A1. Leadership Styles
My leadership style would be a Transformational Leadership. I believe in the philosophy that we are everything in this universe is connected and we inter-dependent beings/non-livings. We are interdependent as individuals, but we need each other or to depend on each other to survive or strive/to be successful in this world together. We are so unique as individual, but we have different or special skills and other uniqueness about each other us. It does not matter whether we talk about human beings or other non-livings. I will use more of rewards than punishments for teams. Being a Transformational leader, I believe that I can lead them with my: vision, passion, inspiration, enthusiasm well as my special skills, and serve as their role model to accomplish what I see our department or company must accomplish or achieve to be successful now and in the future. I encouraged, motivate and make the impact on others to high productivity and engagement from all team members. I can assist my team members by doing the following:
1. To make sure my team members are aware of what the importance and values of certain rewards and how to achieve them. For example, if we can produce more quality products than what we set our goals for, we would get $1000.00 in bonus individual quarterly. We must continue to do our best for our team members and the organization, we are all can benefit together.
2. To look beyond their self- interest which mean that we have to look at the “big picture”. We do not lose our focus on the ultimate goals that we need to accomplish together. For example, if we do not produce quality products and services to compete in the job market, we would have to close down our department. When it happen, all or most of our team member may be laid off as well. We cannot just focus on own self-fulfillment, but we can focus and care about the wellbeing of the whole group and the company

Making sure that my team members (leads, supervisors, managers and directors) who are charge of our departments understand and carry out our products/services in urgent matters/deadlines. They must be having a sense of urgency in everything that we do. When they do so, we can get things done early and we can grow our businesses as well as our staff members of all levels would be happy and successful together. If they do not see the urgency, we would lose our department.
5. Making sure that I and everyone in the company are committed to greatness. We use our special skills, talents and creativities to reach our potential and greatness. I encourage and motivate them to be creative and come up with any innovations for the benefits of each individual and teams. For example, I would reward the individual and team members for coming with new ideas that make us to be # 1 company financially and other rewards.
6. Making sure all of my team members adopt a long range and broad perspective on our goals, products and services rather than narrow perspective. We must be flexible enough in our strategies and systems, so we can adapt to any changes as we see fit depend on the situations or regulations. We must think clearly and creatively on different ways about producing or providing the best quality of products/services to sell or serve our customers now and in the future. Transformational leaders exhibit personal and professional qualities that other want to emulate and follow. These leaders advance the mission in combative environments. Transformational leaders propel the growth of the team through communication. Finally, transformational leaders leave a legacy that instills pride, moral, and determination for future success.
Aside from cultural leadership, my style relates to the attributes of a transformative leader. Through analyses of the Bell Curve, Leadership Behavior, and Motivation assessments, I had a strong need to see others succeed. I see college as a transformative experience and the front desk position is able to give students the qualities to be successful after college. I inspire my employees to share my vision and help them understand the reasons behind my values. I show personal integrity, self-confidence, and optimism for the future. Though these qualities I transform the organization with a more effective team.
Bass (1990) states that transformational leadership is identified by different patterns of behavior. Firstly , transformational leadership delivers the charisma to be a leader in order to gain respect and trust. Secondly, the characteristics of a leader show efforts to change a purpose of the transformation process and to effectively communicate. Finally, transformational leadership proposes that leaders treat employees individually to show them attention and provide them coaching and advice to show that you care about your employees. However, Wang and Howell (2010) claim that transformational leadership is in every individual.This means an individual can develop their potential to enhance their abilities and skills to improve and overcome any weaknesses. In relation to group work transformational leadership helps to grow common values and beliefs, and to inspire group members to reach their group goals. In this type of situation, leaders treat equally towards members and to make them feel comfortable. However, on occasions problems occur during team work which puts a leader into a situation to overcome the condition. For example, if one of my team members has no belief in me to lead the group, my attitude towards the group and the member will change as they have shown a lack of confidence and interest in teamwork. According to Novicevic, Harvey, Buckley, Brown & Evans (2006) explains that authentic leadership is when a leader shows their individual responsibility in what they were responsible for in their organization. You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink is a proverb I have heard since I was young. Leadership is the skill of influencing people to accomplish goals (Huber, 2014). In today’s world with policy and technological changes the leaders must use their leadership skills to not only get the horse to the water, have him drink, but also do it with a smile an invite others to join him. Leaders use a variety of styles to accomplish their goals. I will discuss the leadership style that I utilize most often, how my style relates to leadership theories and the work type environment it is most useful in.
