My past year at Edward M. Kennedy has been wonderful. I have made many relationships with students, teachers, and administrators. I really feel as though I have become a part of the school community and for that, I feel so grateful for this experience. After looking through my goals proposed at the beginning of the winter I feel confident in saying that I met each objective that I set out to! I feel more assured in the following areas; lesson planning, classroom management, and curriculum. Each week my mentor teacher, Ms. Frazier-Booth, and I would spend two planning periods together. During these times Ms. Fubu would go over the lessons for the day and we would plan future lessons. We would look at standards together and develop objectives for the lessons. These skills, that developed over the entire semester, culminated in a lesson that I prepared for the class. Ms. Fubu provided the content for the lesson and I structured the plan. Watching the lesson we crafted together play out was so fulfilling and made me feel more capable as a teacher. I feel confident going into my …show more content…
My mentor teacher is always talking with me about finishing my MTEL’s and becoming a registered substitute for BPS. I feel more confident with completing my MTEL’s this summer after being at EMK this past spring. I am grateful that I didn’t register for my English MTEL before this summer, because I think I would have psyched myself out. Being in an English classroom for the past year has given me reassurance that I am supposed to be an English teacher in this world and the MTEL will go over fine. Ms. Fubu has talked about school expansion in 2019 and has expressed interest in having me join the EMK team. I know this is the future, and who knows what the future will hold. However, just having this conversation happen really furthered belief in
I then asked him if the youth center has ever considered asking for donations to go towards their funding, and if so what came as a result? He responded by stating that the youth center has indeed received donations in the past from various individuals, none of which though are large enough to have a lasting impact on the organization. Although “they did help ease some of the problems at the time being.”
Walking in one the first day of English Comp one I was nervous and scared. Our teacher announced on the first day of school we had a paper due the following Friday. I wanted to lie down and cry when she made that announcement. Knowing I had many weaknesses, I did not realize I also had strengths. In Composition one I learned that my strengths include knowing the variety of my audience, being descriptive with my writing, understanding grammar and mechanics, and arguing both sides of a story. I found that my weaknesses are topic sentences, transitioning, guiding my audience, and using too much research. Though I have plenty of things that could some improvement, this semester in composition one I many triumphs.
I was available to the student needs, particularly to support them when they needed a voice to press for their needs and wants. Changing their concept of education and to love what they learn was a great challenge for me, but it was also one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. I now see my department as a place to develop an environment where student and faculty and staffs are able to develop their potential and achieve their personal, professional and educational
This year in SGA, I have gained new leadership skills and I have used them to help Willard High School become a better place. I have learned to to do new things and reach certain goals with new people. The impact we have on the school has really opened my eyes to how different ideas can lead to great things. There are several things I have helped with, whether that being filming videos, setting up for the dances, helping with the assemblies, etc. My greatest success in SGA this year was being able to step out of my comfort zone, because I am not usually a person to take charge, but I have been able to help others get things done and reach the goals we were trying to reach such as advertising events on social media, making videos for spirit weeks, and taking pictures at all of the events that we run.
I was able to get a firsthand experience of what it’s like to be a teacher. In addition to experience with students, I also learned how to make up worksheets, mark students work and review curriculum. I learned how to engage students in lesson plans, and how to appeal to each student's learning style and abilities. Leadership and initiative were really important to have in this position to be able to take full advantage of the opportunities given. These opportunities allowed me to be in the position of a teacher, teaching the class or giving individual attention to students.
After completion of Unit 1 and observing an experienced colleague, I have come to the conclusion that one cannot conduct and execute an effective lesson without good planning. A teacher may have come with an excellent plan but if it is beyond or below the abilities of the student then it’s no good. So for things to be set in motion, different learner’s abilities and learning styles (Perkins, 1995) have to be tapped in by the teacher to get the best out of each learner. Planning is the key to executing an enriched lesson, which should be conducive to learning.
Yesterday Class was very helpful for me, because I was really confused with everything, since we were the end of the semester, and I was actually glad I came, because I was struggling with my lesson planning and I had now idea how to even began, but after the class it was clear for me, and I am glad we did one lesson plan the in class.
The education and career mentoring program is a program that Misscha Tacchia created. The project includes high school seniors mentoring the high school freshman. Second part of the program is when adults who have become successful, mentor the high school seniors on what comes after high school. The adult mentors gave us some helpful information as to when we have job interviews. My educational and career goals are all planned out.
This semester has been challenging, and a bit stressful for me. As I come to an end of Composition I, I have realized several things about myself. During this semester I had to work hard and try to manage to reach a considerable progress in my learning and I believe I have been successful so far. At least, I am hoping that I have been. During my time in Composition I, I was asked to write seven papers, including the one I am currently writing now.
During my student teaching experience, I spent a lot of time preparing each lesson plan to cover the main topics of the lessons. I realized that I needed to be prepared as much as I could, more importantly, I needed to prepare to be flexible to adjust the lesson plans to be comprehensible for all the students because they all learn at different styles. I found that making the day go as smoothly as possible allows the students to gain the most from the lessons. Showing confidence and being involved enriched the student teaching experience.
I did not realize it would take as much time as it did. Our group really wanted to get it right and perfect it as much as possible. I also discovered that collaboration enhanced the lesson’s creativity and variety of activities. I had previous ideas about what I thought would be good for each 5E section. After meeting with my fellow classmates multiple times throughout the weeks, I see now how the lesson plan got better and better each time we planned. It became more creative and included variation with activities. With lesson planning, I realized that it has to be detailed in order for the teacher to be fully prepared and be through as if a substitute teacher or another colleague was going to perform this lesson plan. At first, the lesson plan seemed tedious and going to be large commitment. After completing the lesson plan, I learned that every step and component had a purpose
Conclusion: And, here’s a summary or conclusion of my research project report: • I made ‘Mentoring through Questioning’ a strategy for my research project. • My own daughter (a year 10 student at Wellington High School) came up with her concerns about her subjects’ selection for year 11 (from a wide range of options) which would help her future career aspirations. • I decided to be her mentor and she readily agreed to be my mentee for my research project and make a report out of it.
Personal Development is a lifelong process that involves the assessment of current skills and talents and the enhancement of oneself based on that assessment which then leads to the realization of goals and an improved quality of life. To be able to assess yourself, you need to be able to reflect on your past which helps you to understand the attitudes you have developed and the foundation that you will be building your life on. Also, you have to reflect on your present to see if there’s room for improvement and reflect on your future so that you can achieve your aspirations.
Every classroom is filled with different students and different ways of learning. No two function the same. Therefore, as a teacher, you must create your own learning atmosphere. In my classroom, I hope to have a rich learning environment that corresponds to children of any race and cultural, those who are English Language learners (ELLs) and students with special needs. Furthermore, my classroom should also be a place of collaboration between the teacher and family. Building this strong relationship is important for everyone in the classroom.
In the process of completing this coursework, I have realised that every teacher should be all-rounded and equipped with adequate skills of educating others as well as self-learning. As a future educator, we need make sure that our knowledge is always up-to-date and applicable in the process of teaching and learning from time to time. With these skills, we will be able to improvise and improve the lesson and therefore boost the competency of pupils in the process of learning. In the process of planning a lesson, I have changed my perception on lesson planning from the student’s desk to the teacher’s desk. I have taken the responsibility as a teacher to plan a whole 60-minutes lesson with my group members. This coursework has given me an opportunity
