When dealing with Anxiety, many believe that is just a panic attack or “butterflies” that make you nervous. They do not comprehend that it is an abundant more than that. Amanda Seyfried once stated about her anxiety, “It's sad, actually, because my anxiety keeps me from enjoying things as much as I should at this age” (Seyfried 1). Her anxiety held her back from doing the things that she enjoyed. Her anxiety caused her sadness. Her anxiety caused her to separate her from others her age. Anxiety can cause an individual to attract Depression as well.
Anxiety is overcoming obstacles, it does go away if one is repetitively doing it. Anxiety can lead to depression, but they are not the same thing. James Collier once said, “I developed a ruled for myself : Do what makes you happy, don’t do what makes you depressed.” Collier got an invite to go to Argentina, he really wanted to go but his anxiety got the best of him. His ideas for the future were very myopic. Collier turned down the trip and wasn’t happy about it. Collier was nervous because he had never been that far from New England. Not to mention, Collier also got homesick the first week he was away for college so being homesick also set him back. Don’t go into depression because anxiety isn’t letting you do the things you want to do, just push through it. Later on in life Collier got another offer to go on a trip for work, he took the offer because he was going to do what made him happy, not depressed. I also get anxiety when I have job interviews. Talking to a manager, trying to say all of the right things makes me nervous and loquacious. For instance, going on dates makes one have butterflies, which is a sign of having anxiety, eventually, over time those butterflies go away. Continuing to do the same thing over and over again will make ones anxiety almost
Anxiety is common mental illness in the US, which Kim Krisberg talks about in her article “Anxiety: A Normal Response That Can Feel Overwhelming. The cause of anxiety is brought up in Peter Crostas’ article “What Causes Anxiety?” Crosta also explains the treatments for anxiety in his article, “What Are Treatments For Anxiety?”
There are several types of anxiety disorders. Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) involves excessive worrying, nervousness and tension. With this disorder, there is a constant feeling of dread that shapes your entire life. This type of anxiety doesn’t have the intensity of a panic attack, however lasts longer and makes daily life and relaxing impossible. People with GAD worry that a friendship is in jeopardy if a missed phone call to a friend isn’t returned to them. The thought of getting through the day can cause anxiety. GAD makes people worry excessively and the worrying is constant. These people feel as though their mind is on a nonstop running marathon and there is nothing they can do about it. To help treat GAD there are several self-help tips to follow. One can look at their worries in a new way and understand that worries are triggered and the blame cannot be put on anyone else. Another helpful tip is to relax. “As you strengthen your ability to relax, your nervous system will become less reactive and you’ll be less vulnerable to anxiety and stress. Over time, the relaxation response will come easier and easier, until it feels natural,” (Smith, Segal, and Segal). Meditation, ...
Anxiety can be distressing for the body because of how the body reacts. Anxiety can sometimes be helpful for the body, “Normal anxiety is part of the body’s natural defense system. It's an alert to a threat that is unknown, vague, or comes from your own internal fears. While you are in this state, your feelings can range from a vague sense of worry to physical sensations such as a pounding heartbeat” (Fairview). The body can actually become stronger and overcome anxiety which is what Fairview is trying to state. conversely, the body can become very ill because of anxiety. Someone who experiences anxiety can have dizziness, sickness, racing heartbeat, sleeplessness, and very strong emotions. Some teenagers can even become hospitalized from anxiety and the stress that they have to go through. Students conversely have it harder than others, “A teenager named Jake took three AP classes and his teachers did not understand the amount of work he had on his plate with a job, extracurricular activities and the other classes that he had. Jake’s biggest fear was failure and he kept failing, he became very sick and was hospitalized for four days” (The New York Times). Jake was so overwhelmed with his classes, jobs, and extracurricular activities that the expectations of his parents and his teachers affected his physical and mental health. Other people can experience anxiety, but not even know they are experiencing it. The body can also go through dry throat, tense muscles, and sweaty palms. Others that have experienced anxiety for a while can cause other worse health issues such as digestion problems, weakened immune systems, problems falling asleep, and cardiovascular troubles (Denizet-Lewis). The body can tell a person how much they are suffering anxiety by the side effects that they experience when anxiety is
Do you know what it feels like to have your palms sweat, throat close up, and your fingers tremble? This is the everyday life of someone who lives with anxiety. As soon as I wake up in the morning, I hear my brain freaking out about the day ahead of me. What do I eat for breakfast? What do I do first when I get home from school? What happens if I get in a car crash on my way to school? A million thoughts at one time racing through my head. I never have the time to process all of them. Most mornings, I lay in my bed and have to take a few deep breaths to begin my hectic but not so hectic day. That’s just the beginning. It’s safe to say that I feel that I 'm an anxious person and that I have an anxiety disorder.
Anxiety is the biggest problem in my life. Even though I spend a lot of time worried and stressed for no reason at all. It makes me seem as if I am going crazy because others notice that I have a problem, and it feels as if I am having a heart attack.
...h me and I must say it is my favorite because I soon feel at peace when I take 3 deep breathes in and out. Taking medication is my worst enemy I hate taking medication but if it were to by the last and final resort to help solve the issue I would go ahead and take it of course I have to watch out for the dose so I won’t become dependent on the drug. Out of all the three Drugs, Systematic Desensitization, and BioFeedback I would choose Systematic Desensitization to be the best natural way to help condition anxiety. If there is a case where a person can no longer take their anxiety issue I would highly recommend the person to go to a doctor to get a prescription to help reduce their issue however, it is important to understand the dosage that is recommended to take because it is likely if we take over the recommended dosage we might come dependent on it which is worse.
Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. Every person experiences some form of anxiety in his or her lifetime. Anxiety helps us deal with tense situations like using our flight or fight reaction, study harder for an exam, or keep focus on important deadlines. Anxiety can be useful until it gets to the point of interfering with everyday life. Some people explain it as not being able to shut the anxiety off. When anxiety becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, it becomes a disabling disorder (National Institute of Mental Health, 2009). Each year, anxiety disorders affect about 40 million American adults age 18 years and older (National Institute of Mental Health, 2009). There are five major Anxiety Disorders they include Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Phobias.

Facing your fears is not an option if you are scared of the fear itself. Having support from someone could prevent a panic attack and help tremendously because it is always comforting to know you are not alone. The most effective way to help someone with an anxiety disorder is first understanding the differences between feeling nervous and owning anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders can easily evolve into depression and can make a person feel trapped or even suicidal. I used to have a lot of trouble with Anxiety and Depression, these troubles caused me to feel handicapped through life and felt like many things I did were just too hard to deal with, even the most simple of things. In the past year I learned that you cannot let Anxiety and Depression control your life. These things can only control your life, if you allow them to control your life; and after being on anxiety and depression medication for years, I am finally coming off of the anxiety medication.
Some of which have unpleasant side effects, including, but not limited to drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, and nightmares.
