Reflection Essay A couple of weeks ago, the class was assigned a personal narrative essay and the prompt was to tell an interesting story of a specific experience that changed how you acted, thought, or felt. To be honest, I was awfully excited to write this essay because talking about myself is the easiest thing to write about sometimes. However, deciding what experience to talk about was challenging because I have already experienced so much in my seventeen years of being alive from dislocating my hip when I was three, to seeing my grandfather die in front of my eyes, from almost tripping off of the trail on the Grand Canyon, to meeting band members at an airport. Writing this essay brought me many challenges, I did not know what topic to …show more content…
The easiest part of the essay was writing about myself I mean who knows more about you than yourself. Since I decided to write about my favorite experience, the words flowed freely and I remember the year of that concert like it happened yesterday. What was difficult for writing this essay was word choice, how to explain my feelings, and the amount of words. Getting prompts that tells the maximum amount of words is awful for me because I love writing excessively and maximum amount of words are my nightmare. However, on this essay, there was a minimum and I had no trouble reaching the minimum. Throughout my school years, I have been great at vocabulary tests and quizzes, but applying those words in my writing has been difficult. Also, I find that writing down feelings is intense and it takes time, especially when you are a teenage girl with a lot of emotions that do not really make sense. Writing this essay without using the words, “Oh my,” and “Ugh,” was difficult for me because those words sums up everything about my experience. I felt like I spent enough time on this essay because I reached the minimum amount, I told my story without missing any detail, and I had a lot of fun writing it without feeling
Everyone has a special event that determines our life journey. This event can give us identity, happiness or even pain and sadness. The special event that changed my life was deciding to play basketball because basketball helped me find peace, happiness and gave me identity. When I was ten years old my grandfather succumbed to cancer. His death created hatred inside of me.
A person does not experience many events that shape their life in a large way, whether it be for better or worse. I have had just one major situation that has sculpted me into the person that I am today. In February of 2008, I was diagnosed with a life changing disease; it would relieve me of the agony I had been experiencing for as long as I could remember, but also restrict my diet for the rest of my life.
The first essay assignment of the class was a simple five-page narrative essay about any moment in my life that left a large impact on me. This
I am always a little nervous and hesitant when I begin writing an essay. Ever since I was little I was an honor roll student, passed all my tests, was placed in honors and AP classes, and eventually graduated a year early from high school. I used to be so confident when I would begin writing a paper, I could finish it within a couple minutes. During junior year of high school, I began taking duel credit classes. I was passing all the classes so far until I reached English 111. It was an 8-week course and I started to get overwhelmed. All throughout the course I was having a little bit of trouble on the essays. I would still receive a passing grade, but it wasn’t an A. I began becoming a little discouraged and didn’t understand what was going
this area but I’m going to improve on it. The process of using multiple drafts has
An experience that helped shape my life is the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. When I was 9 years old, on January 12 2010, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 hit my country. This was the most life changing experience that happened to me. I was at home doing my homework, when I felt the ground start to shake. My mother and I, were the only ones home. When the stuff and the walls started shaking my mother and I began running for cover. The ground kept trembling and we were scared. Within a couple of seconds we were on the ground. I lived right in front of a university that was multiple stories high, Which resulted in most of their debris falling over unto my house. That was the last time I saw my mom. I was under the debris of my house screaming
This past semester in engile 101 I have learned how to take writing papers and make them my own. For the first paper in the class I was able to talk about a personal belief that I needed to find. In the rhetorical analysis paper where I was given a paper to read and evaluate the writers work and draw my own opinion on it. And in my latest paper for English I was to research something that I didn’t know about and join the discussion. For each of the papers I have always tried to put my personal spin on my papers even if that meant going off the prompt and writing.
Everyone has a story, a pivotal moment in their life that started to mold them into the person they are today and may even continue to mold you to the person that you will become, I just had mine a little bit earlier than others. When I was three years old my brother became a burn survivor. It may seem too early for me to remember, but I could never forget that day. Since then, I have grown, matured and realized that what my family and I went through has been something of a benefit to be and an experience that has helped me in deciding what I want to do with the rest of my life.
B. J. Neblett once said, “We are the sum total of our experiences.” This is true in everyone. Humanity as a whole is shaped by certain experiences and all have defining moments, whether good or bad. This essay will share two significant moments in my life and how they have defined me. Many people often ask me how I became a Florida Gator fan.
Writing for me has always been a love and hate relationship since I could remember. Depending on the subject matter that I was writing about I would enjoy it because it suited my style or I loathed it because that specific style was uninteresting and boring to me. Learning certain writing formats were absolutely the worst part about writing when I first started learning in high school. As time pushed on and I grew older I began to develop an appreciation for writing that I did not have before; which is what led me to taking Writing 101 as my first full-fledged college course. I began this course with minimal writing experience because of what I failed to retain before, but now I am a stronger writer than I could have imagined with new skill sets that enhance my professional portfolio.
For a long time I have been interested in the subject of psychology. The ways people behave and why they do certain things has always fascinated me and makes me question myself a lot. To answer these questions, I started to read many books that related to psychology to gain as much knowledge as I can. I now have a better overview of psychology so I would like to continue to further my knowledge at a higher level in Berea College.
My interest in public interest law, nonprofit advocacy, and social justice began at a very young age. My passion was influenced by my upbringing, as well as my journey down a path different from what my family and culture envisioned. It is this same divergent path that has led me to me to pursue the legal profession today.
This is my first semester in college. Being a new college student, I was very nervous about how college life went about and how I would manage school, work, and raising my child. Thankfully, this class is required for incoming students, or else I never would have thought to take it. Throughout this semester, I have learned more about myself, what I truly value, my personality type, my multiple intelligences, my learning style, and how these are all correlated to my long- term career goal.
I am taking a Lakeland Community College Credit Plus (CCP) class this semester. It is a college level English class. I was so proud that I was able to take such a class my sophomore year. My assignment was to write an essay about a personal narrative. My teacher allowed us to pick our own topic of choice. That, I thought, was going to be great. I have always felt writing about something or some personal experience is so much easier; than an assigned topic. The words
Junior high drama is everywhere, just like oxygen to breath, you can never get away from it no matter what. Stumbling back into the junior high was the last thing I wanted to do, but I had my parents on my back. All I thought about was high school, and how I wanted to be there instead of this prison. I would move on to bigger and better things in high school. Thankfully, this was my last semester then I would be set free, leaving it all in the past. I was hoping to get through this hell with out any setbacks, but I must have jinxed myself. Some of the mistakes I make I can just blow off, but this critical mistake could cost me my future. Until this day I can still remember every thing that happened. I have always asked myself, “Why did I forward that message?”
