I have had no prior experience in the field of mental health. My undergraduate degree is in biology and I spent most of my life working in the field of BioScience. Sense I have already started at the clinic, I can say it is an amazing experience. Each of the other counselors are in their supervisory period of their licensure. They each are very different and have different styles and specialties. I truly enjoy the diversity. My favorite part is the group supervision when we talk about our clients and they bring challenges or concerns. I really like to hear everyone’s feedback and what he or she think might work or what they may think. It is a wonderful experience. My role as the practicum learner is to obtained as much knowledge and understanding of the counseling profession utilizing my practicum experience, my sight supervisor’s guidance, the courseroom instructor and platform. It is also the learner’s responsibility to avoid plagiarism in all work that is submitted. My site supervisor’s primary role in my overall practicum is to provide me with guidance and support. Within the confines of that role she will also provide feedback about my sessions and case presentation in an effort to encourage personal growth for myself and for my clients (Russell-Chapin, 2016). The function of my courseroom instructor is to provide support to the practicum and provide feedback throughout the practicum experience. This is accomplished by providing discussion questions and monitoring and reviewing responses to learners for better understanding of the practicum experience. The Director of Clinical Training (DCT) functions as the site coordinator, assuring that the site is appropriate for the practicum along with all the appropriate certification and licensures.
