There are a variety of things humans do in their everyday lives without noticing them. They breathe, walk, read, and write. Looking back, most humans did not know to read or write before the age of five. These are things a person learns and may never or get how to do, much like riding a bike. Being taught to write is one of the strongest skills and gifts that a person can maintain and develop throughout a lifetime. One can never be done learning how to write; new techniques, styles, and forms arise on a daily basis and allowing creativity to flow is an unending process. Through the process of writing and the writing done in the class, I have come to learn a great deal about myself and others. Writing acts as a form of communication. People …show more content…
One must think about the role, the audience, exigence, ecology and many more things. Prior to this class, I wrote to fulfill the assignment and get the grade I desired. Although I still strive for these things, I have added more to my writing. I desire to have passion and meaning in my writing. Having the gift to know how to read and how to write is something I have taken for granted, when considering the facts that I am indeed privileged and have a gift that I should use. This course has helped me find exigence in all of my writings, whether it be an essay, to-do list, or a text message. I enjoy thinking about being remembered by the words I have written. I hope that if this were to happen, people would be able to know me through my words and locate my passion, human, education, and overall love for all things good. This course has helped me desire to focus on what I am writing and the message I am trying to portray, rather than meeting the criteria on a rubric. In reference back to the syllabus and desired course outcomes, I firmly believe that I have exceeded these expectations. The amount of effort and thought that I have put into these projects, reading responses, reflections, etc., have more than shown that I met these outcomes and put in my best effort into the revisions of these projects, taking into consideration the peer …show more content…
I am including my major revision of Project 1, as well as my first draft of Project one for you to be able to see how the project changed and became a more effective argument. Next, I included all of my reading responses from the semester with edits and various corrections to demonstrate my use of applying the comments made by you and my peers, as well as my desire to provide my best possible work for this final portfolio. Continuing, I chose to include my revisions of Project 2, Project 3.1, and Project 3.2. These works all included additional work and I feel as though I completely all of the revisions that were suggested in the comment section and the editions that I felt were necessary to make my final copies the best copies of each of these projects. By editing the major projects, I was able to see where my faults occurred the first time around. I also chose to include my first reflection and my last reflection over the three questions about writing to demonstrate how my ability to reflection and think deeply about writing has improved over this course and the last few months. The last group of documents I included were three papers from my philosophy class this semester. I believe these are effective in showing how I have
When writing a five paragraph essay, there are five steps one must fallow in order to attain perfection, these steps include understanding the question, brainstorming, writing a rough copy, revising, and creating a final draft. The first and most important step is understanding the topic. The topic of the essay is what the essay will be about and if this is misunderstood, the whole essay will be off course. The second step, brainstorming, will help organize thoughts and ideas so they flow amiably. There are many different ways to brainstorm, some of the most helpful are making a web of ideas, making a list of ideas, or creating a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the conviction. All these ideas will be related to the topic at hand. For example, if the essays topic is about how the earth is affected by global warming, then the brainstorming ideas might include the ozone lair being reduced or how global climate has raised. The third step when writing a five paragraph essay is creating the rough draft. The first draft must have all the features the final will, but does not have to be...
Most of us write in some form every day, so you would expect that most of us would be well practiced and pretty good at writing. I read and write all the time; I have been taken several college courses and nearly all of them require write of some form. However, before taking this class not only was I not a good writer, I knew I wasn’t a good writer. Now I am not saying that I am ready to write my first novel, but I certainly more confident in turning in my college papers. The content of this course and the style of teaching was incredibly beneficial to me. Throughout this course we had multiple assignments that were aimed to improve us as writers. I am sure that everyone took something different from this course, and I am sure that each student took more from some areas than others; however for me there were three major things that I saw that I benefited from most. Our weekly craft lessons, grammar plan, but most of all, observational learning.
Writing is a process I’ve grown to despise. Ever since grade school, I’ve had problems trying to express my ideas on paper. My writing process involves thinking about what’s being asked and trying to reflect my thoughts the best way I can on paper, but my thoughts don’t always come out as clear as I want them to be sometimes leaving a question not fully answered. My writing process isn’t a consistent set in stone process, but since being in ENC 1101 I always follow some of the same parameters such as revising my drafts, grammar usage and considering context and audience.
There are various ways writers can evaluate their techniques applied in writing. The genre of writing about writing can be approached in various ways – from a process paper to sharing personal experience. The elements that go into this specific genre include answers to the five most important questions who, what, where, and why they write. Anne Lamott, Junot Diaz, Kent Haruf, and Susan Sontag discuss these ideas in their individual investigations. These authors create different experiences for the reader, but these same themes emerge: fears of failing, personal feelings toward writing, and most importantly personal insight on the importance of writing and what works and does not work in their writing procedures.
