Nursing Observation Essay

I plan to observe a small group of LPN nurses. I want to observe them because this may or not be my future I am very interested in the way they act and how they came to do what they do. The girls I'll be observing mean a lot to me and with 1 in particular I have become extremely close. Brittany, Sam, and Jen all LPN nurses and all I'll get to see and observe weekly. I am interested in their home life as well as how they act in the workplace I plan to observe them in a variety of settings with different patients. The main one being Allison Rose, Allison is a student at mead high school with Rett's syndrome and she has some of the most beautiful eyes you will ever see. These nurses have truly inspired me and I am going to enjoy observing

them in places other than Mead high school, the primary setting for my research.
I believe that they are all very kind and sweet, the nurses will be caring genuine people.

They all get very attached to their patients and I wonder how they cope with losing patients. Even how they find time to themselves, what their family thinks of their job and work hours. My plan for research is fairly simple just get to know them and experience their everyday lives with multiple different nurses, settings, companies just as much variety as possible so I really get a crystal clear idea of what I might be getting into. I would like to observe them in a variety of settings, for example in a patient's home because nine times out of ten they are at home nurses and go to their patients or in a hospital and get to see how that different setting would be, or private practice,and even observing what they do when in schools with patients. Majority of my research will come from LPN nurses that perform in home nursing. For example Jen, Brittany, and Sam all pick Allison up from home ride the bus with her and attend to her needs throughout the school day and then continue home with Allison until their shift is done. They tend to work a lot and really long hours because their patients require supervision and care around the clock. LPN nurses can work in a variety of settings, in a hospital or group home, in home with patients, even in schools helping children. I plan to observe and research each of these settings and other nurses besides Jen, Brittany, and Sam. I hope to

conduct multiple interviews from each LPN nurses setting and their take on their work environment and also how it affects their home life.
I am excited to start observing and starting my research. I am extremely interested in learning how they act outside of work. Are they natural care takers or is it just on the job? What do they do in their spare time? How do they dress on and off the job? Do they usually have kids and how does that interfere with their busy work schedule? How many men are LPN nurses? I truly do think they will all be incredibly different and from all walks of life. Anyone and everyone with a good heart is capable. What is the work stress is like and how do they deal with it? I am also very interested in how they are on the job. How much compassion and heart is associated in their everyday lives? Do they truly love their patients? Have they ever lost a patient? How attached to they come to their patients or if they'd rather not due to the risk of losing them? How many patients do they have normally? How many patients have they had thought their career? There is so much I am hoping to learn about myself as well as the themselves by observing the LPN nurses, and realizing what it really is that they do. They are pretty inspiring and I hope one day to live like they do or maybe this will change my mind and I'll decide a different career path due to my research on this ethnography project.
