Business internships are helping students gain real world experience while they are not actually out in the real world yet. Internships are becoming more and more popular with college students in today’s world. An internship is basically when a student in college goes to a company or business and works while they are still enrolled in school and still getting academic credit. The main purpose of the internship is for the student to gain valuable on the job work experience. But there are also other things that a student can get from internships. Internships help the student decide whether or not this line of work is correct for them. Since the student works in an occupation in which they are highly interested in it really helps them get a bigger picture of the outside world.
All business schools should have an internship program. The benefits that the internship program can give to its students are outstanding. Students that participate in internships not only benefit themselves but they can also help out other business students by bringing back valuable knowledge and sharing it with them. (Swift and Kent 1) Students also get a good taste of the high pace business world, internships can help weed out the week business students and strengthen the strong. But usually both the student and the business and the business school benefit from the internship. According to Swift and Kent researchers have reported that students who participate in formal internships find their jobs sooner and receive more job offers than do students who do not participate in internships. This being true perspective students in the business field might start looking into schools to see how their internship programs are and might star...

...f study as an extended learning opportunity. These hands on learning experiences are either paid; meaning compensation is given, or unpaid; meaning the intern is working for free. What Kamenetz leaves out in her article is that some careers require an internship. Careers in the medical field, such as nurses and doctors, usually have to complete an internship to get their license to practice medicine. Even psychologists have to serve a certain amount of time as an intern. Would a doctor be trustworthy is he or she never had any supervised hands on practice? Even if a certain career path didn’t require an internship, it could possibly help someone receive a job and become a better an employee in the long run.
I gained a mass amount of knowledge about business and marketing from this internship, but I do believe that there are some adjustments St. Mary’s can make to the marketing program to help students be more prepared
This summer I was offered an internship for Merrill Lynch in my hometown of Towson, Maryland. For eight weeks, I worked five days a week for an average of thirty hours. There are numerous Merrill Lynch offices in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. area. Offices in Annapolis and Baltimore are greater in numbers and advisors. The Towson region only has about fifteen advisors and four client assistants. However, almost all of those advisors started their careers in Baltimore. The Towson office was for more established advisors who already have a distinguished client list. Because the office was much smaller, I was the only intern for the summer, which proved to have both its ups and downs. On one hand, being the only intern gave me more responsibility. I had the privilege to meet with all the advisors, giving me new perspectives on how the job is done. However, on the contrary, it also meant that I did not have a defined job description. For instance, each advisor would have different tasks for me to perform. Nonetheless, this experience proved to be beneficial.
Internships are becoming the norm in today’s ever changing society. Both paid and unpaid internships allow the intern to learn about a particular field or industry, gain experience in that particular field or industry, and build a network that can be leverage for future good. These benefits combined prove to be very useful and significant to the intern because it’s a differentiator from those individuals who did not have an internship. Given the very competitive job market for recent college graduates, the many benefits of internships have caused many interns to pass up pay in return for the aforementioned benefits. Internships have become so standard in the workplace that the National Association of Colleges and Employers recently reported that 75 percent of employers prefer job candidates with relevant work experience, while more than 90 percent prefer to hire interns who have worked for their organization (Bacon, 2011). When it comes to hiring full-time employees, 42% of graduates with internships who applied for a job received an job offer compared to...
Most of undergraduate or high school student graduate lacked is experience. Experience in the field or life experience is both require having a successful career. To become a competitive candidate employee, student should take time to gain experience. There is no better way to do it but taking a gap year. Gap year offers a sufficient time for student to earn both experiences that needed. Gaining experience from the real life setting is a break from traditional education. According to gooversea.com, many people who enter college straight from high school regret their choices with the first two years. Also, students have a choice to where their want to gain experience. It could be through humanitarian volunteer or shadowing doctor in a medical camp in Peru. All thighs are possible through gap year. Moreover, students can earn experience and money at the same time. The wages save up from working is put toward future endeavors such as education. By doing internship related to career path, students gain valuable experience and a chance to network with expert in the industry. Which, it is likely to benefit their career in the future. Additional to gain experience is meeting new people. It is impossible not to make a new friend through out the year. Entering college right away may surround student with the same folk. However, gap year allows student to discovered other and interact with people from all over the
In her article, "Should Internships Be a Mandatory Part of the College Curriculum? The Answer is Yes", Ms. Landry states that she believes that every college and university should have at least one internship as a mandatory part of its curriculum. She deems that internships are very helpful both to students and to entrepreneurs, stating that internships are exactly what gets “companies to come here, grow here, invest here and stay here”. Students, on the other hand, receive practical knowledge in their chosen field and set up the contacts they will need for the future. She also cites Susan Brennan, the Managing Director of Bentley University’s Career Services, who suggests students take internships early and often, because they are
I have learned many things from participating in my internship. Before my junior year at college, I was shy and had insecurities about my abilities to work in the accounting industry. My internship experience can be divided into three sections. First, is the practice and experience that I have obtained which helped me towards my careers goals. Secondly, is the exposure to the basic structural organization of companies. Finally, is the opportunity to participate in solving real-world problems.
The internship is provided to us for experiencing the practical site works and to implement our knowledge gained through the course curriculum on site.
My internship at 6abc has been a dream come true. For me brushing elbows with a famous journalist like Jim Gardner means more than meeting a famous movie star. The atmosphere in the building is something indescribable and it changes every day, every hour to be precise. When news changes, the atmosphere changes. I have honestly dreamed of working at 6abc since I first realized I wanted to be a broadcaster. Their sense of family on television really grabbed me and I always knew that this was the place I wanted to work. Well I got here, but for only three short months, and it breaks my heart to know that I have to leave. There have been some ups and downs during my experience in the Creative Services department, but I gained a better understanding
My involvement in the Business Students Association, volunteer jobs, and internship gave me a lot of experience and skills, which are relevant to my intended major. In the Association, we used to discuss business leadership and management and how headship and managerial skills can be developed, nurtured, and enhanced in an individual. The internship I had at the bank also helped me acquire and develop more effective business skills. My membership at the Aloha Gamma Sigma helped me shape my business skills and develop good working relations with my colleagues at school and at work.
This summer internship position allowed me to apply my education and gain beneficial field experience by closely working with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Crime Scene division. As an intern, I was assigned to shadow Christine Cain in order to learn about her daily duties as a crime scene technician and the standards she is expected to uphold. My core responsibilities included arriving promptly to assigned shifts, assisting CSI Cain process crime scenes, and returning to the office to gain a better understanding of how to properly package different types of evidence. While processing scenes I carried equipment, helped with the collection of evidence, and often recorded notes about the scenes attended. I feel that I learned quickly

My small-groups internship is helping me to improve my leadership abilities and giving me opportunities to become comfortable with both small groups and large groups of people and with public speaking. Although there is much I can still improve on, and I realize that I still have a lot of skills still to develop, I am seeing that all my training is equipping me for work in my desired
Student’s training program (internships, work placements, on-the-job training and work-based learning) was one of the main concerns discussed by the academic interviewees. The importance of training program was recognised, by the academic participants, as it has a huge impact on the development of work-related skills and knowledge among students. An academic said ‘practicing the reality of work is the best practice for students to learn and to gain the skills needed in the labour market’.

Through all the experiences gained from this internship, it has provided skills such as multitasking in a fast paced office setting, keen organizational skills, and improvement on communicating in a professional workplace as well as the ability to handle situations as they arise.
