Career Goals: Pursuing nursing is my passion as it is my ambition to be there to help and serve others which I know will bring value to my own life as well. Whether that is in a position of health promotion and teaching kids about stress relief at a health fair like I was able to this last fall. Or, being there when they are in a health crisis I want to get to know my clients so I can best serve them by truly taking the time to get to know their individual needs. Enjoying such a wide variety of opportunities has not shown me a particular area of nursing but has drawn me to a love of nursing in general as each person has a story and walk in life. My goal is to continue to learn from the opportunities I am presented and learn from those with the experience to help me improve my level of care. Leadership to me is learning to build on past experience and helping others use their unique talents to bring people together for a common purpose. Learning, living, and then leading I want to be someone to bring others together to make a true lasting impact. Growing up I enjoyed doing service projects in my community and through college I have found a love for short term service trips including Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Belize, and twice to different areas of Michigan, one of which I was a co-leader in helping to plan. Service trips and service work is something I love and I want to continue to help and build on what I have already accomplished in serving my community. It is my desire to be a lifelong learner to help me serve people and my community to the best of my ability. As a new nurse I do not want to learn or possible start my career with a hospital unless I know we have the same vision and values. I was excited to see one of the first things was Methodist was the number 1 hospital in Texas for patient-centered care and the nursing motto is, “Performs at 100 percent, respected at 200 percent”. This really stood out to me that this is a hospital cares about their patients and the individuals that work there to perform their best to give top quality care. I am excited about this program because these are the kind of values I can stand by and people who also believe in this are the people I desire to learn from. I am caring, honest, and open to communication, loving and I love to teach and that is why I should be chosen for the nursing residency program. I want to learn what the program has to offer. Yet, this an exciting career and it will allow me to continue to learn this profession. I am excited about the different training, courses that are available for new nurses to partake in and I am looking forward to that, I am also open to the support of experienced nurses that allow themselves to work with new nurses. After finishing up term one of my nursing career, I can officially say I feel nursing is most definitely the profession I have been searching for. I have had an amazing experiences and practice by going to clinical which helped me improve upon my nursing skills and EOP SLO. It can be seen, being prepared, maintain professionalism and safe practice, having exceptional communication, respecting culture, adapting care across the lifespan, promoting health education, and having an admirable nursing process were all valued and demonstrated by me.

A career in the medical field is always evolving, and always needing more hands. I knew from a young age that helping people is what I was meant to do, and from then on out every step I took was the way to a successful career in nursing. It is a profession that allows you to see people at their worst, all while helping them become their best. The most important task for nursing students is to create a clear pathway for our education, and to be sure to follow that plan accordingly. Being a professional nurse opens your world up to meeting many different people, all from different cultures and backgrounds. Every day people you would never have met, if not for this career will enter your professional life, and I will get to do my part and make a difference in their lives. Bringing me to my second reason; I don’t think there is anything greater than being able to change and better the lives of the people around me.
