One thing that people often overlook when writing an essay is not what the college can do for you, but what you can do for the college. With that in mind the attributes that I possess would make a great addition to and benefit the college greatly. My ability to speak in front of large crowds, lead, and my thirst for knowledge have sshasfdafy One addition I could add to the college is my public speaking skill. When I was younger, a local church was having a “Youth Day”, a day where teenagers and children take over and run the entire church service. From ushering, to singing, acting as deacons or even preaching, we did it all. Two kids and I were asked to preach for that service, and naturally I was scared at first, but I decided to get out of my comfort zone and give the church a sermon. sermon with my father and before I knew it, it was time preach.
The other two children that were asked to preach went ahead of me and they were as nervous as I was. As soon as they finished I stepped up to the podium and all nervousness and anxiety went away. I finished giving my first 20 minute sermon with no stuttering, no hiccups, or mistakes. Throughout my school career I have been placed in many leadership positions. Many times when there is a group project to be done the group that I am assigned to choose me to spear head the project. In middle school when I was a part of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), I was chosen to be the president of the group. I value school and the things we learn in it. Some courses may not be my strong points but I still try to take away as much as I can from the subjects. I am currently in the dental program at E.C. Glass, and every day the teacher shows us a new tool or technique I’m in the front of the class studying it. Even in my English courses, I take note of the information my teacher gives us and apply it to my writing to improve it. My thirst for knowledge doesn’t
end at academics, anytime there is construction or car maintenance going on around I am as close as I can get to it without getting in the persons way. If my Grandfather is working on his truck I am right beside him asking questions and paying attention to everything screws, unscrews and repairs in case I have to do it to my own vehicle one day. The skills and attributes that I possess, public speaking, leadership, and a thirst for knowledge make a great fit this college.
I am always a little nervous and hesitant when I begin writing an essay. Ever since I was little I was an honor roll student, passed all my tests, was placed in honors and AP classes, and eventually graduated a year early from high school. I used to be so confident when I would begin writing a paper, I could finish it within a couple minutes. During junior year of high school, I began taking duel credit classes. I was passing all the classes so far until I reached English 111. It was an 8-week course and I started to get overwhelmed. All throughout the course I was having a little bit of trouble on the essays. I would still receive a passing grade, but it wasn’t an A. I began becoming a little discouraged and didn’t understand what was going
Learning to love who you are is not easy, but with the help of my small group, I realized that I have a great outgoing personality, and with my story I could help numerous kids. I was determined to be a leader on a Kairos retreat and share my story so people in the same situation I had been in know they are not alone. When September came around it was time to apply to be a Kairos leader and after submitting an application, I was one of the eight students chosen to lead. Immense amounts of time went into planning the entire retreat and writing my 30 minute talk I would give. I requested the talk “The Real Me” because of its great impact on me, and was given the talk even though it is normally given by an adult leader. On the first day of the retreat my nerves were off the chart because very few people knew about the information I would share the next day. All the students on the retreat were from my class of 280 students, some of them being my closest friends do that knew none of the information, so saying I was nervous is a bit of an
Attending college has changed quite a lot over the years. When it first arose, it was only accessible to the wealthy, and it was unheard of for everyone else. Only a few decades ago, a bachelor's degree could almost guarantee a comfortable job, and it was another advantage to any resume. In our current times, many students struggle and are unable to go to college due to the rising price tag that is not showing any signs of slowing down. A college degree is what most employers look for now-a-day, making it more essential than ever before.
College instills attitudes, skills and other characteristics that make college graduates different from those who do not go on to college. It will help the student develop skills specific to their career path and crucial for future job success
The members of the Committee on Admissions seek to gain an understanding of you as a person through a written essay. This essay is your opportunity to discuss an idea that is important to you, to write about a person who has influenced you, or to describe an experience that has helped shape who you are. The committee is also interested in how you think and how you express your thoughts.
Mesa Community College is a big community, and a perfect site to implement any service learning because the choices are numerous. I have been part of this Community College for the last two years, and I felt that I could do something for it, but I was not sure what. It had to be a study and service related with students and technology. At the time of the decision, I was reading a book about how technology and personal devices are leading in the lack of conversation, and is also interfering in interpersonal relationships in society, specially in young people. I was observing students at campus, and classmates at classrooms, and it was true, people go and back through the campus and classrooms as robots, without look at each other, or even saying anything. I thought that a Conversation Club would be a good idea for having students talking with their peers for one hour, being aside of devices. Then I thought that it would be a good idea having the Conversation in Spanish, since Spanish is my mother tongue. This would provide not only conversation to students, also the opportunity of improving their skill in Spanish, and the opportunity of meeting other people from different countries and different cultures around the world. Mesa Community College has a multicultural community, with students from all around the world, and this club would take the opportunity to bring different
My course in EN100 this fall semester of the 2015 year was a person growth experience in both my life outside of school as well as my growth in school. I’ve learned all too much in the months of being in the course. I do believe all while I’ve gained a lot of skills in the course I’ve also learned of areas that are lacking. I began the semester as a raw student with high potential given the appropriate and adequate effort on my behalf. I knew a little about writing before I entered the class, however, the things that I didn’t know outweighed that of what I did know. For example I could write a paper well enough to get a B grade but I couldn’t write a paper higher than that because areas of organizing, thinking, fast writing all were areas that
Writing for me has always been a love and hate relationship since I could remember. Depending on the subject matter that I was writing about I would enjoy it because it suited my style or I loathed it because that specific style was uninteresting and boring to me. Learning certain writing formats were absolutely the worst part about writing when I first started learning in high school. As time pushed on and I grew older I began to develop an appreciation for writing that I did not have before; which is what led me to taking Writing 101 as my first full-fledged college course. I began this course with minimal writing experience because of what I failed to retain before, but now I am a stronger writer than I could have imagined with new skill sets that enhance my professional portfolio.
