I believe that an extremely important trait, not only in school work but real world engineering as well, is the ability to learn and adapt quickly. Learning to learn has been one of the most interesting aspects of my college career, but it has been a large factor in the way I manage both school and work. When learning a new computer program or taking a different math course than last semester, the information and process can change but if one can adapt to the new situation they can easily be successful. Similarly in cooperative education, students will be expected to preform in various circumstances but if they are adaptive and flexible, they will be successful in their work.
If my co-op placement requires me to travel or relocate I would look forward to it. Relocating from Dallas to Tuscaloosa has already been an incredible experience and I would have no issues relocating again. Although I would be away from campus and various school events, I am confident that I would find other ways to enjoy my time wherever I am sent. I believe that travel allows for a new outlook on life as a whole and greatly boosts creativity.

After learning about a website which allowed the bulk purchasing of consumer goods directly from China, I created an online retail store to individually sell said goods at a high mark up. I still continue to do this today and have since branched out to the reselling of used electronics as well. When I finally became of working age, I got a job at a local restaurant as a server and later switched into retail where I was quickly promoted to manager. Although none of my work experience is in the field of my future career, I have learned many skills ranging from costumer service to resource management through my previous

When the time comes to talk about college, a large number of questions arise. Although many come forward, the first question is if college is even affordable. The main problem families’ face is the difficulty to pay for college, especially with the current economy’s condition. Patrick Callan, president of the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, states “Given the financial hardship of the country, it’s simply astonishing that colleges and universities would have this kind of increases” (Lewin). What if a young adult has a dream to attend a certain university in a different state? Residency regulations cause the cost of out-of-state schools to raise tuition to almost three times the cost of in-state; however, this alters many students’ decisions on where to attend college. While personally experiencing this problem, I was forced to go to an in-state school instead of following my dream and attending Auburn University. ...
Each team members need to be involved positively and willing to communicate effectively to make the collaboration successfully. It is the ability that extremely important and useful for everyone to learn and utilize whenever at school for group paper or at work for team project. Especially, I am in the finance major. I definitely sure that I will face lots of team work in the
Dweck states that there are many characteristics that separate students success the main one being mindset. She continues proving that there are two different types of mindset in a student one being fixed mindset the other being malleable mindset. The study showed that fixed mindset student tend to not take risk and challenge themselves because they are scared they won’t get praised anymore if they fail. While malleable mindsets tend to challenge themselves therefore become more knowledgeable and surpass the fixed mindset in testing and learning skills. Students who read this article can be encouraged to
Every college student must be thinking and worried about his or her academic success and educational degree. San Jose Mercury News Editorial, authors of “Remedial costs are too high for CSU to bear” highlight that San Jose State University policy which took place in 2009 is about freshmen students who are required to take remedial classes since their math and/or English basic college-level are not good enough. To notice these students that they need help early, CSU created the Early Assessment Program. Even though, CSU created the voluntary Early Assessment Program which has an essay and two dozen questions that are included in standardized tests given to juniors, many students did not pass it. Those students who do not take the Early Assessment
As Carol said “Students stop working when school become challenging” “negative effect on student’s mindset, harming their motivation to learn.” (Carol 2) It’s very true because I feel like giving up when it gets harder in school. I lose focus and I’ll tell myself I don’t understand and lose interest. Some student who consider themselves to be fixed mindset tend to believe they are not up to task and will mistake. For student with growth mindset, they are willing to learn more and to challenge themselves. Carols states that student with different mindsets have different reactions to setbacks “Growth mindset reported that, after a setback in school, they would simply study more or student differently the next time. Fixed mindset was more likely to say that they would fell dumb, study less the next time, and seriously consider cheating.” (Carol 3) Even with different mindsets, we shouldn’t use stereotype and encourage with the same positive
I am fortunate to have particular insight into this matter, as many of my family members went through the process right in front of me. I remember my father doing his residency and fellowships at University of Miami during my elementary and middle school years. As a family of six, we were compelled to be conservative. I bought my first bike for $8.00 from a garage sale and it was pink. My brother, my friends, and I would play basketball outside our home by aiming to hit the top of a pole due to the lack of a proper hoop. My mother had to exercise patience with my father busy in training. Our family moved multiple times throughout the state of Florida, including between Bonifay, two homes in Miami, Ocala, and two homes in Panama City before finally settling down. These experiences have taught me in regard to being humble, working hard, thinking creatively and dealing with
I have had several places of employment since completing high school in Media, Pennsylvania in 2009. During high school I worked at a retirement home named, Rose Tree Place where I learned compassion, patience and was lucky enough to meet some very amazing individuals. Upon graduation from high school I moved from Media, PA to West Chester, PA which is about a 30-minute drive. This 30-minute commute was not an option for me, so I left Rose Tree Place about a month after graduation and found a job at a convenience store/gas station named Wawa, as a cashier. I truly enjoyed working at Wawa and learned many valuable skills such as speed, flexibility, customer service and the art of small talk. I was employed with Wawa for the 8 months following graduation. My next employment came on May 24, 2010 when I left my home in West Chester for Marine Corps Recruit Depo, Parris Island, South Carolina for the grueling 3-month long recruit training.
