Implementing care plans within legal, ethical, and regulatory parameters is a competency that all registered nurses but abide by. As stated before as a baccalaureate nurse you must include not only patients and their families but also the community and population (The Texas Board of Nursing, 2011). Following the nursing process the next competency include evaluate the results of the implementations that have occurred. Once again the biggest difference between the two degree plans is baccalaureate nurses will also include the community and population as well as the patient and their family (The Texas Board of Nursing, 2011). Education is a vital piece of nursing and must be completed at every possible opportunity. Educated patients and their families on promoting health and marinating health is a very important concept. Expanding this education to the community and population is a vital step in helping reduce risk for our patients (The Texas Board of Nursing, 2011). Baccalaureate nurses are responsible for providing and ensure our patients safety. The knowledge from others mistakes can help informs nurses of extra precautions that we can take to ensure our patient’s safety. Risk Analysis and Implication for practice course helped me understand the steps I as a nurse can take as well as the facilities I work for to help reduce the number of medication errors that occur. Interviewing the pharmacist help me get a better insight to what facilities already have in place to help prevent medication errors. However like most things you have to have educated and compassionate caring staff to enforce and follow the guidelines set in place. Management and leadership are very important skills to have as a baccalaureate nurse. Through this course I was able to identify and understand the different styles of leadership as well as the style that best fits the characteristics I can offer as a member of an interdisciplinary team. After completing the multifactor leadership questionnaire I was able to better understand my strengths and weaknesses. Most undergraduate nursing students are not being properly educated on proper medication administration. Clinical instructors and registered nurses need to be updated on medication administration reporting, so students do not develop bad habits when they become registered nurses. Registered nurses must also continue their education on med error prevention to prevent future errors. Another significant problem with registered nurses was that they did not have positive attitudes when reporting an error. Medical staff includes everyone from providers (medical doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants) to pharmacists to nurses (registered and practical). Medication errors account for almost 98,000 deaths in the United States yearly (Tzeng, Yin, & Schneider, 2013). This number only reflects the United States, a small percentage in actuality when looking at the whole world. Medical personnel must take responsibility for their actions and with this responsibility comes accountability in their duties of medication administration. Nurses play a major role in medication error prevention and education and this role distinguishes them as reporters of errors.

Scholarship is a concept that can mean many different things to many different people. As nursing students, scholarship is a concept that we began developing before we started our formal nursing education, will continue to hone during nursing school, and will utilize every day as professional nurses. Scholarship is not something that comes from a singular source, but rather something that is the product of many different experiences, ideas, and types of knowledge. For nurses, it is the synthesis of knowledge from liberal education, knowledge from a variety of disciplines, and the integration of ways of knowing and thinking in nursing that promote scholarship, which in turn leads to the promotion of safe, quality patient care.
Compassion, determination and commitment are qualities I possess that I believe will make me succeed in an Adult Nursing Degree. I am elated to choose this course because it is interesting, challenging, rewarding and satisfying. I have a great passion in assisting the older person especially at their vulnerable state.
