For management role they should tell the nurses, it is mandatory to participate CPD activity in Malaysia due to renewal of the license in ensuring the nursing profession and professionalism. For me as a staff nurse I need at least 25 points to renewed my Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) . For my opinion, organization should play an important role in promoting CPD activities. In my hospital, we are given incentives for those who have undergone further studies, and some kind of specialization and recognition by the professional bodies, for example post basic. Clinical instructor are responsible for arrange specific time for CPD activities to encourage more participation. Managers also should participate and contribute to CPD activities themselves and shows example for staffs. They will not take seriously if they see they own manager did not participate in CPD activities as managers supposed to be their role model. For example, my managers have training planner yearly, and allocate time frame for CPD activities, perhaps monthly, one nurse in the department should attend CPD activities (Appendix 4). My manager encourage us by taking alternative measures so that CPD programmed are taken seriously among the staff. For relevancy of CPD activities, the contents of the CPD activities should be relevant for current practices. A CPD training planner should identify to ensure continuous flow of events to avoid repetition of the similar topics during CPD activities. It also important that the CPD activities is cost effectiveness. Funding for staff development should be allocated by departmental heads in the planning of the yearly budget. The course organizers should ensure a reasonable fee is charged when organizing courses. Whoever is organizing courses should look into the costs so that the everybody can afford it. I realized that nowadays the courses
Licensed practical nurses (LPN 's) fill an important role in modern health care practices. Their primary job duty is to provide routine care, observe patients’ health, assist doctors and registered nurses, and communicate instructions to patients regarding medication, home-based care, and preventative lifestyle changes (Hill). A Licensed Practical Nurse has various of roles that they have to manage on a day to day basis, such as being an advocate for their patients, an educator, being a counselor, a consultant, researcher, collaborator, and even a manager depending on what kind of work exactly that you do and where. It is the nursing process and critical thinking that separate the LPN from the unlicensed assistive personnel. Judgments are based
The first council formed was the Regional Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Education Council to introduce the concept to the nursing units. In January 2016, education for staff and leadership began, consisting meeting management, roles and responsibilities, facility/system resources to support success, and setting expectations for participants at all levels. The shared governance structure now includes a Unit Practice Council (UPC) for each nursing unit, Regional Nurse Practice Council (RNPC), and Regional Nurse Leader Council (RNLC). Interprofessional team members serve as ad hoc members on various shared governance councils. In orientation, the CNO sets the expectation for participation in shared governance and shares positive benefits for patients and staff. As the BSWMC-MF shared governance council structure continues to grow and mature, organizational accountability to improve quality of patient care, patient and staff safety, patient and staff satisfaction, and fostering fiscal responsibility by management of resources is created and
Healthcare is a continuous emerging industry across the world. With our ever changing life styles and the increased levels of pollution across the world more and more people are suffering from various health issues. Nursing is an extremely diverse profession and among the highest educated with several levels ranging from a licensed practical nurse (LPN) to a registered nurse (RN) on up to a Doctorate in Nursing. Diane Viens (2003) states that ‘The NP is a critical member of the workforce to assume the leadership roles within practice, education, research, health systems, and health policy’.
In addition, the organization promotes involvement of nurses in professional organizations and among peers in the community, (ANCC, 2014). “Nurses must have the ability to work with other members of the organization to design organizational models for care delivery that meet patient/customer needs and priorities”, (Yoder-Wise, 2015). At Fort Duncan Regional Medical center the Management Team encourage all members of the team to participate in organizational activities such as, actively participate in organizations activities such as:
When someone hears holistic nursing their mind may immediately jump to a form of hippie nursing with little to none scientific background or accuracy in the quality of care. This belief however is extremely inaccurate as to what holistic nursing really is. Holistic care can be defined as to when the nurse honors the patient’s wishes and takes into consideration the social, physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the patient’s life (American Holistic Nurses Association, n.d.). Holistic nursing is growing in popularity amongst patients because of its open communication between nurse and patient, its unique approach to health and healing, as well as the comprehensive care it can provide.
“The ultimate value of life depends upon awareness and the power of contemplation rather than upon mere survival” (Aristotle, n.d.)
The following essay is a reflective paper on an event that I encountered as a student nurse during my first clinical placement in my first year of study. The event took place in a long term facility. This reflection is about the patient whom I will call Mrs. D. to protect her confidentiality. Throughout this essay I will be using LEARN model of reflection. I have decided to reflect on the event described in this essay since I believe that it highlights the need for nurses to have effective vital signs ‘assessment skills especially when treating older patients with complex medical diagnoses.
I’m ambitious to learn new things especially when I'm interested in them; this course provides me with a continuous learning platform that will progress through university as
Learning is considered a long term goal as it helps in continuity and evolution professionally (Thibault, 2011). It is important for me to be updated for best possible care provision. I will achieve this by developing interest to study towards attainment of highest levels of education for example PHD programs, attending education forums hosted by different universities, workshops and health seminars. My other long term ambitions include joining nurses’ professional organizations, administration duties and management skill acquisition and job promotions.
To improve my understanding of maintaining my capability for practice as a RN, I set a goal to learn in depth from my classes, related units, and through interacting with my friends and tutors. There were many setbacks on the way, but as I became more acquainted with the matter I began understanding better. In this reflection I’ll use Gibbs reflective cycle (Gibbs, 1988) to address my experiences as a student nurse in fulfilling the maintenance and capability for practice. Description Through tutorials, lectures and simulation classes every semester, our practice is enhanced and maintained so that the skills and knowledge we learnt is always nurtured while new ones are gained.
What is the central component of advanced practice nurses (APNs) direct clinical practice and patient/families?
Saying that you are a registered nurse is a broad statement. Registered nursing is a job that has many aspects. Registered nurses work in many different settings and they carry out many different routines. As a registered nurse you could be exposed to many different opportunities. My goal is to be a registered nurse but, I need to learn a lot. Becoming a being a registered nurse requires a lot of hard work and effort but, if I focus on my goal I will be able to achieve it.
As I woke up in the morning to get ready for my home health day, I couldn’t help but be excited to try something new. I had tons of questions and couldn’t wait to explore what was behind the door of home health nursing.
The development planning process “refers to a system to retain and motivate employees by identifying and helping to meet their development needs” (Noe, 2013). This process can be used in the internal hiring process. When brining internal employees into the supervisor training program this process will motivate the employees so they will continue to grow within the company. The morale of the overall company will improve when employees are chosen internally for the supervisor training program. This process has four steps to it; they are self-assessment, reality check, goal setting, and action planning. Self-assessment identifies the improvement that is needed from the employee. The company can provide testing that shows the strengths, weaknesses, interest, and values of the employee. Reality check is when the employee determines which of the needs can be developed realistically. The company can create a performanc...
The interdisciplinary course is a core requirement in the after-degree nursing program as it incorporates the principles of self-directed learning and promotes critical thinking, which is an essential element in nursing practice. As a final year nursing student, I believe that knowledge from this course will enhance my ability to provide patient-centered care.