...on, this course has taught me many different aspects to writing that I was unaware of in high school. This course has been incredibly fulfilling for me and has been nothing short of an amazing experience. I truly believe all of the things I have learned within this course, such as, writing proper thesis statements, proving my points within the body, discussing topics that critically engage my readers, the use of grammar, and many other essential skills will help me tremendously on my educational path. Although I have learned many skills as to writing a quality essay, I know there are many aspects to writing I can improve on, such as, expanding on my introductions and providing more background within my topics to the readers. I am extremely grateful for the various skills I have learned throughout this course, and I fully intend to utilize them all as I move forward.
Anyone who is doing any type of writing piece has a process. They may not know it but it is there and it exists. It is one’s approach to their piece and how they go about accomplishing it. It has to do with how you write it, how many drafts you do, as well as your revision process if you even have one. My writing process however has room for improvement. A summation of my writing process consist of heavy planning, one draft, and little revisions. Anne Lamott, Shirley Rose, and Kathleen Yancey all drew attention to major points through their writing pieces that support and dispute my writing process. Through their pieces they have found a way to inspire, inform, and entertain me all at the same time while passing along great information that
Writing can be a very difficult process for those who do not know how to go about constructing
Recently, I have been writing quite a few essays and papers throughout my college experience. This entails, but not limited to, English, History, and Economics. My style of writing and methods have generally remained the same throughout the process. In this assignment, I will be discussing how I prepare to start a paper, what my thoughts are through the process, and my strengths and weaknesses of what my final drafts look like.
I am sitting in my bed, thinking about my process of writing as I am trying to go through it. It seems the more I think about it, the less I understand it. When I am writing, I don’t think. Which I know, sounds bad. But, I spend every single moment of every single day over thinking, over analyzing, and over assuming every aspect of my life. When I’m writing, I’m free from that for just a little bit. Until of course, my hands stop typing or the pencil (no pens- never pens) stops moving, then I’m right back on the carousel that is my brain. Heidi Estrem says, “...writers use writing to generate knowledge that they didn’t have before.” (Writing is a Knowledge-Making Activity 18). I believe my ability to write without an exact destination
It’s ENC 1101, Not knowing what to expect I entered the room with absolute fear, after all it was my first year of college. Although I’ve never been quite fond of English in the past, I’ve always excelled in the subject. I had yet to work for my grade and no English course I had taken proved to be a challenge through my eyes. I am a huge procrastinator, if not one of the biggest when it comes to assignments. I most likely wrote papers the night before or the day of and still managed to average an “A” on all of them. This bad habit led me to believe that I was cheating myself. Throughout my scholastic years I always had the mentality of asking “what could this class possibly teach me that I didn’t already know?” I believed that my writing skills were perfected down to the very word. I was in for a rude awakening.
My English Literature major has helped me to achieve an outstanding level of appreciation, enjoyment, and knowledge of both American and British Literature. As a high school AP English student, I struggled through great works like Hamlet and To the Lighthouse. My teacher’s daily lectures (there was no such thing as class discussion) taught me merely to interpret the works as critics had in the past. I did not enjoy the reading or writing process. As a freshman at Loras, I was enrolled in the Critical Writing: Poetry class. For the first time since grade school, my writing ability was praised and the sharing of my ideas was encouraged by an enthusiastic and nurturing professor. Despite the difficulty of poetry, I enjoyed reading it. Because of my wonderful experience in Critical Writing, my love for reading and writing was renewed and my confidence in my abilities as a writer had been restored. I decided to take a second chance on English by declaring Literature and Writing as my majors.
I am going to die before I finish this! A lot of people have trouble writing papers and often think that saying. But, there are certain things one must follow to write a proper paper. There are steps to make writing a paper much easier. The writing process and basic structure of an essay help create a proper paper for school such as an Investigative Research Paper.
The process shows that we need to “Demonstrate thorough engagement with the iterative processes of reading, writing, and speaking” (Winek). In this course we had a process for writing, which includes prewriting, drafting, editing, and integrating feedback. These steps made it less complicated to complete my essays.
My perception of what it takes to be a good writer has drastically changed through the years. What began as a simple interpretation of the text or topic has since developed into a more conceptual, open-minded, and creative way of thinking and responding. Good writing isn’t strictly limited to that, however. It also includes copious amounts of framework, reading, and research. Now, I am no writing expert myself.
Over the period of time that I was in this course, I thought it would be a very simple and easy to finish class. But as time went on, I found myself to be demanded more of what I think, what I feel, what must be relied on my ability to understand the concepts and conventions of not only the essays, but of what goes on in the writers mind when writing.
