Introduction For over twenty-two years I have served as a first responder in the United States Air Force in the law enforcement and security career fields (Security Forces). Although this may not seem relevant to Concepts of Emergency Management, in the Air Force Emergency Management, Fire Department, Medical and Security Forces work hand-in-hand to help mitigate, prepare, respond and recover after any type of emergency situation or disaster within the military community. When I earned the rank of Master Sergeant in the Senior Noncommissioned Officer tier, I was given the opportunity to work in the Mission Support Group’s Plans and Protection Cell which was charged with identifying procedures for the response to and recovery from major accidents, natural disasters, terrorist attacks, and use of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, or Nuclear (CBRN) agents against …show more content…

I was then afforded the opportunity to become the Alternate Antiterrorism Officer for Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB), and continued to work with the installation’s Emergency Management Office to help the community prepare, prevent, respond and recover for All Hazards, not just terrorist attacks. I also assisted individuals from our headquarters to try and implement an All Hazards approach to any type of disaster (not just terrorist in nature) into the Air Force’s computer based tool for integrated defense called ForcePRO. During my tenure in the Air Force I was also a Security Forces Controller and later on a member of the installations Crisis Action Team, both of which are key parts of the military’s Incident Command System linking Ellsworth AFB to other military installations all over the world and the local community. Overall, I have worked directly in the Emergency Management realm for five years, researching, planning, documenting, and preparing plans, along with responding and help recovering.
