My gift from America is education because if I did not have the privilege to go to school, I would not be same the person I am today. So many kids around the world do not have the privilege to be educated, so they do not know very much. When I took a trip to the Bahamas, a lot of the things there were damaged because of a hurricane, therefore there was not very much transportation. The kids that did go to school often walked and wore uniforms. In the Grand Bahamas, there were a lot of little boutiques where women and men made things to sell and earn money. As my family got dropped off for the beach, the women and men pleaded you to buy their items so they could earn money. They mostly made clothing, but there were other little souvenirs. My
Growing up in a developing country has really open up my mind about setting up for a better future. My home in El Salvador wasn't the most lavishness, but it's also not the worst. I grew up in a house with two levels; three bedrooms on the top floor, one on the bottom, a garage and laundry room at the lower level, and a small sale shop at the front of the house. Growing up in this home has been a meaningful place for me. Its where I found my sense of place.
Families with limited financial resources had to sell their personal goods or labor to feed and clothe themselves. In poor families, the housewives had to cook meals, make clothing, and clean in addition to making household goods to use and sell. Middle class and upper class women shared in most of these chores in their households, but often had servants to help.
I remember the first time I came to America; I was 10 years old. Everything was exciting! From getting into an airplane, to viewing magnificent, huge buildings from a bird’s eye view in the plane. It was truly memorable. After staying few days at my mother’s house, my father and I wanted to see what Dallas looks like. But because my mother was working the whole day, it wasn’t convenient for her to show us the area except only on Sundays. Finally, we went out to the nearby mall with my mother. My father and I were astonished after looking at a variety of stores. But after looking at different stores, we were finally tired and hungry, so we went into McDonald’s. Not being familiar with fast food restaurants, we were curious to try American
America. It was a dream come true in a New World that was envisioned by artists, politicians, and monarchs alike. The ones who believed that anything could be achieved by God, the mind, and manpower. Even through opposition from governments, kingdoms, nobles, and naysayers, these brave individuals strived to establish a better life for themselves and their families, aimed to retain a secure future in the process, and wanted to worship God in their own way.
In the United States, we often times take many things for granted. One out of many the examples are our resources. We have so many things available to us that we occasionally do not even think about how, or where we got them. Like food, The United States has some of the richest soil in the world, so as a result, we are able to grow a lot of our food. Right along with water, we have fairly easy accesses to water, which allows us to grow high yield crops.
Many people have asked the question, and many others have been asked, ‘What is the greatest country in the world?’ Or, if you live in America, ‘Why is America the greatest country in the world?’ Many people answer this by saying things such as freedom, our education, diversity, etc., while others may say the people who live here, namely, Americans. Yet few are able to sufficiently answer the next question, ‘What makes a person an American?’ Many will say that living here makes you an American. Yet they seem to forget about the thousands, if not millions, of illegal immigrants that are living in our country. Are they Americans just because they are living in our country? Our federal government does not agree, which is why we have several laws concerning the deportation of illegal immigrants. Others, who see past the simple idea of living here as a means of being an American, may say that your characteristics help to define you as an American. Yet the most agreeable answer would be a combination of the two. An American would be someone who lives in America legally, and also holds within themselves various characteristics, which among these include an over-abundance of confidence,
One thing that people often overlook when writing an essay is not what the college can do for you, but what you can do for the college. With that in mind the attributes that I possess would make a great addition to and benefit the college greatly. My ability to speak in front of large crowds, lead, and my thirst for knowledge have sshasfdafy
My father was a shoemaker, and my mother was a housewife. Back in Italy, women used to stay home with the kids, rather than finding a job, or whatever. We had a small garden in our house with some vegetables, and she spent their days there, with the plants. Most houses had a patch where they cultivated some plants to eat (sic).
Another semester has come and gone and I am a few steps closer to the goal I set for myself back in the spring of 2012. A degree! In a few scant months I will be at the halfway point earning my Associate of Arts degree and a couple years from now, hopefully, I will be stepping onto the stage up in Flagstaff and accepting my Bachelor’s degree.
Being part of this study abroad was an experience unlike any other. That is to say, I experienced parts of my own culture that I had by no means witnessed before and I returned to the United States with a superior knowledge of my cultural roots. Similarly, as an educator after a week of teaching in Las Clavellinas I’ve gained an immense amount of understanding that would have taken me years to acquire in a traditional classroom setting in the United States. Consequently, this study abroad has confidently equipped me as an educator as I commence my teaching residency and for the real-world once I graduate and begin teaching.
Everyone has dream in life. Some people have a dream to visit different places and some people want to become successful in future. Likewise I also had a dream to come USA and to become successful in future. I was 17 when I came here with my parents. I heard a lot from my friends about their first day in USA. They said it was so sad however mine was the best day and the long day in my life which I can’t ever forget. I still remember that day in USA; I was sleeping in the airplane because I was so tired of traveling 18 hours flight. I was in a deep sleep suddenly I heard someone was calling my name because of that I wake up. It was my mom who was calling me. She told me to look outside I rub my eyes and looked outside. I still remember that moment when I first looked California, USA through plane window, those tall building which I saw in movies looks like a plane ground. I was so excited to be here in USA I feel like it is a piece of heaven.
Firstly Ingvar Kamprad (owner of the company) was selling everything from pens and wallets to watches and nylon stockings by going door to door and
It was about two years ago when I arrived in United States of America, and I still remember the day when I left my native country, Honduras. As I recall, one day previous to my departure, I visited my relatives who live in San Pedro Sula. They were all very happy for me to see me except my grandmother Isabel. She looked sad; even though she tried to smile at all times when I was talking to her, I knew that deep inside of her, her heart was broken because of my departure the next morning. I remember that I even told her, “Grandma, do not worry about me, I’ll be fine. I promise that I will write you letters and send you pictures as much as possible.” Here reply was, “I know sweetie I know you will.” Suddenly after she said that I started to cry. For som...
When I eventually have kids i will allow them to visit where it all began. My children will be allowed to go to barbados dress up and parade around the island as I once did as a child. This experience is great for the interaction in order to get to know one's culture along with the meaning behind it.
America to me meant lots of chocolate, my Mother’s kisses and hugs. It meant I’d get a whole new wardrobe of clothes. It meant going out to eat every night. It meant all the loving and caring roles a mother plays in a child’s life.
