There are so many medical careers; it’s really hard to determine what specialty is going to be the greatest fit for different people. Personally, I love working with kids, so I’ve always been interested in pediatrics. Even though I know I want to work I pediatrics, there are still many opportunities out there. I’ve reduced my choices to either a pediatrician or a pediatric nurse. These two occupations have many similarities but just as many differences. The schooling required, credentials, and responsibilities are very different. I also have to look at which path will be best for me as I get older. How much schooling do I want to go through, and how much do I want to be working? Those variables are extremely important to look at as I try to decide what career I want to pursue. I know that I want to have a career in the medical field, so to prepare for that I have taken many high school science classes, including biology, chemistry 1 and 2, and physics. I’ve also taken many math classes, English 101 and 102 though Grand Rapids Community College and heath classes through Grand Valley State University. These classes have helped prepare me for a medical degree by exposing me to math, science, and college level classes; all of which are particularly important when it comes to trying to receive a medical degree. I am going to Cedarville University in the fall, and they have pre-med and nursing programs. To become a pediatrician I would need to get a bachelor’s degree in pre-med with an emphasis on either biology or chemistry. Anyone who wants to get a pre-med degree at Cedarville can, but the classes are rigorous, and generally many students decide to switch to a different major after a semester or two. Who would have the expertise to care for your child? From birth to age 18 Pediatricians have what it takes to ensure your child goes from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly. The career of a pediatrician is determination. You must be determined to make your patient feel better no matter what. It is said that children is a joy to work with, and hopefully being a pediatricians is as much fun as it seems. Pediatricians can be identified individuals who specialize in giving medical care to children and adolescents between infancy to adulthood at eighteen years of age. I became inspired to become a pediatrician due to my immense love of children. Perhaps I have an innate intuition for taking care of people being that I have always felt that I excel at taking care of others. The idea of taking care of others truly makes me feel that I serve a purpose, not only to better the life of myself but the life of others. Computer courses are useful as technology is changing the way medicine is shared by physicians today. To head a career as a physician, a student needs to first enroll in a liberal arts program in undergraduate institution. Some colleges offer a premed major, but a general education with as many science and math course as possible and a major in biology or chemistry is good preparation for the study of medicine also. During sophomore or junior year in college, students should talk with an adviser about taking the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). College students should apply to medical schools at the beginning of their senior year, so it is recommended to begin medical school research as early as freshman
The undergraduate degree that I am going to go for is Biomedical Engineering so that I have a well-paying job as a backup if I fail to get into medical school. For this class you have to take your basic science and math courses, as well as your basics that you must take for any degree such as English Composition 1 and 2. Out of all of my classes, Anatomy and Physiology gave me more opportunities outside of the classroom. There were some classes that were a bit tough, but the work did not require intense reading, memorization, and dedication. As a child, if you had ever felt sick, your mom probably took you to see a pediatrician. Pediatricians are doctors who work to diagnose, treat, and manage a child's illness. Pediatricians work with both the child, and the parents of the child, informing them of the illness they are dealing with. They spend their days talking to the patients, their parents, and many others from different medical fields. This career interests me because of my desire to help and work with children.
