client`s rights to freedom of choice, advocacy and treating them with privacy ,dignity and respect which I deem very important for empowerment. I have undergone studies and training that has prepared me for the adult nursing course and strongly believe in self-directed learning.
I am currently a first year student in a university studying health and social well-being which includes modules such as Social Policy, Social construct, health and Disease and Equality and Diversity after my inability to secure a place on the Adult Nursing degree. Even though I am doing very well and all my grades have been excellent, I still believe adult nursing is my calling. I recently undertook an Access to Health course at Hugh Baird College which involved topics such as Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology, Effective Communication, Safeguarding, health promotion, research methodology, and many more which has I completed with distinctions. I understand the need to embrace care, compassion and confidentiality in all aspect of my nursing
vocation. I was born in Ghana and lived in a deprived area characterised by human rights abuse, oppression and discrimination. Having moved to the UK at the age of 15, I am confident the experience from a different cultural background will play an important part in the promotion of emancipatory practice and empowerment. I take pride in my commitment and attitude towards work. I am a reliable and flexible person willing to accept and bring about change. I am a team player with skills in team bonding but can also work independently if needs be and able to solve problems using my own initiatives. The adult nurse is required to work within a Multidisciplinary team, and adapt to stressful, busy situations. With my awareness of anti-discriminatory practice in the nursing profession, I pride myself in working in a way that promotes anti-discriminatory practice. Also, I am capable of multitasking while prioritising different needs effectively. I have trained myself to listen to others views and opinion and respect their beliefs without being judgemental but can be insistent when needed. All these skills have been developed in my current and previous employments which are also essential to nursing practice. I update my knowledge on current issues by reading book, articles and journals as well as watching the news. I also like to spend time with my family, friends and loved ones when time permits. I believe that your university will give me the best career opportunities based on recommendations from previous and current students. The evidence based practice as part of the course will enable to gain more hands on knowledge and skills. A place at your University will give me the opportunity of making my dream and passion of caring and protecting vulnerable individuals and groups of people a reality.
The role of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) in health care has been identified as a critical role in the goal to provide high-quality health care. APRNs have a bigger role to play in the health care system and it is important that students are provided with relevant and valuable knowledge as well as experience that improve their abilities. Achieving course objectives are critical for APRNs with the goal of contributing positively to the health care system. As a future APRN, I place high priority on life-long learning and the development of other people’s skill sets. All duties associated with health care require a dedication to excellence and selflessness. These are two components of learning that will improve the capabilities of
When I am older I would love to be a Nurse Practitioner, I enjoy helping people when they are sick and taking care of them. Another reason I want to be a Nurse Practitioner is because my sister is also a Nurse Practitioner.
Licensed practical nurses (LPN 's) fill an important role in modern health care practices. Their primary job duty is to provide routine care, observe patients’ health, assist doctors and registered nurses, and communicate instructions to patients regarding medication, home-based care, and preventative lifestyle changes (Hill). A Licensed Practical Nurse has various of roles that they have to manage on a day to day basis, such as being an advocate for their patients, an educator, being a counselor, a consultant, researcher, collaborator, and even a manager depending on what kind of work exactly that you do and where. It is the nursing process and critical thinking that separate the LPN from the unlicensed assistive personnel. Judgments are based
I have had a pleasure of meeting people in the nursing profession, not a parent or a relative but someone that impacted my life in a different way. Someone that 's helped me before they even knew who I was. A nurse steps up to help anyone before they even know who the truly are. Good personality or not nurses believe everyone deserves an equal amount of help. Sometimes nurses help in emergency situations, or casual checkups. My desire to become a nurse was to help people in need, and maybe they will help me in some way as well. Nursing can be a really rewarding job because it might not seem like a nurse does a whole lot but it can affect someone 's life in the smallest way. A four year bachelors of nursing degree is required to get a job as a nurse ("Requirements to Be a Nurse in the
Adult nursing is a subject I am passionate about. In my opinion, there is nothing more important than the health, safety and security of one’s self and others. I aspire to achieve these attributes for individuals in everyday life and this course will help me to do so. I find helping people rewarding and adult nursing provides a professional platform to achieve this target. It also helps me to progress to a stable job that is solely concentrated on making a positive difference in someone’s life. For this reason, I would feel privileged to be accepted on to this course.
