Peter as a Good Role Model for Christians Despite His Faults

If someone is your role model you look up to him or her for support

and guidance, like Peter did with Jesus. Peters role model was Jesus,

both a teacher and a father to him because Peter left his family to go

with Jesus (Mk 1:14-18) Jesus said to them, "Come with me, and I will

teach you to catch people." At once they left their nets and went with

him. This shows that Peter dedicated his life to Jesus and to God.

Some people say that Peter is a good role model because Peter also

gave up his whole family and friends to follow Jesus this was a tragic

thing to do back then and still is now. It was the ultimate sacrifice

to just leave your family after so many years of being with them. This

also shows that Peter really trusted Jesus and would do anything for

him. Peter doesn't ask us to do anything that he wouldn't be told to

do by Jesus. Peters name was changed from Simon to Peter when he

started following Jesus. In another gospel, Christians learnt that

Jesus called Peter his "Rock" this is whom Jesus was going to build

his church upon.

Peter was the first apostle to be chosen out of the twelve apostles.

This shows that he was very important to Jesus and helped Jesus many

times throughout the story. Peter is trustworthy, when Jesus heals

Jairus' daughter and after the Transfiguration he is told to keep

Jesus' secret and does so.

Peter recognized his faults. When he denied Jesus three times he broke

down and cried after he denied him. Peter fought back and his spirit

was strong, unlike Judas who betrayed him then went away and committed

suicide. On various occasions such as the transfiguration Jesus picked

only three disciples to witness these events. The first person to call

Jesus " the messiah" was Peter, which was a courageous thing to do

because no one else dared say the word because they were scared of
