This class has provided some of the most extensive teamwork experience ever in my educational career. We were given an opportunity to hand picked our teammates after getting to know them and lock in a contract. This class allowed everyone to be put in a situation where we were forced to solve any conflicts occurred. Like every other group, our group has its own problems. Most of us are busy with work, and other activities; the group neglected the assignments till the last minute and then rush to work on it. The first group assignment, our group got a pass and received a good grade. However, the same habits reflected in our quality of our work on the second assignment with a low grade. Everyone was disappointed with the result, but the group …show more content…
Ever since my employment with Target Corporation as a cashier, I wanted to make a difference to the lives of many minimum wage workers that depend on it. My question is what difference will I make to these people’s lives, not will I make a difference in their lives. If I were ever to become a manager for any large corporation, I want the employees to feel and understand my beliefs and values as their manager. I want to be the one that accommodate their problems and setbacks at work. I believe that these people are just as equally important in our everyday lives. They provide services to satisfy our needs. These minimum wage workers do the jobs that many would not do. Therefore, during my tenure at Target, I felt that most managers focused on meeting quotas and how to make the store more profitable to get promoted. I wanted to be a manager that is selfless and not selfish. After all, my goal is to make a difference in at least a single employee’s …show more content…
I am now more encouraged to strive and achieve my goals. I am more motivated to become a great manager that can make a difference in people’s lives. I have learned different skills and techniques on how to approach and how to not approach. The self-assessments gave me an idea of what are being asked of a great manager. The MBTI test is a galvanizing factor that acts as a role model for my future career. It gave me helpful tips that I can picture myself doing and gave me warnings for the potential pitfalls that I might be facing down the road. The extensive teamwork and constructive feedback experience contributed to an unforgettable experience, a small taste of what types of conflicts a manager would have to deal with. A team consists of 5 students is already hard to manage, I cannot fathom managing 10 or 100 people. The Personal Leadership Philosophy is an essential reminder not only for others but also myself. It reminds everyone to stay on track to achieve the common beliefs and values. I believe that the PLP will represent me as a leader and it will give others a reason to follow and be a part of. Overall, everything that I have learned and absorbed since day 1 of this class has been engraved into my heart and brain. These are the life lessons that will definitely be useful when I run into obstacles in real life. I can always sit back and think about how this class has helped me and how
It is one thing to have the knowledge of “the practice of mobilizing people to tackle tough challenges and thrive”. What I am persistent to do with that knowledge is what is important. My biggest take away is that I need to get on the balcony. By being on the balcony I can see that is it really the bold guy with the dance moves who starts the party, not the DJ. Silly to me that I never realized that is where I needed to be, that is where people could find me in a real life party. A year from now I hope that is still where I will be, looking for new data and learning more about myself in new circumstances. There will always be more to learn, although every once in a while I will have to intervene in situations that will make me uncomfortable. To carry on improving on the skills I picked up during the course of this class, it will be crucial for me to reevaluate the goals I set for myself. I plan to reset them all and provide myself with a timeline to achieve the goals. KU offers a minor in leadership studies and this classes is the foundation for all of those leadership classes to come. This class will be impossible to forget as I move forward in complete my minor. I will be using what I have learned in this class still three years from, it is kind of
Conclusion Ultimately I did a much better job of implementing course material into my approach to leading the project team. Though no formal leadership role was established, I ended up becoming the “point-man.” Instead of viewing this reality as a burden (as I have been) I should make the most of the opportunity to better myself and potentially others. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, I need to make sure that I am meeting and exceeding the demands that the group places on itself and demonstrate that I am motivated.
A leadership theory is a clarification of some features of leadership; theories have practical importance as they are being used for better understanding, anticipating, and controlling successful leadership. Hence, the main principle of any theory is to inform practice(Lussier and Achua 2009). Leadership theories could be classified into eight main categories: Great man, trait, behavioral, contingency, Situational, Participative, Relationship , management (Cherry 2010).
