Murphy’s Law states that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. This is why you always need a plan in life to prevent an unforeseen challenge from getting in the way of your goals. In my self-wellness plan, I will discuss how I plan on taking care of not only my personal wellness, but also my academic and social wellness. I will address the potential strategies that I can use and also the potential challenges that will arise throughout my college career. The way the next three years go will most likely determine my future, having a plan is very important to my own success. A strategy I will use to keep my academics up is making monthly planners as we did in the beginning of this course. I found that by hanging my calendar for the month up at my desk, I was able to plan ahead for tests and assignments much better than before. A large challenge that is approaching in my academic life is the LSAT, over the next three years I cannot slip up when it comes to school. I have the goal of going to law school and it is imperative to work on my study habits so that I can succeed at the LSAT and with my GPA. Having a plan for attacking such a big goal will greatly help reduce the stress surrounding it, and hopefully make my academic wellness the best it can be. The greatest challenge surrounded my success academically will be the distractions of college life. I must set aside time to have fun and reward myself but I mustn’t lose sight of the overall goal. My father always told me as a kid that if I tried hard and did well in school, the rewards later in life would far outweigh the here and now. As I reflect on my college life, I wonder about the choices I have made that have led me to where I am today and that will guide me into shaping who I long to become. The things I have had to sacrifice, the support and experiences I have had with family, friends, strangers and work colleagues. I don’t know what I will be doing three months or thirty years from now but I do know that I want to have new experiences. When I graduated from high school, I knew I didn’t want to be that person that moved back to the same town and stayed there for the rest of my life. I even contemplate leaving the United States in my adult life. Who really knows, maybe those cards are still in the deck. For now, I know my immediate goals include focusing on completing my college education the best I can, and moving away from my comfort zone, broadening my horizons and taken risks.
Being the first one to attend college in my family has pushed me to continue my education. Now in today’s society a college degree is so important. I want my parents to be proud of me, and be happy with my high level career after college, and that starts with my education. I also hope to be an influence on my younger brother and show him that a college education is important. He looks up to me, and I need to be a good role model for him. I truly just want to get the best education and job for myself worth and make myself happy.
As someone who is in charge of the wellness program here at UIW, my job is to oversee all the aspects and find out what needs amending or implementation. There are six dimensions of wellness and each one has their benefits. The purpose is to take a look at each dimension of wellness and try to make some improvements for the staff and students.
Often in practice, we as nurses deal with a variety of diseases and treatments and often have to react to the illness that the patient presents with upon our interaction. While this is an essential piece of our practice, we also have a duty to our patients to be proactive in preventing specific health-related consequences based on their risk factors and to promote their health and well being. Health promotion as it relates to nursing is about us empowering our patients to increase their control over their lives and well beings and includes: focusing on their health not just illness, empowering our patients, recognizing that health involves many dimensions and is also effected by factors outside of their control (Whitehead et al. 2008)..
Lastly, building a business case for the wellness initiative is an important part of the process. According to previously noted literature review, it makes good business sense. Employees with healthy behaviors, on average, are more productive when at work and incur lower medical costs than workers with less healthy behaviors. In writing a wellness operating plan, several business aspects should be addressed like the overall goal of the program, the specific objectives, the implementation strategies with a timeline, the communication methods to be used, and a detailed budget (Goetzel et. al., 2004).
but I have seen now that school is much more than that. Without my education, I would be doing nothing unless I saw myself working at a fast food restaurant my whole life. I don’t see my future doing that. School is my main focus right now, I have no distraction so I am sure I will accomplish all my goals that I set myself to do. I had to change the way I saw things and I’m sure I am going to be great in college as long as I push myself.
Diet, Exercise, Rest, Safety, and Health Support are five categories that can greatly shape a person. By realizing your current situation and finding a solution to any problem that arises, you will succeed in life. That is why creating a health and wellness plan is vital to your future.
What comes to mind when being asked what the most important aspect of our life is ? Could it be money, or clothes, or friends? The answer is quite easy, its our Health. Without our health we have nothing. Each and every person should evaluate their personal health and make goals accordingly. A lot of the time we think we are on track with our goals, only to realize that we are in fact not treating our health as we should. Take me for example. Before evaluating my health due to this assignment, I thought I was on the right path and making the right choices. It turns out that I needed to reevaluate.
The second dimension of wellness is emotional wellness, which has a lot to do with you ability to recognize your own thoughts and feelings and deal with them in a healthy way. There are a lot of ways to do this, such as: understanding and sharing your thoughts and feelings with yourself and those around you, and being confident in your self and the decisions you make. Some well known people who I believe have attained emotional wellness include Ellen DeGeneres and Doctor Phil.
Compassion fatigue is defined as “The emotional residue or strains of exposure to working with those suffering from the consequences of traumatic events” (The American Institute of Stress, n.d.). Compassion fatigue occurs when healthcare workers, especially those who work with patients one-on-one daily, feel the emotional stress of their jobs starting to wear on them. For example, a person who works with a cancer patient and watches that patient worsen and finally pass away, may experience great emotional pain. Dealing with stressful situations over time could also cause compassion fatigue. One way to prevent compassion fatigue is through implementation of Schwartz rounds. “Schwartz rounds are not 'problem solving'. Instead, the focus is on the emotional experiences of staff caring for patients and they allow staff to explore, in an environment that is safe and confidential, situations that confront them.” (Thompson, A. College is going to start my own life on a foot that is ready to leap because my career is going to take off right out of the gate. All-in-all I’m going to college for three main reasons. My immediate family is a reason because I want them to be proud of me for doing something right for once. My future family is also one because it’s a big part of my life that I want to be happy and always feel comfortable. Finally for my personal financial well-being, so I can be able to treat myself to all the luxuries I want for myself. Going back to line one, all of these things are a part of my future. Isn’t that what college is for after all, to prepare people for their own futures and what they bring? A university is not my future, it’s only the beginning of it.
When I was 8 year old I scored 100 out of 100 marks in Mathematics and when my class teacher announced the results whole class stood and clapped, I can never forget that overwhelming moment in my life, I was so happy and contended, and that day I understood the importance of education in life. My parents couldn’t study after high school due to financial restrictions but they always taught me importance of higher education to imagine and pursue goals. My family has been extremely supportive throughout the journey and has constantly motivated me to realize my potential to the fullest extent by providing conducive environment for studying and encouraging me in my endeavors. Throughout my high school, I enjoyed two things: Mathematics and Extra-curricular activities, these activities helped me to gain team skills, stress management skills and social relationship skills.
