My practicum was an exciting opportunity to learn and gain classroom experiences in the early childhood education field. Although my field experiences require energy, time management and personal commitment which was the fun part of the program. My children were considered the highlight of my practicum. My practicum gave me ideas and inspiration for caring of children. I devoted five hours out the day from Monday thru Thursday with a total of twenty hours a week. When I first arrive for my practicum, I noticed some new faces in the classroom that I had not meet. The new children were hesitate and did not speak to me at first. However, as days went on they began to open up and have conversations. For the first time, I was able to see how children adapt to one another along with interactive with teachers and their …show more content…
The group of Head Start children were eager and willing to learn and interact with the materials. As I was conducting my first activity, most of the children asked various questions. Question such as, “what is this white stuff and what do we do with it”? This white stuff looks like whip cream”? Shaving cream was a new activity for these children to explore. I notice with the shaving cream the children wanted to wash their hands constantly and return back to the shaving cream to keep playing.
This practicum experience has allow myself the opportunity to create many new learning activity ideas for children. As such, I realize how much I have learned by interacting with the children and the effort teachers put in their students. While conducting my activities, I notice my children progress by small measures. Most of the children recognize the letters in the names which was a huge milestone. However, some children only recognize begin letters of the name. Each month I would re-test to see what other letters the children had
The Child Development Center of College of San Mateo provides early care and educational programs for children between the ages of 3 to 5 years old. Children are divided into classrooms with a “master” teacher, a “regular” teacher, and two or three “associate” teachers. Klara attended Classroom, “A,” a stimulating and well-resourced classroom. Klara was observed for two hours on Monday from 9 am to 11 am and for two hours on Wednesday from 9 am to 11 am. During these two hours, classroom activities consisted of “free time,” “story time,” and an outside “play time.” A “master” teacher, a “regular” teacher, and two “associate” teachers were present during observations. Additionally, a total of eighteen children were in attendance during the observed days.
Many individuals, teachers or not, only do what they are asked or expected to do. However, going above and beyond and being able to have greater influence on a child’s life is my goal. I know I will love my job and in this position, children and families will be going through difficult and not normative life events. It is essential to extend further assistance to make each individual feel important. Being someone who can help families understand and make their lives a little bit easier by providing support and encouraging optimal development, I can hopefully make a meaningful impact on a child and/or family. The child and family satisfaction would bring happiness in itself and be worth more than
The occupations that I have chosen to analyze using the three elements for this assignment are paraprofessional, what I am currently, and a teacher, what I am going to college to become. Teachers and paraprofessionals work side by side, collaborate, plan, and share many of the same experiences. However, paraprofessionals are often not treated as equals and has created some ethical judgement regarding treatment of the paraprofessionals from other teachers and administrators in the business of education. I want to use this assignment as an opportunity to distinguish the true professional using the elements designed for this course.
A walk through demonstration and rationale discussion completed the WinMed experience. Learning about emergency lighting, testing of emergency lighting, fire extinguishers use/deployment/charge monitoring, sprinkler systems with backflow prevention valve, smoke detector yearly cleaning, cleaning of general areas including bathrooms, trash pickup and disposal, biohazard disposal, sharp containers, standard precautions, and biohazard facility pick up opened my eyes wide to a whole new world.
