Ethics The ethical issues that I have observed or encountered was when one of my clients was
Acting inappropriate by making sexual comments in the session. My supervisor asked him to stop and told him that if he does not, the session will end and we will leave. The client did end up stopping. Another issue is when my client opened the door with no pants on. My supervisor told him to put on pants and that we will wait outside until he does. He shut the door and put on his pants and then we were able to begin the session. Another issue is when one of my clients asked me to take her shopping and to spend time with her. My supervisor told her that I will not be taking her shopping and that she needs to ask a friend or family member. She

Foundations Counseling Center focuses on dealing with the client’s current situation. We would get information from the client’s past during their intake session, but would try to keep the focus on how the client was currently doing instead of trying to figure out why the client may be dealing with that problem. I have learned that if we focus too much on the client’s past they may never think they can overcome their problems and …show more content…
I was more patient with each one of my clients because I realized that I do not have to accomplish everything in one session. I have realized that it takes time for a client to work on their goals and objectives and that it does not happen overnight. The Lord really helped me understand this because of how patient He is with me and my sin issues. He does not expect me to change overnight. He just wants me to become more like Him daily. He is proud of me whether it is a small step or big step and does not love me any more or less whether I improve or not. Remembering this truth helps me deal patiently with my clients. It reminds me to treat them with love and grace whether they improve or not. I also improved by giving my clients more responsibility by giving them homework and asking them what they think they can do to improve their current situation, instead of them relying on me for the answers. I think doing this gave them more hope that they can make it on their own and that they do not need me or any other human being to give them all the answers. I think for many of my clients this helped build their self -confidence and self-esteem instead of finding their self-worth and confidence in another
This case arose when I went out of town on my first business trip. I have been a sales trainee for the last six weeks, and my supervisor felt it was time to send me out. I was lucky enough to get sent with the number one sales rep for the company, Vince Collier. I was excited because I knew that if I was going to learn the best ways to make a sale, it would be with Vince.
The one skill that I used more of was empathy; I wanted the client to know that I understood her situation as well her feelings. At the end of our conversation, I summarized everything that we talked about, especially her want to open up to her parents and express herself to them. She mentioned that she wants them to fell empathy towards her, because the lack of parental empathy that she felt when she was younger, has even affected her in her adult life (Kilpatrick,2005).
The receptionist was on the phone for quite a long time before she could reach out to Ms. Patient. In the end, the receptionist just took Ms. Patient’s insurance without any clarification and made her wait for a while. Additionally, she was unable to focus on Ms. Patient and got distracted when another patient asked for indications. The receptionist clearly indicated unprofessionalism when she was unable to provide adequate information for the patient when she was disoriented. Also, the receptionist did not have any manners when she failed to excuse herself when another patient wanted to speak with her. Ms. Patient stated that she felt extremely vulnerable and lost when no one was able to help her understand what was going on. Therefore, the healthcare team in this case was unsuccessful in providing a caring and helpful environment for the
She did not respect my position and she considered me as a companion rather than a superior. I believe it was due to the fact that I was aware of her personal situation and me not being honest with my supervisor of her lack of performance.
So your opinions on the topic may or may not help out the situation and also in some unfortunate cases can send the client into a ‘downward spiral’. By expressing your ethical issues on the topic to your client you may trigger unwanted emotions. These unwanted emotions can drive the client to hurt themselves or even make the client take legal actions towards the counselor. Ways to prevent this from happening is learning your own self-control and what your limits are when its comes to dealing the client. “You want to consider the best action that will protect your client’s needs, but you also want to ask yourself: What is the best action to protect the profession and myself? (Berton, J. D. (2014). Make the Rule to Break the Rule: Setting Your Ethical Standards. Counselor: The Magazine For Addiction Professionals, 15(5), 10-12
Today I challenged myself to look at my clients differently, and to be quite honest it made me feel a lot better. I thought about how I would feel if someone treated me like a liar; I would more than likely be disappointed and act in accordance. Miller's comment made perfect scene, and I will continue to treat clients in accordance.
This includes any sexual or racial misconduct. Anyone that does not act in a respectful manner to others will be reviewed as non-compliant and disciplinary actions may be taking accordingly.
The counselor accomplishes the above by expressing empathy, developing discrepancies, going along with resistance and supporting self-efficacy. Moreover, the counselor guides the client toward a solution that will lead to permanent posi...
...ersatile and positive orientated framework. By looking at the person and their story, I assert that a comprehensive view of the client can be reached. The empowerment and positive nature of the solution-focused modality undoubtedly generates results. However, I do no think these positive results could be reach without some traditional base as appoint of reference. While this will serve as my main counseling format, I am aware that I will need to be versed with other counseling and testing techniques.
Ethics is the judgement and the moral actions used in interactions with cultures and society and its focus is on the client well-being. Ethics is defined by Remley and Herlihy (2010) in the counseling field as “professional behavioral and interactions” (p.4). Counselors do rely and are guide by Codes of Ethics. The role and relevance of the ethical principals, the ACA and AMHCA Code of Ethics are the base of the counseling profession. Without them this career would not have a guide on how the professionals should act and react professionally in all the different situations that are faced in this field.
At the same time of this occurrence there were other things that went on pertaining to transference and counter transference. The Intern and I definitely had some type of strong transference and counter transference going on. There was a clash of personalities between the intern and me. We totally did not get along. I felt uneasy and that she did not want me there in the room with her. Why? I thought that maybe she felt challenged. I don’t know, but I felt I asked the patient questions that she forgot to ask. I also gave her my opinion about treatment principle, which I do not think she appreciated. With my previous interns, I was very much part of the intake and treatment process. The interns and I would ask questions. If one forgo...
¬When considering what my own personal philosophy of counseling would be, it was eye opening to consider who I was a person and how much I have grown. The self analysis was new to me because I never thought about how I do that on a day to day basis. Reviewing the questions I found that a lot of my focus surrounded family, my significant other, and close friends. Constantly living in a diverse population and having that as my surrounding also made its mark in my answers. I also noted that both past and present influences, but primarily the present, play a large role in my own perspective. By following the prompt, I was made to understand that my thought process makes me think of what is occurring in the present and how I can alter these happenings to help shape the future that I want.

Ethical issues in a counseling practice lay the foundation of a therapist in practice. Ethics are at the center of how the counseling process functions and operates in a successful manner for the clients who seek help in such a setting. In order for the counseling profession to be ethical and hold professional recognition, there are many facets that need to be examined and outlined to make sure all counselors and practitioners are functioning at the highest level and withholding their duties required by the counseling profession. The first introduction so to speak of the area of ethics also happens to be one of the first steps in counseling, which is the informed consent. The informed consent provides the basis of what happens or will be happening in a counseling setting and serves to inform the client to their rights, responsibilities, and what to expect. Most importantly, the informed consent is in place for the client’s benefit. It also is important to understand that culture and environment play a role in the treatment of a client and how theories can positively or negatively impact this treatment. Therapists need to understand how to work within the context of a theory while being able to understand the individual in their own environment. Although theories are put into place to serve as a framework, there are also alternative ways to approach counseling, one example being evidence-based practice. Such an approach is very specific, which presents a series of solutions for counseling as a whole, but also brings forth many problems. Every approach or theory introduces ethical concerns that need to be taken into consideration by the entire counseling community and how each can positively and negatively affect clients and the pr...
