Ever since I was in middle school I dreamed of working in the medical field. I realized nursing was the profession for me when my grandfather became terribly sick with lung cancer during my freshman year of high school. It has always been a goal of mine to continue my education beyond my bachelors of science in nursing to earn a higher degree as a nurse practitioner. Mental health has become a growing issue in today’s society which devotes healthcare professionals to educate the population on the severity of mental illnesses. As I attended school and worked with families in low poverty communities, I realized day after day that mental illness has been the cause of disorganization from one family to the next. Through my clinical experiences, I know from the bottom of my heart that specializing in psychiatric nursing will allow me to provide the educational opportunities in underserved populations. Earning this degree will allow me to apply advanced clinical judgment to evaluate, diagnose, manage, and appraise holistic plans of care. All in all, I truly believe that mental health will always be an ongoing societal challenge amongst individuals and families. As I work towards this degree, I plan to implement continuous evidenced based practice and therapeutic care to increase mental health awareness.
When I have progressed, I hope to go into nurse practitioning or nursing administration to better the quality of nursing jobs and patient care. Nursing degrees can be a completely diverse education that can be taken in many different directions. From several different kinds of nursing fields such as pediatrics, critical care, emergency room, ICU, neurology and several others to nursing administration such as a QA Coordinator, hospital administrator or quality management director. There are several different fields to appeal to all different types of interests. The difficult part is figuring which one to choose and of course training and learning how to take these lives into their hands. I love children so pediatric nursing is the way I personally would like to go. Although this will come with it’s own sense of challenges like tiny veins, having to cause some pain in order to make them feel better and since the field focuses on children, I may have to deal with the death of a child. Though the personal satisfaction of helping to save a life and make a true difference far outweighs the different challenges I may face along the
I was raised in a very small town south of Fresno, called Reedley. As an able-bodied citizen, I considered my social class upbringing to be middle class because I always had the necessary resources, and many more while growing up. My Mother became widowed and a single mother with two children, when I was only nine years old. She always played the role of mother and father as me and my younger brother were growing up. She taught me how to be strong and independent women. School was never easy growing up; I was always distracted in class. When I went into the forth grade one of my teachers wanted to hold me back, and I new that was not something I, or my family wanted. Since then I made it my goal to try harder in school and
What is my personal purpose? Is a question that I have never thought to ask myself until recently. Then when I started learning more about a personal purpose I started wondering if I have one and what it was. I never thought of myself has having a real purpose until a watched an interview Will Smith had did and he had said “When your life means something to someone other than yourself than you have a purpose.” That is when I realized that I have a purpose. My purpose is that I am the hug that let others know it is going to be ok. My personal goals is to be genuinely happy with myself and life and to make my parents proud, my career goal is to own my own business and being successful at doing so, finally, my educational goal is to get my bachelors degree and grauate with honors and even moving on to getting my masters. Having goals is important to me because I know that while I am in the process of accomplishing them I will have something great to look forward to in the end.

For them, me, and students out there trying to accomplish their goals in a world full of obstacles. Nursing has been my career goal for the longest time because it is a career I see myself fully invested in due to my father’s cancer. Today he is in remission and living a healthy life with us inspiring me to begin a new chapter in my life. Both he and my mom are very proud of where I am at in my live and I want to continue making them proud.
I have always wanted to become a nurse since I was a little girl, seeing both of my grandmothers working in a hospitals and always helping everyone in need.
