Before the internship, I thought judges were of course humans, but I was hoping they were nice. I thought it was going to be a bit intimidating, but I knew I looked up and aspired their profession. It was like the day I was going to meet my judge I was so nervous, yet I looked forward to it. I remember I was surprised different Judges would run their courtrooms differently. I thought they would kind of have a similar system for things, which they sort of do, but not completely. Generally speaking, the Judges are great individuals and are very unique. Most of the Judges have lived pretty interesting lives and seem to enjoy their jobs. The Judges seem to be very knowledgeable, and very considerate of the Jury, court reporters, and their clerks. The judges of course seem neutral when in front of the jury as expected. For example, Judge Lippitt, does not allow anytime to speak over each other in her court room she is always saying that they have to be respectful there is a human being recording this, referring to the court reporter. Then, she is very considerate of the Jury and their time, she will tell them the trial is longer at times to make them happy if it ends early. Further, Judge Lippitt really cares about the jury instructions and that they are as neutral as possible. Something I have learned from Judge Lippitt, is that you have to be very careful as a judge to notice when attorney’s are acting a little suspicious. Another very significant lesson I have learned from Judge Lippitt is that preparedness and awareness is really important. A few differences I have seen in the Judges and how they run their courtroom is that in Judges Samuel’s and Dohi’s courtroom they do their jury selection without having them fill out paper wor... ... middle of paper ... ...rings judges tend handle it the same, and they try to do it very quickly especially when they have a trial. I think the fastest at handling arraignments, that I have had a chance to witness is Judge Jesic, but I think Judge Ewell is pretty fast as well. When Judge Lippitt has a bench trial she tries to keep it neutral, and of course because the parties have counsel she is not very involved with the plaintiff or the defendant. I think the only time I have seen Judge Lippitt interact with a plaintiff is when she was doing a prove up or calming down a plaintiff trustee because they were being very disrespectful to the court. I think that most of the Judges are considerate of the court reporter, but Judge Lippitt cares the most and I know that court reporters like her for that. I usually don’t see other Judges telling counsels to slow down because of the court reporter.
When trying to describe Dan Locallo as a compassionate judge one could use the Tony Cameron, the Larry Bates and the Frank Caruso Jr. criminal cases. Tony Cameron has been in jail for only five months. He was arrested for armed robbery in August of 1997. Cameron has an inner conflict that he keeps fighting-whether or not he wants to plead guilty or not guilty (Courtroom 302, 26). Tony Cameron realizes that if he wants to present his case to the judge he better make it a good one. Most offenders that visit the courthouse feel like...
The judges that are a part of this group has many different roles, some of which are to issues warrants, making a determination of probable cause in evidence, denying or granting bail to offenders, overseeing trials, making rulings on different motions and even overseeing hearings. The prosecuting attorney is the one who will represent that state in c...
For my court ethnography I observed plea, bail, and family court in the city of Milton. However, it was called the Ontario superior court of justice. When I first entered a court it looked exactly like what I had seen in movies. The court setup, the vernacular used, and the customs of the court employees were exactly like what mainstream media has displayed to the public over the years. Entering the court, symbols of justice were exhibited everywhere in the courtroom. In the courtroom all kinds of cases were occurring, and people from all types of backgrounds were involved. Observing the inner workings of our justice system gave me invaluable insight on how law and order is preserved in our society. Furthermore, I also got to witness the specific
Complete separation of a judge from extrajudicial activities is neither possible nor wise; a judge should not become isolated from the community in which the judge lives. Disqualification should not be used as a strategic move, it is there to guarantee the right of the defendant or prosecutor. If a judge is subject to disqualification, a polite suggestion is appropriate without a formal motion or hearing to maintain an appropriate relationship between the attorney and judge in this sort of profession. While practicing law, a judge should maintain those relationships and social interactions however both should stay mindful of the standards and principles described above that would have any impact or influence on the outcome of a case. Disqualification is a vital safeguard to the preservation of judicial neutrality.
