I realize that many other students applying for this scholarship will have great academic records and may also be in clubs like myself, but I believe that I will be able to put the scholarship money to good use and not waste a cent of it. The one thing that sets me apart from everyone else is that I appreciate anything anyone does for whether it is helping me up when I fall or if my friend lends me a small amount of money and does not want it back. It is sad to see when people get scholarships and fail classes or will not try as hard because they did not pay for it out of pocket. I will always try hard in college whether or not someone gave me money to assist me or I paid for it myself. I realize how valuable money is and I will never waste
such a precious gift. People take things for granted nowadays and show no gratitude whatsoever. On that note I would like to thank you for the chance to enter your “Courage To Grow Scholarship”.
In a world where most college freshmen do not graduate or dropout, i feel like it would mean to much more to me to graduate and be able to say I got my degree. studies have said that half of freshman will not complete there degree, another study said that 25% of freshmen will change their major before they finish their sophomore year. If i was given this scholarship money it would put me in a place where hopefully I won't become just another statistic. Another reason a college degree is important for me to achieve is so that i will be respected in my work industry of choice. When you are in a place of work, there is always someone who everyone looks up to because they know the most about certain things, but more often than not that person has the highest degree in his or her field. If I was awarded this scholarship i would be more capable of being that person because i would not have to worry about leaving school to figure out how I will pay off my
As a young lady graduating from The Dalles Whatonka High School I think it’s important to be involved in as many activity’s as possible. Throughout my high school years I have been involved in many school activities and comities such as student government. I have always had an interest in athletics and played sports. These leadership and athletic roles have tough me skills that will last me a lifetime.
Writing essays was never my forte, it just never came easy to me like it would to others. Since other subjects came easy to me and I had to focus more than others on writing, I had a negative attitude toward the process as a whole. During this summer semester, I was able to grow as a writer, and gain a more positive attitude toward how I write and a better feel for writing in college. Writing a paper is a process in which there are many different stages. In high school I would never write outlines or any sort of pre planning work. Other struggles I encountered in my writing were my theses, and framing quotes.
Multiple essays have been formulated during the duration of Composition 1. These essays have taught me an important lesson about my writing, failure is acceptable in order to grow. On the other hand, I made an important discovery last year that I want to study journalism and advance further in that field after college. From taking journalism classes, to blogging in my spare time, to always getting an A on my papers, I thought I had no room to improve. I was mistaken. Therefore, because of the rigorous essay work each essay brought, I learned more about how to write different pieces and grow from my “failure”.
One thing that people often overlook when writing an essay is not what the college can do for you, but what you can do for the college. With that in mind the attributes that I possess would make a great addition to and benefit the college greatly. My ability to speak in front of large crowds, lead, and my thirst for knowledge have sshasfdafy
As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. As I grew older I developed other reasons for wanting to attend colle...
The process of preparing for college is an arduous process. College is an instrument used to have a successful life. However, getting into college is difficult. The competition for college admittance is extremely high. Most students do not take the necessary actions to ensure their admittance. Consequently, many students do not get attend their ideal college. Therefore, I have taken steps to make certain that I attend the college of my choice, By taking care of my class ranking, actively participating in school functions, and researching my intended degree, I have set myself up to attend the college of my choice.
Writing a timed essay can be nerve racking, time consuming, and accompanied by many trial and errors such as an art project. First step is quickly generating an idea which can be the biggest challenge of all. Then you have to decide on what evidence to incorporate and its correct placement. You begin to throw colors and shapes together, or in this case details and evidence, in hopes that it will transform into a pleasing design. Being challenged to create an artwork, whether it be an essay of painting, in sixty minutes becomes extra pressure. After a month into school, I was able to experience the dreadful event of generating an essay during the class period. Being faced with this challenge has not only helped
Horses have always played an important role in my life, but it wasn’t until I decided to pursue competitive show jumping that I realized the time, dedication, and money required to partake in the sport. Many people don’t realize the financial requirements that come with owning a horse, especially a show horse. Competitive riding and horse ownership are not hobbies that one can pick up and put down whenever it is convenient; they require constant commitment and, oftentimes, sacrifice. Fortunately, my mother recognized my passion and supported my endeavors, allowing me to pursue my dream of competing at the Winter Equestrian Festival.
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
Receiving this scholarship would mean that I would not be required to pay a portion of my housing costs while housing at Texas A&M. This would help tremendously as other funds could be put toward other tuition fees and expenses. I have taken any honors and AP classes throughout high school that were available to help set me on an excelled track for scholarships. My most challenging classes have been Calculus and English. But overall I have enjoyed pushing myself in these classes because they have given me the chance to explore more of myself as well as build my knowledge. I have been one to study and retain information well throughout my schooling. I like to accomplish my goals in a precise timeline and stay dedicated to my current work. If
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” I ask my six year old sister.
When considering my application, I ask that you graciously consider all that I have accomplished throughout my high school career and all that I aim to accomplish in the future. Despite attending an academically strenuous high school, I have managed to remain in the top 10% of my class with a GPA of a 3.926. In addition to that, I managed to obtain a 28 on the ACT, a 1790 on the SAT, and 1820 if you super score the total of the SAT tests I have taken. In addition to being academically strong, I am extremely well rounded. I am currently the president of the Cedar Hill Mayor’s Teen Council, an organization in Cedar Hill that I have been a part of for three years.
Moving into a country of unfamiliar traditions and eccentric society, I faced a lot of challenges. However, it was these challenges that provided me with the determination and dedication to work hard and strive for success. I was born into an athletic and educated family in Ecuador, and day after day without stopping I gave my best to achieve my gymnastics and educational goals. Falls, injuries, and tears were rewarded with reputation, pride and gold. Those medals and awards had more emotional value than material, and they came to symbolize all my effort.
I deserve this scholarship because I’ve got good grades. I’m in the top ten on the class and have a current GPA of 3.77. I’m involved in band, cross-country, basketball, and track. My grades are currently in the A- to A range. I also haven’t been late to school without a good reason.
