Four-day weeks are a blessing from Jesus, at least back when I went to my Christian private school. All jokes aside, I loved those four day weekends, as they saved the school money, allowed me to relax, and let me finish my homework. Three-day weekends cooled everything off and helped me to be ready and refreshed to go back to school. Now that I am back in public school, this nice comfort no longer exists. This is why I would love to have a four-day week again, to have everything better in general.
A considerable amount of literature has been published on the impact of working hours (8 vs. 12 hour shifts) on fatigue among the nurses. These studies revealed that twelve-hour shifts increase the risk of fatigue, reduce the level of alertness and performance, and therefore reduce the safety aspect compared to eight-hour shifts (Mitchell and Williamson, 1997; Dorrian et al., 2006; Dembe et al., 2009; Tasto et al., 1978). Mills et al. (1982) found that the risk of fatigues and performance errors are associated with the 12-hour shifts. Beside this, Jostone et al. (2002) revealed that nurses who are working for long hours are providing hasty performance with increased possibility of errors.
Getting adequate amount of sleep is the basic requirements of every individual. Proper sleep will enable us to function properly and perform our daily activities without feeling lethargic. Sleep is also considered a luxury which you can enjoy after a stressful and hectic day. If you will take proper sleep your body organs will relax and next day they will work properly to fulfil your needs. This is essential to relax your body every day because life is getting tougher with every coming day.
Driving under the influence is one of the most common and dangerous situations in which anyone can be or be placed. Drinking and driving is a serious offence that can cause someone to be physically harm or even killed. Not only are you putting yourself at risk but you are also risking the lives of passengers in the car as well as any other car and occupants sharing the road with you. Many people believe that increasing fines for drunk driving offenders will play a compelling role in cutting down the occurrences of driving under the influence. However, while harsher DUI laws will look effective on paper, they will not make a significant step in the fight against drunk driving. Although there is a law enforced for drinking and driving in the
It doesn 't seem to matter what the weather is like, what time of year it is or where I am. I have never gotten used to sleeping outside. At first it felt like camping, it was warm and the park was nice, I was young and saw it as an adventure. As time went on however the cold reality of how I was living set in. My part time job didn’t produce enough money for me to afford a place to live and college was eating away my savings. I ended up couch surfing until I started to feel like a burden and that 's when I started sleeping outside. Not long after this decision I lost my job, since no one really wants a homeless college kid working for them. After I lost my job I withdrew from college, since I had no way to pay for it. All of sudden I was a twenty-something, jobless, homeless, college dropout. Every dream I had was dead, and the only goal I had was finding a place to sleep at night and food to eat.
Insomnia Almost everyone experiences insomnia now and then. When one believes he must be in bed by a certain time every night or that he needs a certain number of hours of sleep, it may be the very thing that is preventing him from going to sleep (Munson 21). It is unfortunately true that many people still suffer from poor sleep but do not know that there are numerous programs that can help them. Insomnia, which is due to various causes and includes a vaiety of symptoms, can be reduced or eliminated in a number of ways. Stress is one of the main causes in determining insomnia. It is a fact of every day life and can be defined as any event which causes a significant emotional response. Happy occasions such as getting married, promoted, or going on a vacation can cause stress reaction, not only because because participation in the event is occurring but also in the preparation. More obvious events that occur throughout one's life are the loss of a job, a loved one, or the need for surgery. In such major life changes, the sources of the emotional response is much more easily identified (Shapiro MacFarlane Hussain 49). There are two types of stress: bad stress or negative stress which destroys your ability to operate at capacity, mentally and physically and good stress which improves your performance (Shapiro 49-50). There are different ways to reduce stress. One should try to find a job he really enjoys. It is not the stress of work that wears one out but the stress of frustration and failure. Two big causes of stress on the job are not knowing what is expected and not having adequate facts or tools. Escaping for a while is another method to help eliminate stress. One can visit a friend, go to a movie, or shop. When he returns, he can attempt to cope with the problem. However, it does not help to keep escaping, the individual should try to cope with problems as promptly as they arise (Hauri 111). Even though it is often difficult to make changes in lifestyle, the effort is worth it. Exchanging stress for a sense of control can lift a heavy weight from one's shoulders. The more control one has over his life during the day, the more likely it is that his night time sleep will become satisfying again (Hauri 113).
