There is still a number of students who usually do not know what they want to do, and this where volunteering can help. Volunteering can be done in almost every work work place, with this advantage students are able to try out or experiment in different field ls without having to make a long-term commitment to it. With this being said there are also other students who know exactly what they want to do and the path that they want to go in, and volunteering can allow them to be apart of that field so that they get some experience in their area of interest. This will help them figure out if they still want to go into occupation of interest. In many places where students complete their community service they are exposed to people that are new to them and as a matter of fact this can actually have a good effect on them because they are given an opportunity to practice new life skills that is used in a workplace. Some of these skills are teamwork, communication, problem solving, project planning, task management, and organization which are all used in a workplace. In addition to the improvement on skills; volunteering can help bring into contact new people such as, professional organizations or internships that could be a benefit to your career. Meeting these contacts can help in your future because when you start looking for a line of work in
This school should not require 100 hours of community service as a graduation requirement because of the busy lives of teenagers, the pressure of graduation, and loss of enthusiasm for community service. Schools should encourage community service but this is not the way to do it.
If students want to learn more about their field, they should feel inclined to actually do the work on their own. Also, if a school makes each student complete at least 24 hours of community service to graduate, every student in the school will graduate with the exact same amount, which means hundreds of students are going to the workforce with no advantage over the other.
Community service is a common service for people to take care of each other and volunteer. People apply to different community services: soup kitchen, taking care of children and homeless people, clinics, churches, schools, neighbor's house and many countless places to volunteer. Some people really enjoy to work at community services while others do not. These community services can be a punishment for criminals because a court assigns them to do so. However, some people do not agree with community service supporters. While some people believe that there should be a community service requirement for high school and college graduation because students need to learn and have experiences there, they are right; on the other hand, a community service requirement should be allowed for two reasons and not be allowed for another three reasons.
Community Service is a service that is performed for the benefit of the public or its institutions. There are two groups who perform community service, and those are criminals and the rest of us. This means that, for the majority of us, performing community service is completely voluntary. It is for this reasons li that I believe that community service should not be mandatory in high school for graduation. The supporters of this act think of it as an ideal society’s noble concept, but it is rather a noble concept trying to force an ideal society. When you look at it from this perspective you realize it is ironic.
Community service: What a wonderful opportunity for students! A chance for our younger citizens to learn responsibility, experience the satisfaction that comes with helping others and to acquire new skills.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
Mark’s School of Texas, it seems like many High Schoolers look at community service as another task waiting to be done like homework or chores. In my scenario, community service is something I enjoy to do because I know I'm helping someone else through doing it. Just about every weekday, I get downstairs early and make breakfast for my sister and I. Even though this might seem only like a small act, I get satisfaction from it because I know I have made my Mom’s day a little easier. I am also involved in Boy Scouts, and whenever there is an opportunity to do community service, I do my best to get there and help out.
Community service is a voluntary, unpaid act of kindness that an individual perform to benefit and help others who are in need. It is important for individuals to do community services. It is not only about helping the community but, also making a difference in someone’s life. It can help a person grow and build connections mentally, physically, and emotionally. Mentally, a person who does community service is able to change their perspective of the world and appreciate the things they have. Physically, it can help a person be more motivated and explore what is going on in their community. Emotionally, it can help a person feel kindness therefore, it can also help an individual interact with others, build a relationship, and further their communication. Participating in community service can help a person become more active and involved in their community, it can also build your work related skills and make you gain experience to network with future employers and companies. Community Service helps an
In an article written by Linda Saslow titled High School Mandating Community Service for Graduation, she mentions the many pros to mandatory community service. Saslow mentions school districts like Roslyn and Hewlett-Woodmere (1994, para 3) that have started requiring high school students to complete a certain number of community service hours in order to graduate high school. Their goal is to give “kids the opportunity for new experiences” (Saslow, 1994, para 4). Through research conducted by the school districts, they have come to the conclusion that students who would’ve been “too shy to volunteer have admitted that they were glad they had been forced”. This is good because it’s bringing students together and really opening them up to new
Most high school students participate in at least one extracurricular activity that requires them to stay after school, or put in their own free time to do it. This being said, having to put in ten hours of community service for these kinds of students would be a challenge because they spend most of their time outside of school participating in these extracurriculars. For example, a students that plays sports will most likely have two hour practices after school and sometimes on the weekends, or they might have games 2-3 times a week making it hard to find an open space to participate in community service. This could provide many problems if students are required to take part in community
Community Service is an important activity every person should embrace as they are growing up. Doing community service, gives a person the opportunity to learn more about themself and be exposed to the lifestyles of other people, which also tends to make the volunteer more aware of the needs of the less fortunate. Volunteering also contributes to the result of more teenagers being more grateful for everything they have and thus they give more. Growing up I was taught to give more than I receive.
Students should have the freedom to choose the kind of volunteering they would like to do. Volunteering could potentially lead to students being able to find a career, or if not a career, then possibly scholarships for college (Ain). Even if it does not end in a job at the place that they are volunteering at, it gives them the experience to put on a resume for a future job that they might have. Students may not be getting paid for their time and effort towards volunteering, but in the end they are getting paid (EdLab). Service hours provides students with many different experiences, whether it be volunteering at a nursing home helping out with senior citizens, or serving food at a soup kitchen, giving to people who are less fortunate (Gazette).
Diane Loupe states that community service can also help students “gain work skills” (Loupe). This means that students aren’t just updating their resume or college application when they volunteer, they are learning about what they might want to be after college and getting experience on the subject. Therefore, high schools need to require their students to do community service so that by the time they are enrolling for college, they know what types of classes they need to take in order to do their desired career. If the students weren’t required to volunteer, they may take random classes since they don’t know what career path to
People also learn how to grow closer as a community. There are many issues and positive influences to look at when it comes to doing community service. While it is marked as MANDATORY, that does not mean that you should strictly work and not have fun. Research shows that you are more likely to enjoy mandatory service if you find something that you are good at and find somewhere where you are actually making a difference. Helping others can make a student feel
Its a very useful, promising, and beneficial experience that every teen should want to be a part of. Volunteering gives people a sense of fulfilment, and the joy of knowing that so many people need help and being able to be that person to render those services makes a better person. Community service should not be a burden for any teenager, but a special gift being given to the community by a special individual. Community service should be a mandatory high school graduation requirement because it builds ones character, limits the rate of teenage delinquency, and establishes a path for a better future as an individual.