This is my first practicum placement in the Lethbridge community and in a daycare centre. It has given me a different, but good experience from working in a Parent Pre-School Program (PPP). This placement is different from my last two placements, because it has allowed me to gain more experience with younger age group of children. The placement still gives the children the opportunity to learn through their play in play areas of language, art, water, sand, blocks, and kitchen (dramatic play). They also, have the ability to provide additional play areas, such as infant play, play dough, train set play, and outdoor/gym time to exercise their gross motor skills. The placement is a bit more structured by offering a time schedule of outdoor play,
Practicum Portfolio Research Undergraduate clinical placement and education are regarded as essential for student learning to develop into entry-level health professionals. Practical placements generally aim to progressively allow students to have more responsibility of real clients under the guidance of qualified, experienced practitioners, thus attaining a level of confidence and competence worthy of an entry-level health practitioner (Lekkas et al., 2007). Practicum portfolios, partly due to their widespread use, have been shown to have a high face validity been shown to be an effective method of recording students’ clinical education experiences (Roberts, Newble, & O'Rourke, 2002). Unfortunately, there is an empirical lack of research
Caring for older adults requires health professionals with knowledge and skills in geriatrics and interprofessional practice (IPP) (Ryan, et al,2013). Geriatric knowledge is required because the clinical presentation of older adults are unique and complex (Heckman, 2010).On the other hand, IPP is important because health professionals come from diffident and carrying different conceptualizations of the patient, thus the development of cohesive practice among the health professionals is required to fulfill the needs of older people (D'amour, & Oandasan, 2005). IPP is an approach to practice in which professionals from health and social care work together to provide seamless service for clients and families (Miller & Freeman, 2001).IPP assumes that health professionals from different backgrounds work collaboratively with each other (Mccallin, 2005).Interprofessional collaboration (IPC) is defined as a “process in which different professional groups work together to positively impact health
This field experience was innovative, fun, and a great learning experience. I was able to follow an ENL teacher who has worked in the field for roughly 10 years. At the same time I was able to see the teacher- student relationships of many different professions, and able to observe the dynamic relationships of ENL, Special Education, Literacy, Writing, and Classroom teachers. This diverse population of educators, make up the schooling systems, and are molding the students of our society.
Washington State University College of Nursing has provided me with a vast range of opportunities. One of the most significant learning objectives that I met was applying management/leadership principles to my nursing practice. My clinical and practicum experiences have helped me master my management and leadership skills. For my community health clinical, I had the opportunity to develop a health fair. One of my classmates and I planned, organized, and ran a health fair for the homeless population in Yakima.
I have had no prior experience in the field of mental health. My undergraduate degree is in biology and I spent most of my life working in the field of BioScience. Sense I have already started at the clinic, I can say it is an amazing experience. Each of the other counselors are in their supervisory period of their licensure.
This experience as a whole provided me with the opportunity to show my professional quality as an educator, a cooperative team member, and a lifelong learner. A few things that I continuously had to reflect on throughout this experience was my self-competence, my performance as well as the children’s, and of course my professional demeanor which directly impacted the effectiveness of my planning, teaching and...
Applause thundered in the auditorium. I was nine years old and had just delivered my first solo musical performance, singing poems of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in Bengali - a language that wasn’t even spoken at home. I learnt to play the Indian reed organ - the “harmonium” at the age of six, as a part of my training in Hindustani classical music. It took regular practice sessions to make my fingers adroit in adhering to the grammar of the musical compositions and rhythmically coordinating with the beats of the Indian drums - the “tabla”, played by my music teacher. I became a good team player with an eye on the overall goal from the start.
Growing up being the oldest of 5 I know the challenges that it takes to look after a young child and the skills needed to keep a child entertained and focused. I have always enjoyed working and looking after children and watching them thrive and develop in what they do. The satisfaction of helping a child and seeing them succeed is what has motivated me to want to study child education. Whilst studying psychology at A-level it has given me a deeper understanding on the critical need for a child to be in an environment which helps them develop and function in society properly.
I am a hard-working, confident and conscientious and have a keen desire to be a primary school teacher. The main reason I want to pursue this vocation is because I love the prospect of working with children, being such an important part of a child’s life is a real honour. I have been fascinated at how quickly they learn things, gaining an insight into their perceptions and how they see the world, the idea of playing an active role in helping them develop, greatly appeals me. Having a long term goal of working with children, I believe I am particularly suited to a degree in Primary/Physical education. I gain huge satisfaction from being able to help them learn and discover new things about the world. Nurturing a child’s development is an occupation that offers huge satisfaction, both intellectual and emotional. My ambition is to be in charge of a classroom, to introduce ideas and skills to the class and observe and feel their response. The teacher’s skills of good communication, patience, clarity and the ability to explain the world are very demanding of one’s intelligence and one’s p...
My decision to educate children originates from my fieldwork experience during my undergraduate career. This experience allowed me to interact with children in both primary and secondary school levels. Though both school levels were beneficial experiences, I developed a stronger connection with the
