Part B: During my two-week period I started a “stress diary’ documenting my progress with putting the four A’s into action in my life to relieve stress. Firstly, the four A’s refer to: Avoid, Alter, Adapt and Accept. I first tried putting the first A into practice, being Avoid. During this three day cycle I specifically tried to say “no” to tasks people asked me to do that I knew I didn’t have time for, I avoided people and situations that cause me stress and I made daily “to-do” lists explicitly outlining all the tasks that needed to be completed for that particular day in order of priority. I did this through looking for the bright side of every situation, trying not to control things that can’t be controlled and by sharing my feeling about situations, either positive or negative, in a calm, respectful and kind way. By putting all these things into practice my stress levels were drastically decreased. Holistically I was happier, calmer, I could sleep better and was feeling more energized than before. I am ecstatic that I decided to try this method to reduce my stress and will recommend it to anyone. 2.1. I will continue to use the 4 A’s and a Personal Stress Diary. In addition to this I will use exercise as a distraction from stress and a tool to release endorphins to uplift my mood when I’m feeling tired and overworked. Above that I will also alter my diet to include more healthy foods which will also give me more energy and improve the overall look of my skin, allowing me to be more self-confident. 2.2. I chose to add exercise to my plan as I am a very active person in general and enjoy being outdoors. I also tend to eat a lot of junk food which I realize is a bad habit and decided that making it part of my plan would be beneficial to me and my health. My time bound goal relating to my stress is too continue using the new breathing techniques and journaling techniques I have learned and apply them to my every day life. By January when our next semester begins, I should have a control over my stress and know how to reduce it or avoid my anxiety. I think it is important to continue visiting my Psychologist once a month, until she feels that our meetings are no longer necessary. Exercise regularly. Physical activity plays a key role in reducing and preventing the effects of stress. Nothing beats aerobic exercise for releasing pent-up stress and tension.
Other techniques to reducing stress, is listening to music, pampering yourself a massage/spa day, talking it out to family/friends, baking/cooking, praying/meditating and even playing with your pet.
Stress can come from any event or thought that makes us feel frustrated, angry, or nervous. All of us experience stress and usually cope with it well. Stress is an omnipresent part of life and is a reaction to external stimuli that disturb our physical or mental equilibrium. It is a system in our body that helps us to deal with real danger and / or perform at our best. Any event or happening that induces stress is called stressor.
My term paper is on the topic of stress. Not just normal stress but I am focusing on stress with in women, young and old. For this term paper I am using three articles that are studies from professional psychologist on how stress with other conditions affects the women's health and emotion's of women. My last article is an interview form of six women with significant stress which induced health issues and they fought back, and developed their own arsenal of stress-busting habits. I will summaries the articles in the following paragraphs.
I was tired of being overweight, feeling tired all the time, and I wanted to get my confidence back, I knew in order to do that I would have to make a lifestyle change. I had no prior knowledge of health and nutrition, so I wanted to increase my knowledge of the basic areas of health and wellness to implement in my daily lifestyle. My hope was to create a strategy that could be implemented in my daily life that could give me a solid base for starting my weight loss
One of the few steps that have helped me immensely are step 1, step 5, step 9 and step 17. Each of these steps has their own way changing a person’s perspective. The first step says we are required to observe our behavior; does what we say affect us in a negative or positive way? What we need to analyze is whether or not we are subconsciously insulting someone or are they offended by what we said? We need to think before we speak, and that is a problem for some people, including me, I am a social extrovert and occasionally I may make impulsive responses and won’t realize what I said before I realize someone did not like what I said. However, that is when step 5 comes into place, it talks about reviewing our responses in order to see our thought process and what were some strengths. Another is to practice positive thoughts one thing we need to keep in mind, we need to be assertive with ourselves, at times we can be our worst enemy so being self-motivated can help you in the long run by having confidence and how others with positive conversations. Additionally, with positive reinforcements comes rewards, the last step, says it is important to provide ourselves ongoing support and receive a reward for asserting ourselves this way we can have encouragement at the end of our
Creating an individual health and wellness plan helps you plan for your future of creating and /or maintaining a positive, safe lifestyle by addressing underlying issues. “No matter how hard we try and no matter what skills we bring to bear, some problems remain out of our control. When this is the case, we can tell the truth: ‘It’s too big and too mean. I can’t handle it.’ In that moment, we take a step toward greater health” (Ellis, 2015, p. 320). Problems and their solutions within a health plan can be evaluated through five different categories: Diet, Exercise, Rest, Safety, and Health Support. Today we will discuss how I was personally affected in each of those areas and how I plan to implement a solution.
Stress is defined in the dictionary as “state of mental tension and worry caused by problems in your life”. Everyone encounters stress in their life caused by many different variables in life and we all cope with in different ways. The way one copes with the stress is how it can affect our body. Some take to working out, eating healthy, take breaks from what is stressing you out and getting plenty of sleep which are good ways to cope with it. Some take to other coping mechanisms that are not very great for the body. Some examples are stress eating, abuse of drugs and alcohol, bottling up the stress, and depression. These bad methods can cause serious damage to one’s health on the body.
Stress is something that everyone has to deal with in life, whether it is good or bad stress. Stress management techniques are a great way to deal with stress. Some of the stress management techniques that I learned from this course are prioritization, scheduling, and execution. Using these techniques has effectively helped me deal with my own stress. When it comes to dealing with stress I still have many strengths and weaknesses that I will explain. Some stressors I have in my life that I will discuss are psychointrapersonal, social, life events, and daily hassles. Next, I will give my opinion on my post-course survey, and compare and contrast it to my pre-course survey scores. Finally, I will explain my last goals for this stress management course.
So, if one is felling like they are lost reach for some help before it becomes a bigger problem. One thing that can help with stress is exercise. Researchers have said that exercise has helped cope with stress by having milder physical stress before and after exercising. Nutrition can also help with stress this means consuming a healthy breakfast. One major key is avoiding caffeine because it tends to raise blood pressure. One important item that mostly everyone leaves out is getting enough rest. One’s body should sleep at least a good 8 hours every night. Stress is a major cause of heart disease and my stressors have increased. I know I must do something to offset the effects of it our I will end up like many of my ancestors— dead by the age of 60. Once I incorporate these two changes in my life I expect my stress levels to lower and the effects will be more than simply weight loss and physical condition.
Stress is in our everyday lives. We allow things such as the way we live, school, work, family, relationships etc to stress us out. Some people deal with stress way different from others. Some may know how to cope with stress better than others. We allow stress to take a major toll over our lives when we are suppose to fight it, but a lot of people can’t do that. The circumstances of our lives flow through a psychological filter, and how we assess an event will directly influence how much stress we experience. Since stress cannot be avoided, we must find a way to cope with it. By coping with the stressors in life, you may be able to lead a healthier and happier life.
Stress, we all struggle with it. "Stress" is a word we're all familiar with, some of us maybe too familiar. Stress cannot be avoided and it is not possible to entirely eliminate it from our lives. The hassles, deadlines and frustrations have made stress so common that it has become a way of life for people. Life is full of challenges, and a life without it is not only impossible but is also undesirable.