For the past three and a half weeks I have had many new experiences, moving to Washington D.C. and starting as an intern for the law firm Carmen and Muss P.L.L.C. Throughout this time I have learned quite a bit about the daily tasks of an attorney and what living and working in Washington D.C. is like. My first week I was unsure of what to expect, having never had an experience like this before now. However I quickly learned the main projects I would be focusing on and was able to relate the things I have learned in the classroom at my home school to my internship experience. There is still a lot that I have yet to discover, however, these last few weeks have been rather substantive and I have learned a lot about working in a law firm.
This mock trial script provided very detailed information on how a court functions and the duties of the participants. For instance, the role of a judge is to give the rules to the jury on how they should debate on whether the accused is presumed innocent or guilty. The judge also represents the law since s/he is the one who enforces it in a court trial. Another thing that the mock trial script offers is how both the crown and defence counsel functions. The crown counsel represents the government and is responsible for conducting legal proceedings against the accused. The defence counsel however, defends the accused from the crown counsel by proving to the court that the accused is innocent. Lastly, the mock trial also showed how the jury is
Some people say that by watching the court system in action, what once was very unknown and unfamiliar, has now become familiar and useful in helping people become more knowledgeable of what happens inside courtrooms. Most people have not been in a courtrooms and only have the perspective that T.V. gives to them. Now they are able to see what really goes on and now can better understand and relate.
I was giving the opportunity of witnessing a few preliminary hearings and gained insight of lawyers in full force. Some hearings were very serious while others were surprising to watch. I was also giving the chance by Mr. Shelton, who is the administrator, to shadow an attorney. That was probably the best day I had at General Sessions Court because he took me to criminal court; I was able to watch the introduction of the case. Criminal court is more intense than the other courts I visited. The atmosphere in criminal criminal court is exactly what I needed to experience in my internship; criminal court assured me that I can commit tot the challenging job of an attorney and be successful. In addition to obtaining experience, I also obtained course credit because of my participation in the internship
In this essay, I will explain how I experienced a courtroom visit and the important issues learnt from the visit. In the courtroom, the judge was presiding over the court, and because the matters were on criminal cases there were jurors. This jury received instructions from the judge about the law, as they were nonprofessional. A jury consists of twelve persons when it comes to serious felonies and six members when it is only a misdemeanor. The reason why the judge gave them the facts on the law was to help them deliberate after the case was over to establish whether the accused person was guilty or not.
The business used for my internship this semester was Hyatt Place in Rogers, Arkansas. This location was once an AmeriSuites that was renovated into a Hyatt Place. The Rogers Hyatt Place is owned by McKibbon Hotel Management. McKibbon also owns seventy five other hotels in ten other states in the Southeastern United States. Hyatt Place has one hundred and three rooms in either king or two doubles. All of the rooms are suites and are separated into a couch area, and a bed area. Each room also holds a refrigerator, desk and flat screen t.v with HD channels. Hyatt Place has four main departments within the hotel. These departments include management, front desk, housekeeping and maintenance. The management team includes a General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Sales Director and an Operational Manager.

The quarter has finally come to an end, and with that, I close out my internship and this class that went along with it. It was a great experience and I leave equipped with a new set of skills that are preparing me for the world ahead. As I write this reflection paper, I think back to the very first week when I set up two goals for myself to focus on and hope to achieve throughout the following weeks. My first goal was to develop a better understanding of myself within the work place, and my second was to develop a strong network to jumpstart my career. Both of my goals were achieved, however, I don’t feel that either of my goals will ever be complete. I believe that you can always formulate a better understanding of yourself, and you can always network to develop a stronger tree of connections. I know for a fact, however, that I reached satisfaction with both of my goals at this internship at MKI and know whole-heartedly that I did everything in my power to exhaust my resources in
Throughout my internship, I was well trained and did receive a fruitful experience. The real working environment prepared me for future employment after my graduation. However, I did encounter some problems, which I gradually managed to deal with. Whatever happens, productivity increases by keeping a positive attitude.
During the course of time, I’ve learned many useful things that have led me to be the person I want to be today. From college classes to work experiences, I now have the ability to exceed upon internship experiences that can shape my perspective on life. The purpose of this paper is to summarize, reflect, analyze, and synthesize on my internship experience at the Children’s Home of Reading-Acute Partial Hospitalization Program.
