The phrases “subject to change without notice” and “sole responsibility” have been of significant importance in guiding my personal and professional development. Both have influenced my professional archetype, allowing me to construct my role as a future psychologist. In my clinical experiences in Canada and the United States, I managed patients that had co-morbidities that with appropriate psychiatric care, and psychopharmacology, not only were able to improve physiologically, but also were able to have a more meaningful life. Because of my passion for Psychiatry I have consistently been involved with Psychiatry CMEs, attended Psychiatry conferences as well as had hands on clinical rotations in Adult Psychiatry, both inpatient and outpatient. I have started working with a reputable university in Canada as a Program assistant to help improve the professional life of internationally trained Medical Professionals.
Last week at practicum was a time of renewed energy. Megan and I had a meeting with one of our supervisors and we discussed our experiences, thoughts, and concerns regarding the placement thus far. Additionally, our other supervisor completed his IPT comments, leading us to have a productive conversation about how our goals are being met and what needs to happen during term two to ensure that we achieve the remainder of our goals. Having this conversation before our mid-term evaluation was very meaningful, and at this point, I think that my practicum placement is as good as it could be. Moreover, I feel very validated by the level of support I have received from my supervisors and how they have taken our feedback of the agency seriously. Seeing my suggestions be authenticated and incorporated into the volunteer orientation makes me realize that my contributions will have a lasting impact on the community. The primary changes that I want to see are workers approaching clients from a strengths perspective instead of from a deficit one, and more mental health training for volunteers. After learning about reframing the way people think about issues during the cognitive behavioural therapy lecture in SOWK 310, I feel more prepared to give concrete strategies and examples of how workers at the agency can empower clients by using a strengths approach. In this context, reframing will aid the agency in seeing problems as opportunities
My interest in pursuing a doctorate degree in counseling psychology has been influenced by a combination of life experiences and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Though the path which has led me to this destination is complex, the journey has provided me with the clarity and insight necessary to understand human behavior from a holistic perspective. As I approach the completion of my masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I am faced with the unsettling realization that I have more questions than I do answers. This has fueled my innate desire and motivation to continue challenging myself by attaining a doctorate degree from the University of North Texas.

Your Vision as a Psychology Practitioner-Scholar Introduction One of my visions as a psychology practitioner scholar is becoming a clinical counselor. My purpose in psychology is to help people understand their life in a clear distinct way. I specifically want to target children and, help them grow and be more than they have the potential to be. I want to focus on the child development of children based on their environment. I want to be able understand children react the way they do in certain situations.
The professional development interview was very insightful because it provided me with useful knowledge and information for the career path I hope to follow. I conducted my interview with Dr. Julia Felton, who is a child clinical psychologist and a faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park. In addition to working as a researcher and Director of the Clinical Psychological Sciences Masters Program, she also works in a private practice, providing clinical care to primarily children and adolescences. Her research focuses on Dr. Felton’s research focuses broadly on gender differences in developmental psychopathology.
A straightforward, transparent profession holds no fulfilling qualities for me. A gratifying career is only earned through many days of full dedication, perseverance and hard work. Providing an important service back to the surrounding community is not only a righteous cause, but a career I want to devote myself to. Social work presents the opportunity to make this difference in the most intimate format, face-to-face. Originally, I dreamed of pursuing a career involving wildlife much like my father, however after attending a career day function in sixth grade I knew I wanted to pursue the profession of social work. Seeing that deep of a passion in someone in their field of work was both astounding and breathtaking. The presenter that day glowed with such eagerness to share the love of her job that she had with us. It motivated me to look into social work as a serious option for my future. With vigorous research and finally job shadowing I knew this was the career I truly desired. Furthermore, social work has aided me in countless occasions such as my struggles regarding pursuing education as a female.

It is no secret that our country is seriously lacking when it comes to managing the mental health issues of its citizens. Not only are mental health services expensive and not covered by many types of insurance, but mental health care providers are not always easy to find. To this end I have developed a career goal that is not something I see coming with a specific job title or one that I can see reaching without the help of others. My career goal is to use my background in both information technology and psychology to benefit those in need and to expand mental health care services into communities that are currently lacking easy access to the services.
Nurses need a seat at the table to ensure they have a voice to influence and shape their future. Nursing is constantly evolving and changing, and employers continue to raise the bar for nursing. Nurses understand early in their career the importance of continuing education to enhance future career opportunities. Professional development relates to how nurses continue to broaden their knowledge, skills, and expertise throughout their career, therefore enhancing their professional practice. As someone who has many aspirations in life, I understand having both long and short-term goals is important. One of my long-term professional objectives includes being a community service manager at a health center. Professional development is a lifelong journey. In order for one to examine his/her individual skills, qualities, needs, and opportunities, one must be able to identify future goals. Part of identifying future goals is being able to recognize weaknesses, use of time management, and different ways to invest in oneself to make the most of his/her future. According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development.