Ouch! She felt a tight squeeze to the left arm. With seventeen tardies, three truancy letters, fourteen missing assignments, and lack of sleep, she dolefully cupped her head in her hands and realized she can’t wake up from this nightmare with a pinch. But do not be alarmed, she is not ill nor depressed she is your average slacker. They are not uncommon; you may come across one at work, social outings or where they are most commonly seen, at school. They are known to look just like any other student with only a few slight differences. If you look closely you can notice a slight dull in the eyes or down pull of the mouth, all small details separating them from the rest of their peers. Slackers are easily spotted out by lack of work effort, empty seats in front of you, and constant procrastination of assignments. But do not worry because there are many ways to prevent yourself from becoming a slacker.
Do you ever want to go on a walk at night? Or, do you ever get a late night craving for food and take a trip to a fast food restaurant to satisfy your hunger? Well if you do, do you ever get hassled by the police? Here in Puyallup there is a strict curfew that residents of this town are not allowed to be out walking around past nine o’clock or be driving past one o’clock, like were all little children. The city of Puyallup is treating us as such. The curfew rules should be changed because we are not all law breaking, petty theft, drug addicts. Not everyone is downtown ignorantly drunk driving and citizens whom have work obligations don’t have normal work schedules.
People all over are adopting working from home. Mothers especially are appealed by the idea of taking care of their home and bring in income. From the outside, it may look as a laissez faire kind of adventure but in retrospect, it is serious work. Working from home requires self-discipline, without it the “freedom “that it offers could turn into a draining venture that does not compensate.
Hard work is challenging work. But why does it have to be challenging work? Because challenging work, when intelligently chosen, pays off. It’s the work that people of lesser character will avoid. And if you infer that I’m saying people who avoid challenging work have a character flaw, you’re right… and a serious one at that. If you avoid challenging work, you avoid doing what it takes to succeed. To keep your muscles strong or your mind sharp, you need to challenge them. To do only what’s easy will lead to physical and mental flabbiness and very mediocre results, followed by a great deal of time and effort spent justifying why such flabbiness is OK, instead of stepping up and taking on some real challenges.
Eating healthy is not easy for people because of the time. People living in the US go to work roughly 40 hours a week for a full time job. Working 40 hours a week means working five days a week and having two days of break. For example, if a person works 8 hours a day, he or she is going to be tired at the end of the day. This causes person to eat fast food or delivery food. Williams said, “Somewhere along the way, cooking went from being something that normal Americans just did, on a daily basis, to something we instead watch as a gladiator sport on television” (665). Williams also said, “We
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.
Get your body in the habit of going to sleep and getting up at the same time. Creating a sleeping schedule can help the body be used to heading to bed and waking up at the same time every day. It helps improve your sleep regulation systems and gets the body used to your sleeping habit. Also, be aware of time changes; when time goes back it gets darker faster and it may affect your sleeping habits and cause you to get less sleep, so be very aware of it. Try to get at least eight hours of sleep and wake up at a set time, so your body will start a sleeping pattern and become repetitive to sleeping and waking
Taking away someone’s right to drive to school just so it can reduce traffic and the tardiness problem is a no. Students and parents spend a good amount of money getting their car registered and able to be driven. Also, some students don’t have early morning classes but instead, afternoon classes and might need to leave school throughout the day. It is not fair to the student or parents to ban them from commuting to school.
Long working hours continue to be one of the largest health concerns in the world. Currently, the world population has become so busy due to the pressure from harsh economic conditions. People are therefore spending long working hours in the workplace, which is an aspect that has negative impact on their health conditions. Statistics from Working Condition Survey indicates that approximately 30% of workers residing in European Union believe that their health is at risk due to the hours they spent in the workplace (Gurung, 2010:16)
