Recommended: Strengths in writing
Walking in one the first day of English Comp one I was nervous and scared. Our teacher announced on the first day of school we had a paper due the following Friday. I wanted to lie down and cry when she made that announcement. Knowing I had many weaknesses, I did not realize I also had strengths. In Composition one I learned that my strengths include knowing the variety of my audience, being descriptive with my writing, understanding grammar and mechanics, and arguing both sides of a story. I found that my weaknesses are topic sentences, transitioning, guiding my audience, and using too much research. Though I have plenty of things that could some improvement, this semester in composition one I many triumphs. On the first day when Mrs. Garth told us we had to write a paper in just two days my heart sank. I knew I was not a good writer, so I thought I was going to fail my first assignment. When I write, I tend to go off topic and it throws my audience off. This all comes back to topic sentences and transitions. When writing a regular paper, I left my audience behind by not leading them in the direction I was headed with my paper. I jumped around instead of going in order of thesis statement. This is still a huge problem of mine, but I plan to work on it next semester. The last weakness I discovered was using too much research in my research papers. When we started working on research papers, I researched everything. When it was time to write my paper it was research research research. I did not tell my point of view of talk about how I felt about the topic. In my last research paper I got a little better at not using so much research but I still tend to use a little too much. I also plan to fix this going into compositions two. Theses weaknesses are not anything that cannot be fixed, and I cannot wait to start working on them next semester in comp
In the past three months I feel like I have accomplished a great deal. As the semester comes to an end I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Some how after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into the papers that I wrote this semester, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas, with the attitude of, if I could just become better in those then I would become a better writer. With help from an awesome teacher and a reliable tutor I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
I learned from my peers that I am a better writer than I thought I was and that increased my confidence in my writing ability. This didn’t just teach me about myself; I learned how to write several different types of papers. I improved throughout the semester as I learned how to analyze for rhetorical appeals, research an issue, and evaluate a topic. I am glad that I was able to learn a lot from this class, as well as read my peers work. It was intriguing to see how others write and what topic are important to them. Lastly, I was proud of all my work that I accomplished in this
The first semester of college went by fast. September felt like yesterday it’s hard to believe that we are already in November. The other day I began to think about Thanksgiving and somehow it felt as though Thanksgiving already passed. This first semester was a transition experience from perfect high school to writer to novice writer.
As my English 101 class comes to an end, I have realized how much I have transformed as a writer. In this essay, I am going to explain what I realized my strengths and weaknesses are as a writer and how they have manifested themselves throughout the quarter. I was skeptical at first coming into this class knowing that English takes formidable work and dedication, but I am very proud of the progress I have made. We completed a great deal of work throughout the quarter; from grammar exercises, summary reviews, and two challenging essays. Throughout the quarter I found myself improving in each category. As a writer, my skills and confidence have developed into more clarity and thought, something I have always wanted to be, as a result of a well constructed class that led to a superb educational experience.
This class has been significantly more difficult than any other English class I have taken all throughout high school. This semester, I have been introduced to different styles of writing that I have never been exposed to before. This class has been stressful, but also fun. With using all of the resources I have been given throughout the semester, I have been able to do my best to further my writing abilities and hopefully only continue to grow them as I finish my later years in college. Throughout this essay, I will discuss my failures, my successes, my overall performance in the class, and my skill development skills.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
I ended up contacting 3 of my family members, and I told them to be brutality honest with me. I also told them whatever they said to me would not hurt my feelings. The four people I contacted where my brother, mom and dad. My dad said that my strengths where that I’m independent and I like to work on my own, that I was very determined to be successful, and that I am very driven to be the best at everything. She said my weaknesses where time management since I sometimes put off homework till last minute, that processes where hard for me to follow because I like to do things my way, he also said that I am very needy for approval after I have completed something. My mom said that I am a hard worker and feel the need to compete tasks fast, that I am a very loyal friend, and I am very determined to succeed in life. She said for my weaknesses that I can sometimes be selfish when it comes to work because I care about me succeeding more then others, she also said that me being a loyal friend is also a weakness because I care about them as much as I care about myself, and finally she said that I can sometimes get distracted easily. According to my brother my strengths are that I am very studious when it comes to school and work, also that I am very determined in life,
In addition to recognizing the importance of work-life balance, the program also helped me nurture skills that are crucial in the promotion of an effective balance between work and other aspects of life. As I was going through the program, I was able to balance my commitments in the program with my personal life. This helped me to reduce stress and so I approached my responsibilities positively and with great energy. Furthermore, valuable tips on how to maintain proper work-life balance including the need to exercise and meditate, not to seek perfectionism, to always have a schedule and adhere to it, and ensure I stay healthy.
Occasionally the answer to a difficult question is directly in front of us. Intrinsic worth in teaching Character Education should never be a question of what, but rather how to infuse the curriculum to assist students in managing themselves with a degree of respect and fairness we need to see every day. Viewing the front wall in the ELL class room today, I could see the student agreement created August 6, 2013. The agreement is completely student centered and expressed. The teacher is merely a manager of voices and questions to help students think about answers. Every part of the agreement must be a can statement, which takes the words do not out of the equation (Twining, Michelle 2013). The repetition of the words “I Can” help ELLs connect to the phrase and vocabulary.
The test has shown that my personality can be defined as ENFJ type. People who belong to this group are good leaders, organizers and idealists. They are good at communicating with other people, finding common language with others, initiating different projects and organizing the working processes. People of ENFJ personality type possess such traits as responsibility, creativity, openness to the world, self-development and sympathy. Such people are always ready to help others and use their experience for the sake of general well-being and success. It is also said that an ENFJ-type person can easily establish relationships with other individuals and believe in the potential of others.
Personal Effectiveness is using all of our potential resources in order to achieve both work and life goals. It is when we use all our personal resources at our disposal-talent, skills, time in order to get what we want in life. In everyday life we put so much effort to get what we want to achieve in life. We spend a large amount of our time and energy. In this world many people are working towards achieving the same goal with different costs. This is because everyone has different personal effectiveness.
Psychology deals with the study of mental processes and a variety of behaviors. In order to fully comprehend ourselves, we need to understand the causes of our behaviors and our outlook on life. Habits and behaviors have positive and negative effects in our life. When we know ourselves and learn about our unique personality, we can develop and pursue goals. Psychology also helps us to understand other people and the differences of people. Gaining this knowledge can improve the relationships and enhance our communication skills. Throughout the psychology course I gained knowledge in various areas, and the topics that impacted me the most included: the introvert, anxiety disorders, stress management, self discipline and how to develop strong relationships.
Personality is the expression of a person’s traits according to ones feelings, mentality and behavior. It involves understanding individuals’ traits such as withdrawal and willpower and how various parts of an individual link together to form personality. Personality expresses itself from within an individual and is comparatively regular throughout in an individual’s life. Different people have different personalities dependent on factors such as environment and genetic composition. Our personality is dependent on the success or failure of our development in the eight stages of life. This is proposed by Erik Erikson. Success in the development stages lead to virtues while the failure leads to malignancies.
Personal Development is a lifelong process that involves the assessment of current skills and talents and the enhancement of oneself based on that assessment which then leads to the realization of goals and an improved quality of life. To be able to assess yourself, you need to be able to reflect on your past which helps you to understand the attitudes you have developed and the foundation that you will be building your life on. Also, you have to reflect on your present to see if there’s room for improvement and reflect on your future so that you can achieve your aspirations.