According to the American Nurses Association, nursing is defined as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association, 2016). Nurses have many jobs and responsibilities and wear many different hats. Nurses can perform at many different levels depending on their scope of practice which is defined by the board of nursing in one’s state of residence. It is important as nurses to understand and follow
What is the central component of advanced practice nurses (APNs) direct clinical practice and patient/families?
Associate degree nursing programs are an excellent way for students to enter the field of nursing, especially the adult learner population. An associates degreed in nursing is typically less expensive and is one to two years shorter than obtaining a baccalaureate degree. An associate degree is a practical choice for those who have been in the workforce for some time and are looking for a new career path, or for those with families. Obtaining an associate degree in nursing is no small feat, requiring hard work, commitment, and sacrifice on the part of the student, and in some cases their families as well.
Nurses are valuable members of the health care team in providing patient-centered care. Throughout nursing school, students are taught about the need to continue education in order to enhance one’s knowledge and maintain up-to-date skills on the latest, most beneficial interventions. Nurses strive to provide care in a holistic manner based on the nursing process (Wallace, 2013); however, do the patients believe these aspects of care are ideal? Often nurses contemplate ways to provide superior, individualized, patient-centered care, which are essential to improve a patient’s health; however, based on my clinical and personal experiences, I believe that ideal customer service for patients also requires strong interpersonal skills, cultural
As outlined by the Nursing and midwifery Council standarsd for assessment and practice (2008), a mentor is an obligatory prerequisite for pre-registration student nurses and at some point in a nurses career, mentorship is a required professional development (Ali & Panther, 2008). The NMC standards (2008) also relay facilitation of this development has been set out in the standards under eight domains which qualify a nurse to become a mentor when they are able to demonstrate knowledge and achievement of these outcomes, for entry onto the mentor register. The eight domains are as follows; establishing effective working relationships, facilitation of learning, assessment and accountability, evaluation of learning, creating an environment for learning,
I have been studying health and social care in Gower College Swansea and it has helped me to understand different types of care settings and also how the body functions. Health and social care have shown me different ways of life and how quickly life can change. I am currently doing a Foundation Degree in Care and Support which is helping me to gain more knowledge on health care and also social care. During my work experience at Abergelli Services, I worked closely with elderly individuals with severe disabilities and it helped me gain many skills to help me with future use, they also invited me to go back for extra
Adult Nursing is a very rewarding career which provides endless opportunities. I would describe myself as a caring and compassionate person. I believe I possess these qualities naturally. I am compelled to put other people’s needs before my own. I can contribute my personal qualities to this course of being dedicated and determined into committing myself to this 3 year course and excelling academically. Personally, caring for my mother with high blood pressure made me interested in the world of medicine. This long term sickness inspired me to gain more experience outside of the home and volunteer which confirmed that this was the right course for me. I am fascinated by the practical aspect that the course involves as well as the theoretical
Growing in the Philippines I was taught to care for others and respect our elders. When both my grandparents’ health deteriorated I have spent a lot of time looking after them and brought comfort to them. Within that period I have realized that I would love to help more people like that. Observing the nurse, who cared for my grandparents and how well she has treated them in a professional and caring manner, I knew that this profession is something I would like to be trained as an adult nurse. When I have moved to the UK I have completed a Health and Social Care course, which has not been easy for me, as English is not my first language, but because of the support in my commitment I achieved a DDD in my course.
Rather unexpectedly, I found it in a Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH). I enjoy my current role of providing direct care for chronically critically sick patients suffering from complex medical conditions, the opportunity to apply my advanced assessment and critical thinking skills and participate in several educational projects. In LTACH environment, teaching comes as a particularly important nursing activity because of complex medical and rehabilitation requirements of this special patients’ population, and I use every possibility to get close to my patients and their families and assist them in fulfilling their educational, emotional and cultural needs. While I appreciate this opportunity to mature professionally, my goal is to pursue further education and move forward into a level of advanced practice nursing. I believe that utilizing my past and current experiences will let me offer the perspective of delivering primary care services which is unique for nurse practitioners in being evidence-based as well as holistic, culturally oriented and encompassing health care needs of individuals, families and communities.
The career i chose is a branch of the medical field. I chose a career in nursing, more specifically the career path of a registered nurse. This career consists of providing care for people of all ages and helping them with managing their conditions. I chose this career because my mother is an rn and my family has a strong presence in the medical field. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills, or talents needed, salary, benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision.
