In conclusion, I believe that we can all learn a great deal from the people we come into contact with and be able to help better their lives in many ways as well as ours. As I have shown the examples regarding the counselor and Steve’s relationship. So perhaps future generations will not look back upon how to bring down individuals, but rather focus on helping them achieve their goals.
One of the possible research topics I plan to undertake involves analyzing the impact that mentoring can have on the graduation success rate of African American males, particularly when the mentor is a Black male and the relationship takes place in the south. In my opinion, these relationships can have a profound impact on a student’s ability to persist towards graduating from college. Though my research, I want to hear the stories of Black males who have benefited from successful mentoring relationships with other Black men. I believe that establishing a strong mentoring relationship with Black males at a young age can greatly improve their chance of academic success. Furthermore, I believe that mentoring is a strong early intervention mechanism to prevent Black males from dropping out of high school and deterring them from pursuing degrees in higher education. At the same time, I would like my research interest to focus on African American males in the south, but I would like my scope to focus on mentoring relationships between black men; both structured and unstructured.

She has become a great listener and is even able to listen to the things that aren’t always said. When I was teaching parenting classes, many of them opened up and told me their stories of why they were there. Most of the clients that received parenting classes are there because they are court ordered to do so. I believe that my personal qualities helped me when hearing their stories to see them as a person, and not judge them for why they were there. I know that with these qualities I was also able fully to engage and help the clients gain the skills for becoming the best parent they can be. I noticed that each client was comfortable to open up to me and fully embrace their session. I do not like to sound cliche, but I do not think that any of my qualities were not used during this learning experience. The staff at the agency really allowed me to use all of my qualities to my best ability in the tasks they had me
Richard C. Morais comments on the effect of mentors in his novel The Hundred Foot Journey. The mentorship of Madame Mallory, Paul Verdun, and his father, Abbas, push Hassan on his journey and enable him to be the first immigrant chef to receive three Michilen stars. By definition, a mentor is “a wise and trusted counselor or teacher; an influential senior sponsor or supporter” (Dictionary.com). In some way or another, Abbas, Madame Mallory, and Paul Verdun all meet this definition. Morais primarily uses Hassan’s mentors to show the effect that mentors have on their mentees.
Harper’s presentation, he discussed the importance of mentoring. He also discussed some myths of being a mentor and how to be successful and bold. To be successful and bold Mr. Harper said that a person should ask for what they want in life. “Closed mouths don’t get fed” is a popular expression that describes exactly what Mr. Harper was talking about. An individual cannot be scared to ask for what they want in life, because the worst thing that they can be told is no. He also said that people should treat every interaction as an interview. This means making your best first impression whenever speaking to anyone, because every moment is a networking opportunity.
A mentor is a personal, portable, no-cost resource to help you set and meet your unique goals. Mentoring is an explicit one-to-one learning relationship between a person who wants to improve job or career skills and a person who can help him or her do that. Mentors are much more than "go-to" people. Mentors are champions of learning. Mentors take a position of high interest and investment in another's development. They want to mentor. They share knowledge, encouragement, guidance and feedback about job content and organizational culture. They advocate for their mentees' successes. Mentoring provides encouragement and structure to support the mentee. In the ideal, mentoring and being mentored is business as usual.

One of my mentors was able to show me life outside of poverty. They showed me doors of possibilities and started a fire in my heart that would set a blaze of zeal. Going from a life of no direction or goals to having a vision for my life and wanting to purse a better life for my future has done a lot for me. It’s important to help everyone in their current situation because you never know what the outcome will be for that individual. Not everyone has the ability and drive to get out of their current situation. Sometime people don’t want to change from their current situation. For me it was simple I wanted more for myself, I’m glad I made the choice to do something about it. It’s had a lasting effect on my life. My wife and two girls will never know poverty because of my life decision that I made. Making sure I got out of that environment and wanting something better in
