However, many officers and high ranking officials did not believe in the concept of needing to obtain a college degree in order to protect their community. A majority of police officers in law enforcement did not have a college degree nor did police departments require it to be considered a position. Moreover, many police departments did not necessitate a high school diploma but rather a general equivalency diploma. The first time that this idea was utilized was during the time of the 1960’s, when, in the early 1960’s, crime was increasing drastically and by the late 1960’s the ghetto riots took place, opening the eyes of those in charge that something needed to change, and change quickly in order to prevent criminal activity and chaos.

Mandatory military service is a course to make a fit and capable citizen. First of all, military service can help one's character . More specifically it gives good tools so that people can work well in a team, be more organized in everyday event and good discipline. Secondly, it can offer education to people in need. Furthermore it will help people in bad neighbourhoods or is living trough a thought time and give those without the means to be in a home and have a job. Thirdly but not least mandatory military service could be looked at as a dept owed to one's country, loved ones who are protected if ever needed and most important to our right to democracy.
Army life can be very challenging and a life changing experience. It was very challenging and life changing for me. I was raised by my Grandparents they did everything for me so this was a wakeup call for me on life. An independent person was not I, so I had problems with the changes about to come. Army life is constantly demanding and constantly changing without notice. Although the travel was exciting, army life for me was very challenging because I had to learn to adapt to a new system, to share my life with other soldiers, and to give up many of the comforts of home.
Hopefully I will be able to call myself a cop one day. After that day was over and I took the papers home to my parents all they wanted to do was show everyone on my family that i was going to become a cop. Just thinking of it as i'm typing this is giving me the chills. I also think that this will benefit me in several ways. One of the ways is that my family would be proud to hear that I am a cop. The second way would be that I would also already have lots of experience. After all, selflessness and courage are traits, which cannot be taught through an academy, they are things instilled in you from your childhood years. Possibly the years you were watching the “Caped Crusader” fight for good. I’m happy to have those memories, and maybe they are part of the reason I have wanted to be a police officer.
