In our text it describes persuasion like an art form and if you think about it that is very true. In order to get an audience to believe, think, or act in way that you want them to it takes a certain set of skills. In the case study analysis method, persuasion is a huge factor because you are trying to convince the audience to see things from your perspective. However, this can be debated in so many ways because we all have different perspectives on how we view a particular issue. This especially true when it comes to social issues like religion, marriage, and politics. All these are hot-button issues that causes people to react with strong emotions. With these types of issues it will very hard to try to convince someone to see things your
way because they have already preconceived ideas about these topics. In the video Science of persuasion it list the six short cuts of persuasion as reciprocity, scarcity, authority, consistency, liking, and consensus. Of the six I found that reciprocity is the most common form of persuasion because we practice it so often and don’t realize it. I can’t count how many times I felt obligated to do something for someone because they had done it for me first. As a leader, you must be able to persuade people to do what you need them to get the job done. With employees it is not always easy to persuade them to do something different. This could be introducing new technology or equipment and more than likely the will resist the change at first. Usually this takes some convincing and does not go over well with the first try. In my opinion, you have to persuade them that it will make help them do their job more efficiently. I believe if it makes their job easier they will want to come on board and in the process convince other to go along with it as well.
Summary – It can be very useful when things do not tend to fall your way by then switching things up on your opponent and using their most positive words in order to make it look negative. Every argument needs facts and if that does not work for you, you should probably redefine the issue being made. The importance and relevance of the argument should be taken into consideration. Remember that manipulating the definition of things in your favor is the way to go.

As we worked our way through the semester we moved from the Change Project to the Public Argument. I was able to look back at how one essay was developed into multiple essays. The type of paper I was writing determined how I was able to persuade my audience. The audience of the papers changed throughout the semester making the way I developed my paper also changed. In one essay I used the sources to persuade the readers towards agreeing with me. In the other essay I used my own words and thoughts to grab the reader’s attention and have them agree with my point of view on the issue. While one essay was a more formal audience and another was more informal the both required persuasion and attention grabbers. One audience was grasped by the use of facts while the other was grasped by talking about experiences and explaining how the topic related to the audience. While the paper was different each paper required some type of persuasion.

While the counterpoint argument contains strong evidence and good points it is not as good at persuading the reader as the point argument.