...ur life or in your career, we need to be flexible and adjust to these changes. We must also continually learn and try to understand people, new concepts and think outside the box, because, as Marc said, if we do not take risks, if we do not fail, then we do not succeed.
Adaptability: I find adaptability to be one of my talent. I am able to adapt to any given situation or environment faster than my peers. This is mainly due to the fact that all throughout my life, my family and I have been moving: Nigeria, Ghana, US, and currently Belgium by myself. This led me, at a young age, to learn to quickly adapt to my surroundings in order to continue on with my life or else I would be stuck in a situation with no escape. Studying to Belgium also proved to be useful in improving my adaptability skills. The school system was completely different from what I ever experience especially with studying in the US for the majority of my life. If I didn’t have the adaptability skill and was unable to adapt to the school system,
I am applying to transfer to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, because of my strong interest in the School of Education. Currently I am enrolled in a Community College that I have found to be indeed different to the four-year college I attended during the Fall semester of 2015. Despite, the many differences, I have equally valued the education I have received. The University of Chapel Hill has always been a college that stood out to me, since my junior year in high school. Although, from fear of being rejected and lack of belief in myself, I did not apply my senior year in high school, but now that I am soon to completing my freshmen year as a college student, I have realized that my potentials and capabilities to achieve anything are highly great. I am very hopeful that my academic credentials will suffice to compete with other transfer students applying for admission.
Through out the course of the past 5 days I learned a lot. I learned that the internet is not a place only meant to read about horrible news stories or read hate comments on social media or even maybe admire all the people you wish to be. I learned that it is a place where, if you dig deep enough, you can find a caring and helpful community. You can find a place where you can become what you want. I learned that when life doesn't go your way take actions so it does go your way. I learned that even when things seem useless or helpless, they aren't, because their is always a path. I learned to not sit around and wait for life to go by, but to take actions so I can live a life that I want to. I have finally started these actions.
Continuous learning is, therefore critical.”(22) This brings about greater rate in survivability and adaptability. A personal experience of mine was my first year at Carleton, has I was trying to get a grasp on my time management skills, which I still am even has this essay is being read. It began with the transition from a high school environment to that off a post-secondary, which was quite stomping, it required adapting to the new environment, learning how classes we thought, how to budget, learning to pay bills, learning to balance responsibilities while having greater autonomy etc. Has well as a lot of things which I had never dealt with, I made a lot of mistakes along the way, and still am. But the key point is with the sudden transition and changes met, constant error and feedback from my environment; professors, tutorials, landlords, managers each motivated me in one form or the other and resulted in me being more adaptable and efficient in my performance and productivity has a whole in various aspects of my everyday
Since a young age I became to realize that playing the school game would get me to achieve one of my biggest goals which is to attend a four year college. I learned that being a smart quiet non trouble student would get me to accomplish this dream. During middle school I would work really hard to always having straight A’s on my report cards. It seemed really easy during middle school since I didn’t have difficult courses. But this changed once I entered High School. I had to give more effort and spend more hours of doing homework every night. I was also determined to take the most rigorous classes available. Frequently I had to sacrifice my free time in order to do homework. Throughout this I was able to demonstrate to myself that I am capable
Taking the student development class was very helpful. I feel that all the different topics we learned were very important because they all show us what we can do to become a better student. The one that I felt that helped me the most is the student educational plan. Like I said in the final discussion, when I arrived enrolled in Bakersfield College in the spring of 2014, I had to figure out what classes to take on my own. I did meet with a councilor when I pick out my classes for the first time. The councilor ask what I wanted to major in and I told her nursing. All she told me was that the classes I needed were all full already. She didn’t even tell me which classes they were and I was too shy and nerves to ask. So she helped me pick out two general education classes and that was it. She did not let me know about the student educational plan or tell me what kind of class I should take next.
