This year in SGA, I have gained new leadership skills and I have used them to help Willard High School become a better place. I have learned to to do new things and reach certain goals with new people. The impact we have on the school has really opened my eyes to how different ideas can lead to great things. There are several things I have helped with, whether that being filming videos, setting up for the dances, helping with the assemblies, etc. My greatest success in SGA this year was being able to step out of my comfort zone, because I am not usually a person to take charge, but I have been able to help others get things done and reach the goals we were trying to reach such as advertising events on social media, making videos for spirit weeks, and taking pictures at all of the events that we run. In Media, I have been able to help Jordan and Maddie make videos and it has been a lot of work, but the videos always …show more content…
Morgan and Riley are always informing me about things they are doing on the dance committee and I try my best to help them. For Ladies Pay All, I made many snowflakes with Morgan who taught me a new way to make them. Before I only knew how to make plain, old, boring snowflakes. The process of setting up for dances is also a lot of work so I am happy I got to help their committee finish. The LPA dance went really smoothly before and after with everyone's help. We got done cleaning quickly without any trouble and staying after school to set up before hand wasn’t too difficult. Even though there wasn’t a huge group of people at LPA, the dance was still a success. An accomplishment for the whole class is the Homecoming Dance. I couldn’t go because I play on the softball team, but I was informed that it was still successful. We also took a whole bunch of pictures at the dances and to me it is a huge personal achievement knowing others save those pictures to remember the dance for
As the lights flashed and the representatives walked down the red carpet the audience was awed by the sweet smiles and mature beauty that radiated off the couples. They respectfully encapsulated the love and Christian faith of our school as they all clapped for our homecoming king and queen. There surely was a reason they were voted representatives for they showcased sweet attitudes all night long, smiling, hugging, and enduring long periods of picture taking and never complaining. After the red carpet showing of our homecoming court everyone enjoyed delicious fruit punch and a couple slices of the cake all while talking and simply enjoying the beautiful decorations and hollywood themed atmosphere. When the mood shifted and Winter Formal began
Even though my time in SlS has been only for six weeks I think that this course has truly benefited me because I have learn a great deal from all of the different speakers that have stepped into our classroom along from my professor and peer mentor . They each left me with a new perspective on how I should tackle my goals to be successful. I’ve learned that time management is key in order to get task and assignments done in a reasonable amount of time, proper note taking skills, how to work in groups and do presentations, stress management, financial decisions are also keys things that I have learned. Most importantly what I’ve gained out of this class is networking because its not about who you know its about who knows you. This stood out
The best leadership accomplishment that demonstrates my potential to make significant contributions to the campus community and broader society is cheerleading. Cheerleading has made a huge impact on my life and has created many opportunities for me. It has paved the way for my high school career. Cheerleading provided me with opportunities to lead, volunteer, perform and show the athletic ability of our squad.
Four years ago during the summer before my first year of high school, I started volunteering as coach of a fourth grade cheer squad with three of my friends. We needed to teach twenty-eight girls a one-minute dance and a hello cheer before their first game. I went into that first practice very naive, believing the girls would listen and do as I say. That practice turned out to be a complete mess. The kids jumped all over me, would not pay attention for more than three motions, and repeatedly asked me random questions about the things I liked. That two hour practice was one of the most hectic and frustrating moments I have experienced, but, at the same time, it was new, exciting, and entertaining. The past years of coaching have allowed me to form strong relationships with these girls to the point where I see them as my little sisters. Being their coach involves more than just teaching them cheers and dances, sometimes I have to settle their differences, comfort them, and let them have fun. When the girls reached sixth grade, the team started to go through drama. One practice, two girls
These events have lead me to become more confident when speaking. With this ability, I have become better able to pursue my dreams. For example, after the first year I participated in the leadership development competition, I decided to run for a position as an FFA officer. I now hold the vice president position for the Rockwall FFA chapter. While I participated in these events last year, our chapter won district sweepstakes and I have been further motivated to continue my involvement in FFA.
