment for my scoliosis involved wearing the most uncomfortable thing in the world which was a brace. With several restrictions on my physical activity, I had an abundance of free time on my hands.

One thing that people often overlook when writing an essay is not what the college can do for you, but what you can do for the college. With that in mind the attributes that I possess would make a great addition to and benefit the college greatly. My ability to speak in front of large crowds, lead, and my thirst for knowledge have sshasfdafy

A couple of weeks ago, the class was assigned a personal narrative essay and the prompt was to tell an interesting story of a specific experience that changed how you acted, thought, or felt. To be honest, I was awfully excited to write this essay because talking about myself is the easiest thing to write about sometimes. However, deciding what experience to talk about was challenging because I have already experienced so much in my seventeen years of being alive from dislocating my hip when I was three, to seeing my grandfather die in front of my eyes, from almost tripping off of the trail on the Grand Canyon, to meeting band members at an airport. Writing this essay brought me many challenges, I did not know what topic to
This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the time restraints are not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free moments I have. Strangely enough, I?ve found the college English experience to be much more rewarding and enjoyable than in high school.
Writing for me has always been a love and hate relationship since I could remember. Depending on the subject matter that I was writing about I would enjoy it because it suited my style or I loathed it because that specific style was uninteresting and boring to me. Learning certain writing formats were absolutely the worst part about writing when I first started learning in high school. As time pushed on and I grew older I began to develop an appreciation for writing that I did not have before; which is what led me to taking Writing 101 as my first full-fledged college course. I began this course with minimal writing experience because of what I failed to retain before, but now I am a stronger writer than I could have imagined with new skill sets that enhance my professional portfolio.
At the start of this class, I made a goal to develop my writing skills to better prepare me for other courses for my degree. I knew English 106 would be different compared to any other English or college courses that I have taken. I knew English 106 environment will let me grow in diverse writing dimensions. My long serving years of experience in the military has exposed me to many cultures around the globe. In just seven weeks of the course, I have seen some improvement in my writing. This course has afforded me with several techniques that have made writing not only a little bit easier but also more in-depth resulting in a higher level of academic writing versus my normal military style writing. Now I understand the writing process and
Gender Inequality in Cosplay Introduction Cosplay, the combination of the words “costume” and “play,” has become a pop culture phenomenon in the fandom culture. Cosplay is a performance art where participants dress up as specific characters from a television show, franchise, or, most commonly, an anime. Cosplay typically occurs at conventions, such as Animazement in Raleigh, North Carolina or the San Diego Comic-Con. The role gender plays in discrimination of costumes is startling.
