Everyone has obstacles to overcome. For example, getting through school, getting a good job, injuries, and family struggles. Anxiety is what set James Collier back from being happy. Phil Hansen injured his hand and that set him back from doing the art he wanted to do. Overcoming obstacles is possible if one works hard, and sets small goals for the future. When Hansen injured his hand he quit at school and became unhappy, he later decided to go back to school and look at art in a different perspective. Collier wanted to travel to Argentina but he had bad anxiety and that’s what set him back from having a blast and traveling. Hansen could of gave up his dream of art but he decided that was is passion and he was going to continue to do it. Art …show more content…
is what Hansen lived for. Having an injury may set you back, but don’t let it hold you back from what you want to do. When Phil Hansen’s hand developed the shake, he wasn’t able to draw straight lines and perfect dots. Hansen went at art in another direction. Instead of drawing his dot art he decided to get creative. When Hansen realized he couldn’t draw the art he wanted he quit art school, but later on he decided to go back and try a different type of art. The art was very creative, using candles to make portraits, lighting all of them at different times making amazing pictures in such a unique different way. A picture of Mona Lisa was drawn with hamburger grease, which was one of his popular pieces of work. Hansen looked at the positive side of things instead of quitting his dreams, “I just had to find a different approach at the art I wanted.” Overcoming anxiety is possible!
Anxiety is overcoming obstacles, it does go away if one is repetitively doing it. Anxiety can lead to depression, but they are not the same thing. James Collier once said, “I developed a ruled for myself : Do what makes you happy, don’t do what makes you depressed.” Collier got an invite to go to Argentina, he really wanted to go but his anxiety got the best of him. His ideas for the future were very myopic. Collier turned down the trip and wasn’t happy about it. Collier was nervous because he had never been that far from New England. Not to mention, Collier also got homesick the first week he was away for college so being homesick also set him back. Don’t go into depression because anxiety isn’t letting you do the things you want to do, just push through it. Later on in life Collier got another offer to go on a trip for work, he took the offer because he was going to do what made him happy, not depressed. I also get anxiety when I have job interviews. Talking to a manager, trying to say all of the right things makes me nervous and loquacious. For instance, going on dates makes one have butterflies, which is a sign of having anxiety, eventually, over time those butterflies go away. Continuing to do the same thing over and over again will make ones anxiety almost
non-existent. Most people have struggles and setbacks, but they always seem to push through. Phil Hansen had a setback, but he wasn’t going to let that stop him from living his dram of art. Hansen could of went in either direction, he went back to art school and found what made him happy again. Collier let his anxiety hold him back from the trip to Argentina, but eventually Collier overcame his anxiety of taking far away trips. Do what makes you happy! Everyone has butterflies sometime in their life, but they always go away over time. No one should go into depression because of a bump in the road.
complications. People should never give up if they know that in life they would accomplish
It is never pleasant to feel anxious or distressed for any reason. However, there are several people who are diagnosed with anxiety disorders as they are very prevalent today. Mental health professionals are helping people overcome hurdles such as panic attacks, severe worry, social anxiety and other specific phobias. I think that anxiety is an emotion that everyone experiences at one time or another in their life. Anxiety can have a negative effect on an individual if it interferes with one’s daily routine and keeps them from doing what they normally do.
When dealing with Anxiety, many believe that is just a panic attack or “butterflies” that make you nervous. They do not comprehend that it is an abundant more than that. Amanda Seyfried once stated about her anxiety, “It's sad, actually, because my anxiety keeps me from enjoying things as much as I should at this age” (Seyfried 1). Her anxiety held her back from doing the things that she enjoyed. Her anxiety caused her sadness. Her anxiety caused her to separate her from others her age. Anxiety can cause an individual to attract Depression as well.
