My career goals that I am preparing at this stage of my life is to obtain my B.S.N. (Bachelor of science degree in nursing) and to be more efficient in learning and teaching new technology that arise in the workplace. This will allow me to be better prepared for this new age of technology and to precept new nurses and other nurses who may think that technology is not for them. This degree will help me to be better prepared to meet modern health care increasing needs, and responsibilities. Keeping up to date with the latest practices and qualifications is essential in enhancing my career. To be successful, embracing technology and motivating employees is key. Practice is needed every day with these new tools. Commitment is another factor that is essential to learning. Committing a certain amount of time every day to this work is needed in order to be successful. Staying current helps in keeping up with technology and trend. Familiarizing myself with these new tools have become an integral part of my work. New technologies, expectations, policies and even physical work spaces all play a new way of doing business. These devices and tools enable people to work where and when they want and how they feel most comfortable and productive (wired.com). This adaptive approach to changing work environment is called “work redesigned.” It means a more inclusive, creative and collaborative workplace with greater flexibility and mobility. Companies that embrace these approaches, reported improved employee’s satisfaction and happier employees
Technology will continue to improve therefore each organization has the opportunity to advance and take advantage of the new techniques and methods that are being used by successful organization that has proven themselves by continuing to provide excellent services for the community and each employee. Now when you see an organization that didn 't make it you ask yourself the question were they ready did they do all that could have been done to save the business, did they hire the correct people, was training offered to all employees, The factors that were stated will make and break an organization if these steps aren 't followed it could lead to failure in the organization.
During my undergraduate years in college I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to become when I “grew up”. I would study various professions and never felt like anything fit for me. One evening I sat down with my aunt, a nurse, and I was talking to her about how I couldn’t decide on a major and how frustrating it was to be in college feeling as if I did not have any direction. She looked at me with complete surprise on her face and said, “You aren’t applying for nursing school?” I stared at her for a moment because I was confused as to why she would ask me that. She chuckled and proceeded to tell me that she had always assumed that I would be a nurse because I spent several years of my life taking care of my 3 year old cousin who had cancer. For three years I was his caregiver and it had never occurred to me that I could make a living caring for people. I then spent countless hours researching nursing and what exactly nurses did. This was it! I had finally found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life! It took no time at all to know that I wanted to specialize in pediatrics. Throughout my clinical experiences in nursing school I have immensely enjoyed working on the Pediatric units as well as the Nursery. I am now absolutely certain that I am meant to be a pediatric nurse. Cook Children’s is recognized as a Magnet-designated hospital and is one of the best children’s hospitals in the US. Being a Cook Children’s nurse resident would allow me to fulfill my passion and dream of pediatric nursing. Working with new graduate nurses has instilled in me the goal to share my knowledge and expertise with others and to teach others the art of nursing. My short-term goals are to complete the Master’s program by the summer of 2014. My second goal is to secure a job as a nurse educator at a hospital and work with my nurse manager to provide program like in-service to the hospital staff and students. I would like to incorporate my education from State University’s master’s program to assist hospital staff and patients in their learning process, with the use of new technology to facilitate the learning and understanding.
The adage of the adage. In conclusion, technology in the workplace is a very good tool. This can save time, improve profits, and improve communication. Like any tool, it is useless unless one is skilled in the use of it. A truly progressive company would train a current employee to be proficient in its use instead of eliminating them.
The goal of this literature review is to increase our knowledge about technology use in practice and to identify where there is need for improvement. Information technology seems to be a widely discussed topic these days and most nurses have no clear idea how it can transform the way we do things on an every day basis. We will also look at the impact technology has on nursing, patients, and colleagues. We will then focus on a specific nursing setting, in this case the emergency room. This literature review is organized to grow on each independent section so that you, the reader, can form your own opinion, but take with you the universal understanding of how information technology will lead us down a new and exciting career path.
As technology continues to advance, distance learning will continue to become more like traditional classroom training. More people are looking for alternative means for continuing education. Continuing education in organizations is becoming the rule, not the exception. In all areas, internally and externally organizations are embracing technology to get in touch with their workers and the world. Pursuing nursing is my passion as it is my ambition to be there to help and serve others which I know will bring value to my own life as well. Whether that is in a position of health promotion and teaching kids about stress relief at a health fair like I was able to this last fall. Several years ago in 2008 the RWJF and the IOM collaborated for two years to discern the future needs of the nursing profession. Most importantly, the objective was to outline the critical actions needed to ensure nursing was ready to seamlessly move towards the future. This was no easy task as nurses work in such diverse settings such as outpatient areas, acute care settings, the community, and long term settings to name a few. Couple this with the fact that nurses have a variety of educational avenues such as the associates, diploma, or bachelor’s degree open to them to achieve the status of registered nurse (Institute of Medicine, 2010). All of this considered, the committee did design four key messages regarding the future of nursing as key in the transformation of health care as evidenced in their "Future of Nursing" report.
While technological innovations can provide increased opportunities for organizations and give them a competitive advantage, not all employees respond well to changes in their everyday workflow. When an organization updates its systems, it can face some resistance from employees, especially when the employees do not feel properly trained and lack the confidence in using the new system.
