I will be going into college as an open major because that is how I applied in order to keep my options open. However, I am heavily leaning towards pediatric nursing. I have always loved working with children and from a young age I set out to help people however I was able. I planned to help people somehow as a career and pediatric nursing would be the perfect way to do that. Not only could I work with children who are impressionable and will soon be our future, but I would be able to make a real difference by helping them when they are feeling sick and at their worst. Every single day that nurses put on their scrubs and go to work, they take lives into their hands. They face life and death decisions on a regular basis and when in the face of death they have to go to their next patient in order to give them the best care possible with a smile on their face. They handle a variety of things, some awful that they would never have had to handle if they decided to become an accountant. For instance, the death of a patient, abusive parents or spouses, cancer touching people that have their whole lives ahead of them, and inhumanity knocking at their doorstep at every turn. Though they didn’t become nurses to play it safe. Nurses didn’t decide to become that for the safety, high job demand, good income, and good health insurance plan although that may have factored in to a small percentage of it. Nurses decided to get into one of the most difficult jobs where they will likely have to face inhumanity, bodily fluids, difficult patients, people in the hardest times of their lives, and death because they care. They want to make a difference and they most certainly will. They genuinely care about people and they want to save lives. Nurses save
