Our current president wants to bring American jobs back to the states rather than shipping those jobs overseas, hopefully creating more jobs for Americans. No one really knows how tax cuts and regulation will affect the middle and lower classes. But many fear that those struggling may not make it. There has been a lot of talk about increasing jobs by bringing companies back to the US rather than shipping them overseas, this would create a window of opportunity for a job in the business world. If taxes rise, that could have a negative impact on several …show more content…
I always offer my services when it comes to gaining any experience. Younger generations are becoming more and more tech savvy. With that said, I can benefit by keeping up on my learning and continuing to focus on learning more about technology and technological advances. Reflection: Looking over my PEST analysis I notice that more and how important a degree is in being able to achieve my goal. Knowing what challenges that are currently existing and what challenges may come up while attending school to earn my degree. It did open my eyes to look at and think about the political, economic, socio-cultural, or technological impact that was associated with my degree choice. This is something that I had never thought about or considered although looking at it now makes sense this is very important to have this knowledge. Very high population rates do not correspond with working labor force, in that (Polaski 2004) the Mexican labor force grew from 32.3 million immediately before NAFTA to 40.2 million in 2002, meaning that Mexico needed almost a million jobs a year simply to absorb the growth in labor supply. Many theorists suggest that a free trade zone will increase employment, by the increase demand for labor therefore creating a vast rapid workforce. However, NAFTA has greatly impacted manufacturing employment, by producing a low small net gain in hobs in Mexico, in that jobs created in export manufacturing have barely kept pace with jobs lost in agriculture due to imports (Polaski 2004). There has been a visible weakening in domestic manufacturing employment, related in part to increase import competition. In addition, the cause of a decline in domestic manufacturing employment is caused due to the relocation of the maquiladora factory workforce, which the United States has relocated the maquiladora assembly plants to China and Indonesia, because of low wage, cheaper labor workforce, skilled workforce, and less environmental protection laws. The maquiladora assembly plants in the late 20th century have disappeared
The Presidents’ role is popularly defined by their sweeping economic policies leading America to become a superpower. Ronald Reagan the 40th President was one of America’s most famous modern Republican Presidents and is credited with providing the base to the modern Republican Party ideals. One of the most famous triumphs for Reagan was his supply-side economics policies or commonly known as Reaganomics (Cato.org, 2013). Reaganomics was the policy of reducing taxes in order to spur growth, which would come from the trickled down profits from corporations to the common people. The application of Reaganomics was able to grow the economy by 3.2 percent rather than a 2.8 percent growth in the Ford-Carter era, it was also able to grow the Family median income by 4,000 dollars while it lost 1,500 in post-Reagan era (Cato.org, 2013). One fatal flaw of Reaganomics was it did not account for people not being able to save their money and as a result on average savings decreased ...
Additionally, he continues the union circuit, ingratiating himself with the hard-core Marxist unions of the country that are responsible for much of the financial woes from which our country suffers. His pandering and bailouts of big Labor at the expense of job creating business is nothing more than an endowment to his base using taxpayer’s money. The only overtures to business are to the ones he can control or nationalize.
Froma Harrop’s essay New Threat to Skilled U.S. Workers is a detailed and factual essay about the mystery of job-outsourcing. She also mentioned the long-term effects of the issue on our economy. Harrop’s audience for her essay leans towards skilled U.S. workers who are unaware that many jobs are moving overseas, but includes young college students as well. At the beginning of the essay Harrop immediately starts with an account from Alan Blinder, a Princeton economist. She describes his great displeasure after hearing how enthusiastic U.S. executives were while discussing job-outsourcing. Another pertinent piece of information included in Blinder’s account was his prediction that a great amount of jobs would be lost in the near future. “We speak of computer programing, book-keeping, graphic design and other careers once thought firmly planted in American soil” (Harrop 130) Harrop’s use of other sources helps give more credibility to the essay; however, it can decrease the complexity. American prosperity was built on the backs of middle class families with one or both parents working in the manufacturing and living their American dream. When companies moved big portion of their manufacturing to China these workers had to be displaced to different jobs that were created as a result of the higher profits companies earned and invested back in the economy. The new jobs often needed training, but were better paid, and at the same time consumers enjoyed the price cuts in the products they were buying. Economists call it win-win situation where more jobs are created in the U.S., the economy benefits from the companies’ higher profits and people from developing countries have a chance for better life. However the lives of the families of the workers that lost their jobs to offshoring have changed irreversibly. U.S. companies more than d...
