At first, it wasn’t too hard, as the work load was rather miniscule for all of my classes. Around midterms the amount of schoolwork exceeded the amount of time I had available and has stayed there since. There are 168 hours in any given week, 50 of which I am working, and 17 hours are class time. That leaves me with 101 hours. Around 56 hours are used to sleep as I attempt to get around 8 hours of sleep a night. Down to 45 hours to drive places, eat, and socialize I realized I need to manage my time better. The biggest obstacle that challenged my success in college was spreading myself too
thin.

Also, many professionals successfully graduated college while dealing with hardships such as “raising children alone, working in multiple jobs, and caring for sick relatives” (Culpepper 330). They showed commitment by staying focused on what they wanted to achieve in their lives. An overloaded student accomplishes his/her tasks by organizing his/her daily schedule, not allowing more than one activity developing in the same hour. Also, the student has to allow for himself/herself recreational time as a reward, for that will balance his/her overwhelmed lifestyle.
Since beginning Penn Foster, it has been a challenge to balance out all my reasonability’s as an adult. From working 40 hours a week at my local Walmart, to volunteering a few hours of each day at my local SPCA. My life is full of chaos. I rarely get any “me” time and when I do I am trying to finish up my assignments. Working at Walmart is not really stressful, granted we are a very high volume store but all I really do is stock shelves, and assist customers when needed. I don’t dread going to class or doing my homework, the material is so interesting. I love my decision to pursue nursing and the overwhelming support I have I could not be more thankful, but I have learned I am not as organized as I once thought I was. I have a hard time with managing my time between school, studying, my family and friends. The stress I feel every time I go into a classroom to take a test, which is usually two or three time a week sometimes four, can be overwhelming, some days I feel like my heart is beating out of my chest with the worst anxiety I have ever felt.
My transition to college was successful, but it was nonetheless one of the most stressful times in my life. Unlike many of my peers at Saint Louis University, my rural high school experience did not truly prepare me for the academic rigors of college. Despite extensive preparation, I performed rather poorly on the first round of exams. While I didn’t fail any particular exam, my performance was seriously lacking. Schedules are a difficult thing to balance. A person must find the time to complete a number of tasks in a day. A normal adult may have time to get everything done and still have time to spare.