The role of leadership has become increasing valuable for organizations to be successful. According to Huber (2014), Leadership can best be defined as method utilized to ensure that an objective is completed. There are many different types of leaderships that can be found within each organization. In this paper I will highlight an example of a specific leadership style that we come across in healthcare settings. I will review my leadership self-assessment results and discuss the impact of leadership on staff and groups.
The assignment for week four is to assess and review results from the Authentic Leadership Self Assessment Questionnaire. The ALQ was created to provide a means to assess the parameters of authentic leadership and to allow for opinion on the behaviors that encompass Authentic Leadership Style (Northouse, 2013). Basically, the questionnaire and the model allows and individual to understand how followers or people perceive leadership authenticity.
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
Leadership is not defined by position. Leadership is an extraordinary responsibility given only to those willing to exude selflessness, decisiveness, and wisdom. CSM William R. Hambrick, Jr is an accomplished leader that embodies the values, attributes, and competencies that I aspire to convey to my subordinates. The impact that CSM Hambrick has had on my career and leadership philosophy is immeasurable. His far-reaching legacy is one of confidence, sound judgment, and empathy.
The worst team experience here was in my physics class. We had about a month to put together a small project, and roughly a week in I started trying to send messages to the other members of the team. They never replied. Emails were ignored, elms messages never got a response, and we had a groupme where the only 7 messages were mine. A week before the project was due I went to the professor, and was told to keep trying. That most students wait a long time before starting. They never responded, two nights before it was due I completed it without telling anyone. The day we were supposed to present the topic I was outside the class two hours early rehearsing, memorizing, and calming my nerves.
Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
According to Bryant (2016), “self-leadership is the process by which you influence yourself to achieve your objectives.” So how do you achieve this, you start with developing your leadership point of view. Developing my leadership point of view forced me to reflect on the leader models in my life. It also forced me to evaluate the key events and experiences from my past and determine how they have impacted me as a leader. This self-reflection process allowed me to discover who I am, what my values and beliefs are and what my true purpose is in life. Thus far, this process has made me more self-aware and self-awareness is key to self-motivation and motivating others.
Taking this class this semester has really changed the way that I have viewed myself when it has come to work and the different companies that I have worked before. I have taken a psychology class before but I have never taken one that relates to management and organizations. This class has really helped me answer different questions such as why I was unhappy at some jobs, enjoyed some managers over others, and what motivated me to work hard at jobs. It’s good to learn that there are different terms and definitions for different feeling and things I experienced at jobs to know that their other people experiencing these things also. I will be going into a management position after I graduate, and this class helped me to learn many different ways to go about managing and things to avoid to keep a positive working environment.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill, regarding the ability of an individual or organization to "lead" or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations. Leadersip can not definied by just one word but by action. I have seen development within myself through my volunteer service. Leadership is both a research area and a practical opportunity to share the ability gained as a individual, also through my organizations to lead or guide other individual team members who have a common goal. Volunteering in the church organizations matches my need to be of service to others. While volunteer at Fallbrook church I in return have been served I have been guided, nurtured, and challenge through the process. I have been
After a brief meeting with our group and a discussion with our teacher, we were finally able to get on the same page. Overall, while the experience was a little rough at first, it was an extremely educational one. The importance of teamwork really shined through with this assignment, and the process from beginning to end gave me a better understanding of the amount of effort every team member contributes to a
Many people associate leadership with a specific job title or form of power within an organization. However, through personal experience, I have concluded that leadership can come in many forms and position as well as from multiple sources of roles and job titles both with and without power. Based on the definition of leadership, anyone can be considered a leader as long as they have the ability to influence people to achieve a particular result or goal which benefits the organization or group as a whole. Individuals with a secure sense of self and understanding, acceptance of diversity within an organization tend to be the strongest leaders that not only make others want to follow, but they also encourage other leaders to gravitate to their
