Sleep Deprivation in College Students Sleep deprivation is a very common issue that more and more people are affected by everyday. Sleep deprivation is the condition of not being able to get the appropriate amount of sleep each night. College students find themselves not getting enough sleep because they are busy with school, children, and are often stressed out from the overload of work. It is very easy to take sleep for granted, most busy people see sleep as a waste of time especially when they have many deadlines weighing above their head. Many people do not realize how not getting enough sleep can really affect their health. Majorities of college student have to work, have children, and also need to have a personal life. When students have to work it does not leave a whole lot of time between classes to do homework. Finding a schedule that goes perfect with school and work is almost impossible. Often time’s students will get up early to go to their classes. They will then leave straight after their class to go to work, and finally make it home that night to do their homework. Staying up all night to get homework turned in on time can often result in missing or being late to classes the next day. Some college students have children and having to take care of a child is a lot of responsibility that does not always allow parents to get an appropriate amount of sleep. Parents have to spend time with their children and have to help them with their homework as well. This can also result in missing classes or not being able to meet assigned deadlines. Although sleep is important, everyone needs to be able to go out and spend time with family and friends. Not being able to get away from life’s daily struggles every now and then can result in feelings such as being stressed out, depressed, or feeling
