My Teaching Philosophy

Education has always been a huge part of my life. I decided I wanted to become a teacher when I was in kindergarten. My kindergarten teacher was an amazing person and even at the age of six, she inspired me. Throughout the following years, I maintained excellent grades and dedicated myself to school.

The point in my life that solidified my decision was my eleventh grade year. I started tutoring a friend’s daughter. One day, her mother came to me and asked me if I would tutor another girl. The girl was failing math with a 32% and had no family support to help her out. I agreed and immediately started tutoring the girl. On her next six weeks report card, her grade had jumped to a 90%. I knew that I had played a part in her success and realized that teaching was my calling.

I believe that you cannot just choose one philosophy to base your teaching methods on. I agree with points of two very different philosophies. The first philosophy is essentialism. This is a teacher-centered philosophy. I think that core courses are very important in education. H...