At the start of this class, I made a goal to develop my writing skills to better prepare me for other courses for my degree. I knew English 106 would be different compared to any other English or college courses that I have taken. I knew English 106 environment will let me grow in diverse writing dimensions. My long serving years of experience in the military has exposed me to many cultures around the globe. In just seven weeks of the course, I have seen some improvement in my writing. This course has afforded me with several techniques that have made writing not only a little bit easier but also more in-depth resulting in a higher level of academic writing versus my normal military style writing. Now I understand the writing process and
My strengths are active learning, mathematics, monitoring, reading comprehension, speaking, active listening, instructing, social perceptiveness, equipment maintenance, installation, operation monitoring, programming, repair, troubleshooting, system analysis, system evaluation, management of personnel resources, time management, word processing, graphics, database, internet, presentation, spreadsheet, navigation, and Quality Control Analysis.
1. Throughout the unit of snorkelling, I developed, extended and applied my SACE Personal and Social Capabilities by, developing a sense of personal identity and self-awareness. This was achieved by, utilising and expanding my knowledge and achieving an Australian Underwater Federation (AUF) Snorkelling Certificate. This certificate opens a wider spectrum of jobs opportunities and improves your resume significantly if wanting to become an Aquatics or Snorkelling Instructor, or a Marine Biologist Teacher.
I am taking this course because I mean it is a requirement for being able to apply for becoming an RA, but really it is even more than that. I am hoping to learn; how to better my time management skills, how to be an effective leader while having the role of an RA, how to facilitate discussions between residents and myself, and lastly, how to be the best overall resident’s assistant I can be and pointers on being able to do that. The role of an RA is probably common sense to most people, but to really understand it is the difference. One should be able to bring residents together as a community not just on their floor, but in the hall and on campus as a whole. This year I live on the first floor of Hurst Hall. My situation is probably much different than most of the other residents on Ball State campus because where I live we have only about twenty girls on the floor when many other floors have a lot larger amount. My floor mates and I are definitely a close knit family, and I know quite a few people throughout the building due to my involvement in Hall Council and being our first floor representative.
Campus life can be exciting and challenging for most people who start to live on campus for the first time, especially when one has to face the collisions of different cultures and beliefs. I have to go through this as well. It was in my freshman year in a university in China when I started to live on campus which was far away from home. Even though I had prepared myself to face new challenges and to adapt to the new environment, I still had to cope with some difficulties in relationships in order to get on well with the others, especially when people who didn’t understand my faith wanted to disprove it, because I have the Christian faith. After experiencing life-changing events and seeing my mother’s testimony, I became a Christian when I was in High school. What’s more, this faith did not only make me a new person but also let me grow up by carrying me through some hardships when I started the life in the university. It was
College is meant to prepare you for your future career and the real world. So far I feel like I’m adjusting to the fact that I’m on my own here at King’s and don’t have my parents telling me what to do all the time. Becoming independent is a big key that you realize in college and I believe I will definitely utilize that in the real world. So far my experience with college has been good. College is a lot of work and I expected that so I wasn’t surprised when I had days where I had to spend a couple hours at the library. My classes are decent, some are harder than others and I have to put a little more effort into those ones. I also have experienced my first biology and chemistry exams, and they were both in the same week which was very stressful.
Applying for a master’s degree has been an extended journey with interesting twists. I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. Even since I was a kid, and without me even know it, I was creating communication tactics to persuade. At the age of 8, I sent a letter without my parent’s consent to a children’s magazine in Santo Domingo called “Al Compas”, encouraging and creating awareness about contamination and discrimination against children with disabilities. During my high school years, I transformed most of my classes’ presentations into TV programs to facilitate my classmate’s interest in the presentations and avoid them to get bored by hearing the same information over and over. At the end of High School, I received the “Student Excellence Award” and won a scholarship to study in Universidad APEC, where I started a Bachelor degree in Communication, majoring in Advertising.