From the past year of my involvement with Student Government, and the activities and events participated in and organized, I wish to rejoin SGA for the upcoming school year. When I first applied for Student Government, I initially expected a laid back role within the organization, as it was my first year and it was widely known that the group lacked efficiency or an actual role in the school community. Fortunately, I was wrong, and entered this school year with active (and stressful) responsibilities for the organization. Looking back on my own performance and actions during each event and student-run activity I participated in, I would like to think I served my purpose well, and excelled in the roles I was given, such as planning events,
Leading up to the 2014 band season was a record breaking marching band. In the 2011 and 2012 band seasons we blew away all of our old records, and it was the best shape the band has been in since 2004. Our freshman class(my class in 2011) was set up to do nothing but succeed in our marching band career. The leadership skills taught to us our first three years in band gave us better value than any leadership book probably could, our staff had big plans for my class.
Since Student Council is a leadership club, what leadership roles have you held in this past school year?
... major of my marching band, I have learned a little more of how to successfully be a positive leader and earn the respect of others while in this position. I have gained more confidence in myself from the support of my mom and my step-dad and have also noticed how much I enjoy being able to help benefit others while being in leadership roles. While I feel like I’ve gained many great values from my mom, I feel like this one has been one of the more significant.
I found this presentation especially interesting. I thought that both of the women were especially interesting. Both of them seamed to bring a lot to the table as well as seaming to have a great sense of humor.
Some leadership skills that yearbook has allowed to me acquire is: effective communication, problem solving, honesty, positivity, and constructive criticism. In my future, I am planning to become an elementary school teacher; in order to be a teacher, you always have to be a leader, especially with younger kids. These skills will help me to become an efficient and helpful teacher. All of the leadership skills I learned are so beneficial and helpful, but constructive criticism stands out above all. Before yearbook, I would always take constructive criticism in a very negative way, but yearbook has helped me learn to take that criticism and use it to help better
However, I met Classidy in elementary school, and we were best friends. After coming into highschool, our relationship started to drift apart. Currently, we are all competing against each other for the solo in this year Spring Show. Who ever wins this solo gets the chance for a scholarship. Most of my dance teachers disagree with me competing against them because they don’t think that I need the scholarship money since my parents pay for my tuition in full. I want this to be the thing that grabs my parent attentions and makes them finally listen to me. I want them to actually participate in my life: see me at a performance, and do more than pay for things. This experience was very rough, but opened me up to something I didn’t know that I could do. I was able to channel something inside of me to become creative, and put emotions into the dance. Usually when I dance I tend to be very shy, but after this I am more confident in my dance moves even if I know that I am not executing the move correctly I still try. That is something that I can be proud of because I have always had problems with creating dance moves, and I always thought that I didn’t have that in me to do so. It was a wonderful experience to be opened up to. Also, we are trying to incorporate our ballet term through our dance moves even though we all have different genres of dance, which is what makes it a challenge. The `tone of our dance is competitive and aggressive
Besides academics, fine arts and sports in school, I have attained leading roles in different groups. This year, I am the Spirit Leader of Student Council encouraging monthly goals and themes and assisting in school events. From creating a student council with a group of peers three years ago we have had success in many events and have found new ways to spread spirit, gather important information and assist with financial groups. Recently, I stepped up to be the leader of the fundraising committee for our ...
Before I begin I just wanted to say that this class was very intertaing and at the same time somewhat difficult. I really enjoyed how you would teach the class not only with us writting down things and taking notes but also with us watching video clips on the screen and also with us getting up from our seats and moving aroung several times like how you had us do in your class. You are a really good teacher. I ma not just saying this to get on your good side; I actually really do mean what I am saying right now. I am glad I was able to be in your class and learn a lot about this complicated world of dance.
This has enabled me with multiple opportunities to demonstrate leadership. For example, I have been nominated to be team captain and or an officer in numerous activities and for multiple years such as: cross-country, basketball, and National Honor Society. These opportunities have played a major role in making me the person I am today. Leadership has taught me how to communicate. I have also learned how to be a team player. I am a strong believer that high school sports and activities teach many life lessons that will make an individual successful in the future. I have also demonstrated much community involvement throughout high school. Every Sunday, I volunteer in the children’s nursery at church. Annually, I sing at our sponsored Women’s Club Christmas Pageant. During the summer, I work as a lifeguard at the Ainsworth City Pool. On the side, I hold private swimming lessons with approximately four to eight children of all ages during the summer months. I have learned how to budget and manage money throughout this experience. This has also taught me how to handle some sticky situations. I have learned how to handle certain affairs if a parent is upset and or concerned. Throughout the year I have also volunteered at our local blood drive. This has also been a great experience. This allows for me to help with an event of my interest, seeing that I am pursing a career in the
