I Want to Coach High School Football As I was preparing to leave high school and look for a career, I had to make an immense decision. I had to decide what field I wanted to pursue, and how to go about it. I knew I wanted to teach because it offered everything I wanted in a profession including, good benefits, decent pay, the chance to work with children, and the chance to eventually coach High School Football. No other career I found can offer all of these advantages. Although I know I want to teach there is more to the teaching profession than that. First, I have to learn the curriculum and then how to bring that material across to the students. The actual learning process comes naturally for me, but I had to stop and think about how I would bring it across once I become a teacher. This involves many aspects of my life and what I feel is important. I feel ones teaching philosophy pulls from every portion of an individuals belief system. These can include your moral and ethical beliefs, your personality, and also what you, as a teacher, feel is important for the students to learn. To me this seems to be a very big responsibility, so when I started considering my teaching philosophy, I did not take the task lightly. It seems to me that there is a very thin line between fulfilling your own expectations as a teacher, and giving the children what they need and even what they want. I decided that I as a prospective educator, found no teaching philosophy that fulfilled all of my beliefs and hopes. I felt that choosing one philosophy in its entirety was to extreme. I feel that there are parts of all of the philosophies that are excellent, but the philosophies as a whole fail the students in some aspects. That is why for me, I chose an eclectic philosophy. I broke down all of the ways of thinking and came up with my own personal philosophy to use some day when I achieve my dream of being a teacher. I feel it is very important to teach the basic skills first.

Most individuals can recall when they were very young saying, “When I grow up, I want to be a . . . ” For some people, over the course of growing up their ambitions changed several times. But for many, they ended up in a career which was a life long desire, goal, or ambition. Today, students must begin to think about their future on a more serious note than that of childhood during the latter part of their middle school years. This is during their eighth grade year usually, which is a year or two younger now than just a few years past. But, the reason for this is still the same. This will enable students to gear their education in a route which will hopefully benefit them after high school graduation or in their future. For some, these choices and decisions will never change. But for others, for various reasons, they may decide on a career change somewhere down the road or during the course of their life. As for myself, I definitely fall into the latter of the two mentioned. After working for years in the field of business (my first degree), I felt a desire and need for a career change. I wanted a more rewarding career. Personally I feel doctors and teachers have the most rewarding careers of any profession. Therefore, teaching became my goal and ambition for my career. Unlike most individuals, I was able to obtain first hand insight into my choice before returning to college to further my education in this area by substitute teaching on a permit for three years (based on my Bachelor of Science degree and six hours of graduate studies). As technology is developing so fast, it is important that people in authority, for example judges and politicians, make sure that there are laws in place that protect the rights and safety of citizens in terms of how their DNA information is used and stored. They also need to make sure that they consider DNA as a piece of evidence that is usually very reliable but also has its limitations and exceptions and can never be 100 percent accurate. The general public can now get their DNA fingerprints made as a piece of artwork. As this is so easy and fairly inexpensive, people need to be aware of any implications this could have. For the most part, it would be harmless and an unusual item to own, however, people should make informed decisions when it comes to their personal details, including their DNA, now and even more so in the future.
I believe that behind every great teacher is a teacher that inspired them to be in the classroom. Merriam Webster defines philosophy as “a set of ideas about how to do something or how to live” and education as “the action of teaching someone, especially in a school, college or university”. Your philosophy of education is just that, your ideas about how to teach. There are no right or wrong answers. Sure, there are more “hirable” answers, but the joy about writing your philosophy of education, is that it gets to evolve and grow with you as you gain experience as an educator. How exciting is that?
Every teacher has a different method of teaching. The teachers that I have had in my school career have been no exception. In this way, each teacher has set an example for me, as a future teacher, to follow or not to follow as I see fit. With the examples from my teachers and in continuing my education, I am developing my own method of teaching. I plan to use a combination of teaching methods in my own classroom. My method will be an eclectic approach because I will be using components of more than one philosophy. I will be using essentialism, behaviorism, progressivism, and existentialism.
To be a teacher it is imperative to have philosophies on teaching; why you want to teach, how you want to teach, and what you want to teach. There are six main philosophies of education; essentialism, behaviorism, progressivism, existentialism, perennialism, and reconstructionism. My two strongest philosophies are progressivism and existentialism. Progressivism in short is the philosophy where the student utilizes their ability to access knowledge for themselves with a method they have discovered on their own instead of simply being told answers. Upon being faced with the task of writing my philosophy of teaching, I made many attempts to narrow the basis for my philosophy down to one or two simple ideas. However, I quickly came to the realization that my personal teaching philosophy stems from many other ideas, philosophies, and personal experiences. Now that I have told you what has led me to this decision I would like to tell you exactly why I have chosen to become a teacher. I want to become a teacher not because of the salary nor because I want weekends and holidays off; rather, I want to become a teacher because I truly have a passion for making a difference in others lives. I feel that teaching is perhaps one of the most fulfilling roles in life. Becoming a teacher to me means helping to shape another person by teaching and instructing them.
Through my own experiences, and as enforced by others' opinions in the profession, I have found that teaching is one of the most rewarding careers. Not only are you placed in the position of instructing and guiding children and young adults through the life long learning process, but you are able to give back to the schools and communities which have supported your early education and experiences that opened you up to a bright future. In becoming an educator, I hope to someday share the knowledge and lend the helping, supportive hand that I was once given, allowing students to formulate their own perspectives of the multicultural society and world around them. Around the world bullying still not taken serious, many believe is a kid’s game. Many still commit suicidal because of the cause of bullying. “According to statistics reported by ABC news , nearly 30 percent of students are either bullies or victims of bullying , and 160,000 kids stay home from school every day because of fear of bullying” (par1). Bullying still a problem with no solution in society.
A teaching philosophy is critical in my role as a future successful teacher. It will guide me in the way I conduct myself, how I develop curriculum, and how I establish order in my classroom. As a teacher it is important for me to be consistent with how I manage my classes. With a central philosophy as a backbone it will be easy to follow my own simple guidelines.
The first main reason that I have chosen teaching as a profession is because I believe that it’s continuous rewards will help me to lead a happy and fulfilled life. For example, teaching young children is one of the few jobs in which you can give and receive hugs on a daily basis. Children have an innocence and a passion for knowledge that I find amazing and I do not feel complete unless I am around them. Teaching will help provide this fulfillment for me every day. Also, teaching is a job in which it is ok, and even encouraged, to laugh each and every day. I feel that this is important for a person’s well-being and I think that it helps to keep people young and alive. I feel that in many other professions the day-to-day routine would become monotonous and boring, and I do not think that I would live a truly happy and fulfilled life unless I could be around children. I feel that a classroom provides many unique and dynamic opportunities every single day and I find that very appealing. Also, I am a very relationship-oriented person and I feel that I will enjoy building unique relationships with each child. I plan on knowing every child as thoroughly as possible because I feel that this will help me to be better at my job.
There have been many factors that have inspired me to this career choice. Watching my teachers, both past and present, has inspired me to become a teacher. I have a genuine interest in lifelong learning and as such I have the desire to not only instil knowledge and values to others, but also encourage them to share my passion for learning. Social Justice and leadership roles at school, along with my extra-curricular involvement with Cowra Youth Council, have highlighted my ability to work with and for the benefit of young people. In essence I know that my abilities and aspirations will make me a good teacher.
