Reading this article seem to make me think deeper on what do I really want out of an internship. In the past, I had the initiative to only find paid internships that will benefit my bank account. My research for paid internships began two months ago, to find a sports medicine or exercise science type internship starting in January of 2018. The article discusses two points that I believe will help me as I finish my degree and search for an internship. Those two points are the relationship of field experience and experiential learning and what takes place in a field experience. Ultimately, I agree with the position of the writers and I believe that the material is very relevant to pursuing a career in sports. The author established the argument,
In this internship, I learned about many different diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, vertigo, multiple sclerosis, ALS, knee replacements,
There is never enough of anything in the life of a college student. there is never enough time to study, or enough food, or enough money, or enough time to sleep. But, if that student becomes a college athlete then all of the “or’s” change to “and’s”. Even though there are many struggles of a college athlete they are not going away. As the youth of America watches their older counterparts excel in many college sports, a dream to become an athlete at the collegiate level is sparked. This dream is fueled through high school sports and then disseminated by high school counselors. Counselors who are quick to remind that sports do not bring home a paycheck. Neverless, this dream of college sports thrives and is present in the mind of every high
My goal after graduating UGA is to attend a large Division 1 school and participate in a graduate assistantship while earning my masters degree in athletic training. My long term goal is to work with the US Olympic team as an athletic trainer. I feel that I am deserving of this scholarship because like Lori Mobley Groover, I am also passionate about the profession and the impact athletic trainers make on and off the field and I believe I can contribute many valuable skills to the growing field of athletic training. These skills include paying close attention to detail, working well under pressure, and good communication skills. I believe these qualities are vital to be a successful athletic trainer and my ability to focus and notice the small things, remain calm during stressful situations, and interact and share information effectively with different types of people will help me to excel as a leader and an athletic trainer and allow me to better serve those around
Internships play an important role in the career development and recruitment process of young professionals and soon-to-be college graduates. Internships come in two forms: paid and unpaid. Paid internships are most commonly procured in the private sector or in organizations that have financial stability to pay students to gain experience and learn while they work. Unpaid internships are becoming increasingly common in the current workplace where some businesses are cutting costs and downsizing due to economic struggles. The following paper will show the negative effects of unpaid internships and how unpaid internships challenge ethical business practices.
I was privileged enough to get the opportunity to be a tax intern with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Atlanta, GA this spring. The beginning of my internship experience was a little different from the others because I was able to go to the National Championship in Arizona with an organization on campus. I was quite hesitant to ask for the time off because I was just an intern and I wanted to make the best impression possible. I emailed the manager that I interviewed with and after a week, he was able to get back to me with the firm’s policy. If an employee’s alma mater makes it to the national championship they are eligible for two days off. I am not sure if I would have asked if the manager had not been an alumni from the University of Alabama.
During my undergraduate studies, I spent time exploring the field of exercise science. I endured laborious coursework that molded my character into a strong-willed, disciplined student. As I deepened my knowledge of the human body, my passion for working in health care evolved to new heights. I also grew a fondness for learning new material and concepts. By the end of my undergraduate experience, I knew how to maximize my personal success.
All business schools should have an internship program. The benefits that the internship program can give to its students are outstanding. Students that participate in internships not only benefit themselves but they can also help out other business students by bringing back valuable knowledge and sharing it with them. (Swift and Kent 1) Students also get a good taste of the high pace business world, internships can help weed out the week business students and strengthen the strong. But usually both the student and the business and the business school benefit from the internship. According to Swift and Kent researchers have reported that students who participate in formal internships find their jobs sooner and receive more job offers than do students who do not participate in internships. This being true perspective students in the business field might start looking into schools to see how their internship programs are and might star...
The panel was comprised of people employed in all different sectors of Sports Business. They said that this career path is a particularly challenging one because it requires extensive hours, travel, and takes time to move up. Jobs in the sports industry are not all glamour, they are hard work. Now that being said, if it is something that students are passionate about it is an amazing experience, well worth the time, and initial lower starting salary. Each panelist described their path to where they got and stressed the importance of networking. They concluded this panel by emphasizing the importance of the informational
Before the internship, I thought judges were of course humans, but I was hoping they were nice. I thought it was going to be a bit intimidating, but I knew I looked up and aspired their profession. It was like the day I was going to meet my judge I was so nervous, yet I looked forward to it. I remember I was surprised different Judges would run their courtrooms differently. I thought they would kind of have a similar system for things, which they sort of do, but not completely. Generally speaking, the Judges are great individuals and are very unique. Most of the Judges have lived pretty interesting lives and seem to enjoy their jobs. The Judges seem to be very knowledgeable, and very considerate of the Jury, court reporters, and their clerks. The judges of course seem neutral when in front of the jury as expected. For example, Judge Lippitt, does not allow anytime to speak over each other in her court room she is always saying that they have to be respectful there is a human being recording this, referring to the court reporter. Then, she is very considerate of the Jury and their time, she will tell them the trial is longer at times to make them happy if it ends early. Further, Judge Lippitt really cares about the jury instructions and that they are as neutral as possible. Something I have learned from Judge Lippitt, is that you have to be very careful as a judge to notice when attorney’s are acting a little suspicious. Another very significant lesson I have learned from Judge Lippitt is that preparedness and awareness is really important.
In the summer of 2015, Clare Varellas, a sophomore at Northwestern University, interned for a small publication. She worked three days a week without any compensation—and said she would do it again. “It’s about the experience rather than the money,” Varellas said. “You get something to build off of. Eventually, you’ll get paid.”
What are the benefits and advantages of internships? Internships help you gain exposure to real issues not found in textbooks, it also helps to increase your skills that are readily marketable from doing an internship. Interning can provide you with personal growth experiences and exposure to different job opportunities. Internships give you the opportunity to evaluate potential employers nearly risk free, which is a plus. I did an internship for a year at my church. The first thing I had to do was find the facility I was going to do the internship with. The next thing was to engage a suitable mentor for the work I was going to do as an intern. After talking to two perspective mentors one was chosen. Your mentor has to be dedicated to your success, and your spiritual growth. He or she must not be afraid of telling you the truth, and make sure you can follow instructions. An internship helps you to clarify your goals, gain experience by applying your knowledge and skills in work related situations.
An internship is a formal program to provide practical experience for beginners in an occupation or profession. By this point in my internship I am more than half way through it and taking on more and more responsibilities and positions as I go along.
The quarter has finally come to an end, and with that, I close out my internship and this class that went along with it. It was a great experience and I leave equipped with a new set of skills that are preparing me for the world ahead. As I write this reflection paper, I think back to the very first week when I set up two goals for myself to focus on and hope to achieve throughout the following weeks. My first goal was to develop a better understanding of myself within the work place, and my second was to develop a strong network to jumpstart my career. Both of my goals were achieved, however, I don’t feel that either of my goals will ever be complete. I believe that you can always formulate a better understanding of yourself, and you can always network to develop a stronger tree of connections. I know for a fact, however, that I reached satisfaction with both of my goals at this internship at MKI and know whole-heartedly that I did everything in my power to exhaust my resources in
This is a matter of pleasure for me to acknowledge my deep sense of gratitude to University Sains of Malaysia for giving me an opportunity to explore my abilities via this internship programme. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my academic supervisor, Dr. Amirul Shah for their valuable guidance and advice in completing this internship.
