It is a pleasure to write this letter of reference for BAM’s Brooklyn Interns for Arts and Culture (BIAC) program. I was a BIAC intern during my senior of high school, from October 2013 to August 2014, during which I worked in the DanceMotion USA. In addition, I worked with my staff mentor Jenny Rodriguez, who worked in the Human Resources Department. I found it extremely helpful to have the supprort from these three different levels of contact. With these varying levels of support, I always felt
As I sit down to write this, I ask myself the question “Why do I want to stay at the Wesley Foundation?” What more could I learn from being a 2nd year intern? And I can’t honestly answer that question without first reflecting back on my time here. Thinking back to some of my first times walking through the doors of the Wesley Foundation, I don’t recognize my former self. As a quiet and painfully timid student leaving home for the first time, I wasn’t aware of the road I was about to travel. He didn’t
I Was a Washington D.C. Intern On June 9, 2003, my life took an interesting turn. It was a sunny day. Blue skies, humidity insanely high, and I found myself at 4th Street and Constitution in Washington, D.C. I stood before an angled architectural masterpiece by famed architect I.M. Pei; its pointed corners jutted out towards the grassy Mall and Capitol Hill as if it were some sort of Picasso-esque compass pointing simultaneously towards all the tourist hot spots. (The one corner, purportedly the
have worked at Deloitte & Touche, LLP as an Audit Intern. Overall the internship was an important learning experience and invaluable in my professional development. I was able to gain real work experience in audit and network with numerous people at varied stages in their careers. There were many Deloitte-sponsored intern events in addition to the regular daily work I performed on my three engagements. At the beginning of the internship, each intern was required to compile a list of goals they hoped
successful tools, but recent debate has shown that many believe interns should receive compensation. Internships provide very important and unique opportunities that can pave the way for their success. But should not be paid for their efforts because they are already being “paid” in many other significant ways, compensation should not be the end goal, and they are inexperienced students. There are countless advantages to being an intern for companies and businesses. Raven Rush, a reporter for the
In order to survive in the world, people need to be able to earn money from the work they put in. Should interns be paid for the work they put in with these companies? Often internships are taken for a few months at a time and depending on how many hours students put in at their internships, they may not have time to earn extra income on the side while working
unpaid internship, as I am sure that there are bad employers for interns as well as good ones. However, in principle, internship follow a different set of rules than regular employment, and a successful internship usually has nothing to do with whether or not you are being paid. So what are the objectors saying and how should we assess internships? Some people suppose that unpaid internship is illegal. They cannot accept that interns work for free. Actually, unpaid internships aren't inherently unlawful
In “Unpaid Interns, Complicit Colleges,” published in the Wall Street Journal on April 2, 2011, Ross Perlin discusses how college interns are being pointed towards these college jobs even though they're being scammed. Perlin talks about how colleges are for interns being unpaid, while students should get course credit instead. Some colleges that Perlin explained even were reaching out to the Labor Departments in hopes that the Labor Department would disregard the issues with unpaid internships. Perlin
Business internships are helping students gain real world experience while they are not actually out in the real world yet. Internships are becoming more and more popular with college students in today’s world. An internship is basically when a student in college goes to a company or business and works while they are still enrolled in school and still getting academic credit. The main purpose of the internship is for the student to gain valuable on the job work experience. But there are also other
Life bears challenges and trials we need to overcome. In many instances, it is the journey through these moments of crisis, not the crisis itself that develops our character. “The Pursuit of Happyness” uses music, camera positioning, and camera angles to present to the viewers the moods, and tones which help demonstrating Chris Gardner’s perseverance, commitment, and determination. Perseverance can be described as the continual effort to do or achieve something through difficulties, failure or
university and finding ways in how to bridge those gaps. Making sure that the student is ready for the labor market involvement is the duty of the university. The university also can see if the company can provide future opportunity for exceptional interns who did well during their program as a way of
Everyone is familiar with what they think is an intern. In past decades hiring a Junior or Senior college student for a summer of work for some big company for no pay was what you aspired for, a right of initiation into the corporate world and a step up in your fledgling career. In general, that’s how a lot of internships have worked. The company got free labor for a few months and the intern got some experience, a nice line for their resume and hopefully a leg up over other applicants for highly
Every intern that works with the Preservation Committee works Monday through Friday. The office is open from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm, however the intern decides what time they start. The starting time must be between 7:00 am and 9:00 am so that individuals are present for 7.5 hours and 1 hour for lunch. You may arrive early or late and leave accordingly as long as you fulfill your hours. I arrive at 8:00 am and leave at 4:30. This time was decided before I started my internship. Noel Strattan

Interning in a field of choice will stand out on a students resume and help them with their job search after graduation. Participating interns gain on-the-job training that integrates education, career development and public service, while agencies hosting interns benefit from the contributions of creativeand innovative
focused and acted in a professional manner. At the same time of this occurrence there were other things that went on pertaining to transference and counter transference. The Intern and I definitely had some type of strong transference and counter transference going on. There was a clash of personalities between the intern and me. We totally did not get along. I felt uneasy and that she did not want me there in the room with her. Why? I thought that maybe she felt challenged. I don’t know, but I

to pay its unpaid interns minimum wage (Bacon, 2011). The test for unpaid interns section in particular has caused some intense debate over the issue of unpaid interns. These include that the internship is for the benefit of intern rather than the employer, the intern is not necessarily entitled to a job at the conclusion of the internship, and “the employer and the intern understand that the intern is not entitled to
In today’s competitive world, possessing a practical work background is of utmost importance while entering in the job market. This in itself expresses how essential is the role of internship, volunteering and professional certification in an individual’s career life. In other words, internship, volunteering and professional certification works as an investment and help an individual in expanding his horizons for future employment. In fact, undertaking internships and volunteering opportunities provide
Ever: Japan’s Labor Pains.” It brings to light the many situations these, “interns,” are placed in when they come to Japan to learn skilled labor. Yet most of the interns are placed in unskilled labor jobs such as oyster shucking where the video begins. The only japanese native in this job that was displayed was an 80 year old woman, the rest were young chinese men. As the video progresses, there is a pattern to all the interns and where they are from, most are from China. Akaha explains this a bit
to attend the internship, because it is located on campus in the Annette Strauss Institute floor of the CMA building. Commuting could be a concern for many students, and with an internship on campus it will help to alleviate that problem for most interns. I also think it would be beneficial to work on this project in the future, because it offers students the chance to participate in a large research project. This could be useful for people interested in getting a masters, PhD, law degree, and there