“There is no such thing as pure pleasure; some anxiety always goes with it”- Ovid
In Kim’s article she talks about anxiety and what it is, she states that it is a normal feeling we all experience at some point in our lives. She states how there is bad anxiety and good. The good normally keeps us motivated and even protects us in dangerous situations. The not so good anxiety is when your worry gets out of control and overwhelming. Kim talks to licensed psychologist, Simon, Rego, he says “Anxiety is good at the right levels and in the right conditions. We need it. It fuels us to focus our attention and to think about behavioral solutions to threats in front of us. But it’s when it’s like a pot that bubbles over that it’s bad.” Sally Winston, is a PsyD founder and co-director of the Anxiety and Stress Disorder Institute, also gives examples of anxiety and an anxiety disorder for Kim’s article. “If I’m worried that I have a cavity and have an actionable plan, that’s normal and productive.”(Winston) “But if I’m not able to tolerate uncertainty, if I’m going around and around on unanswerable question, If the worry is excessive and unproductive, then that’s a sign of a disorder.”(Winston)
Anxiety is a term for several disorders that causes the body to feel fear, nervousness, apprehension, and worrying, "Anxiety is a word we use for some types of fear that are consequently to do with the thought of a threat or something going wrong in the future, rather than right now" (Mental Health Foundation). Many people suffer from anxiety every day, consequently most people can not pinpoint what exactly their anxiety originates from. No one likes to experience stress and anxiety, but it is just a phase of life that most humans have to overcome and become stronger. Anxiety disorders are one of the most inferior mental illnesses that affects teens and adults in the United States. Anxiety negatively affects the body and
One of my difficulties I will face is going to art school. It will be awful, like when Odysseus went to the land of the dead. In the Odyssey, this quote, “Avoid those kine, hold fast to your intent and hard seafaring brings you all to Ithaca.” (11. 89-90) , is similar to what I have to do in order to reach my goal. I will have to stick with every thing that comes my way. No matter how horrible it may be.
Having anxiety is like fighting Grendel’s vengeful mother. Even though Grendel’s mother isn’t the worse battle that Beowulf faces, it isn’t the easiest battle he faces either. That’s the same thing with anxiety; is that it’s not the worse challenge I face, but it is also no the easiest. Throughout the fight with Grendel’s mother, Beowulf faced anxiety when he feared that he “would earn no glory.” That’s how I feel when I think that I don’t do a good enough job or that I am not good enough. When something happens that sparks my anxiety, I only sometimes only worry about that and “care about nothing else.” But also sometimes with anxiety I worry about everything at one time. Like how Beowulf “sank through the waves” and then all of a sudden Grendel’s mother “welcomed him in her claws.” Going through the water was worrying, but when he hit the bottom he had something hit him all at once. So Beowulf and anxiety both eventually hit rough spots, but after the challenge we win the battle.
In life we all face obstacles. The troubles that we face don’t define us, how we overcome the situation is what makes us the people we are today. Throughout my life I have faced many trials and tribulations that I had to overcome with the help of my mother, ofcourse. I was smooth sailing in life until I started high school.
It's almost more about looking at obstacles as hurdles rather than a fence or looking at the challenges in life as bumps rather than things that will stop you. A successful person is the person who would get over the hurdle, rather than let it stop them. John Glenn is this person. Although John had many challenges in his life, he was able to overcome all of them with the power of his mind and determination. John was truly a person that was “out of the ordinary” and had accomplished more in his life than two people could even accomplish together. To live a successful life, it takes a lot. It doesn’t come easy, but with a lot of determination and focus anything is possible. The most important key is to never give
Overcoming adversity is imperative. In fact, you can 't have the happiness and success you want unless you have adversity in your life and overcome it. It is essential for progressing into who you want to be. It shows you what you are made of. It teaches you more about yourself, how to approach what you want, and how to maintain the success that you have. Without it, you wouldn 't know how far you could go or how capable you are because you wouldn 't have anything to push you or compare to.
There is a fine line between anxiety and depression. A line that is often times blurred. Although there are differences between the two, they also share many similarities, which can lead to false diagnoses for patients. It only gets more complicated when both illnesses are present. For example, The National Institute of Mental Health (2009) did a study of anxiety disorders and found that 53.7% of people reported they also experienced major depression as a secondary condition. These researchers also stated that people who are severely depressed do become anxious. In order to have a better understanding of anxiety and depression one must first clearly define the two conditions, understand the causes, look at the symptoms involved, and review the different treatment options available.
Overcoming obstacles in life makes you feel more confident, obstacles in life builds character and they will make us work harder which leads to success. To begin with, you need confidence in life. Confidence will help you get through a lot of things. Obstacles, being one them, are in need of a lot of confidence. You need to beleive in yourself to get through obstacles, you can’t give up or get down on yourself.
I used to have a lot of trouble with Anxiety and Depression, these troubles caused me to feel handicapped through life and felt like many things I did were just too hard to deal with, even the most simple of things. In the past year I learned that you cannot let Anxiety and Depression control your life. These things can only control your life, if you allow them to control your life; and after being on anxiety and depression medication for years, I am finally coming off of the anxiety medication.
Some obstacles may be overcome but not always, if not, we should still not give up but look from a different perspective. One of the many obstacles I have overcome was the fear of rollercoasters. My brother and I went to Magic Mountain when I was 7 years old, he informed me that if I didn’t get on all the nerve-racking roller coasters, he would never come back here with me. Sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone to overcome an obstacle. I see now how overcoming this fear has made me a stronger person by feeling as if I could accomplish anything in life.