My style of leadership according to the quiz by Cherry (n.d.) is participative leadership which is a type of leadership that engages the members of the team to participate in decision making and problem solving while the leader makes the final judgment in the deliberation process. This style of leadership allows members who are experts in their fields provide input to reach a more effective and accurate decision. This fits exactly into my leadership style. I always believed that in every aspect there is a greater or lesser person than you are, so, why not focus on the best in others and tap on their expertise in knowledge or skill to get the best results.
...ram, I have also learned that it takes a combination of leadership styles and taking scenarios case by case to perform as an effective leader. My preferences would be a combination of transformational and transactional leadership. Since I work in processing, the transactional part of my leadership will have to be there, but I would strive to add leading with integrity, a shared vision, and being humble among staff members. I hold myself accountable just as I would with other team members. I understand that this approach will not always work, because situations will change and call for different types of leadership, but for the most part a combination of transactional and transformational leadership would be the most effective in the majority of situations at work.
Visionary leadership qualities help their project teams understand the true objectives and goals, as well as, how their contributions are important to achieve these goals (Preston, Moon, Simon, & Kossi, 2015). This very statement makes the visionary leadership style my number one go to style and my most beloved way of leading. To take a vision and to be able to correctly motivate and inspire your team with each individual contribution to get a job done and to further your project to the next level is amazing to me. Visionary will be the style I strive to work toward as a future leader. I see myself developing into this type of leader by working to create valuable and positive change and empowering others to become leaders that also create valuable and positive change that they believe in. I will empower others to gain a sense of identity and self to the mission, be a role model that inspires others, challenge others to take ownership of their work, and provide understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of others. To be a transformational leader I will need to display the ability to communicate clearly, listen, collaborate, empower, build strong healthy relationships, and provide others with intellectual stimulation.
Transformational leaders want individuals to make a positive change in their lives and try to help people apply a positive change on a daily basis. The leaders do this by implementing individual considerations which, according to Kendrick (2011), “treats each follower as a unique contributor and provides coaching, mentoring, feedback and growth opportunities.” This makes such an impact on people because each individual is getting different mentoring, feedback, and growth opportunities due to their unique personality. It is very important for each person to have this because everyone has a different learning ability and motivation. This helps each individual with their own distinctive endeavor.
Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership.
I clearly understand what inspires me to pursue leadership and the factors includes both internal and external. After that, I will practice the technical during teamwork to motivate others to work as a team. According to Daft, it is the leader’s responsibility to discover people’s needs and motivate correspondingly. I will talk with each member in our team to design the reward system or methods to mobilize team members during team project. I will apply the Acquired Needs Theory (p234) and write thank you card to those who accomplish complex tasks to fulfil the need for achievement. I will organize team activities, pay attention to personal life to strengthen interpersonal relationships to fulfill need for affiliation. I will listen and welcome new ideas as well as allow members to participate in strategic decision makings to meet the need for power. There are a few different types of well known leadership styles, authoritarian, delegative, and democratic. To assess my leadership style I used two online tests to help me determine my style. I felt the results were accurate and I fall into a democratic style/participative style. If I am leading I prefer to include the group and get their feedback on solving issues. However, I still make the final decision after listening to the thoughts of the group on a particular topic. This is considered to be a positive style of leadership that is inspiring to the group involved. The leaders decision making tends to be more accurate due to the input of other experts. (Cite)
