Your Vision as a Psychology Practitioner-Scholar
Introduction
One of my visions as a psychology practitioner scholar is becoming a clinical counselor. My purpose in psychology is to help people understand their life in a clear distinct way. I specifically want to target children and, help them grow and be more than they have the potential to be. I want to focus on the child development of children based on their environment. I want to be able understand children react the way they do in certain situations. Children have a way of not being able to express themselves fully so being able to help them understand their emotions.
Vision
My vision as a practitioner scholar in the field of psychology lies in clinical counseling. As a clinical counselor
I observe people around me and try to as well understand their actions and why they react the way they do in certain situations. The more I realized that I like to help people with their problems, the more I realized that I was in the right field to help people understand their own life better. I don’t always have the answers but, I do what it takes to understand a situation more so that I am able to get the answers. I believe that my purpose is to help people understand their life a little better and speak great over their lives. I would mostly like to help children out so that I am able to help them understand their feelings. Children are usually more vulnerable than anyone else in the world. Becoming a practitioner scholar in this field means learning about different mental illness so that I am better prepared when I encounter different patients. I took and abnormal psychology class where we briefly went over each mental disorder but I would like to be able to go more in depth. During my time in this class we did several case studies, where I learned to diagnose different clients and give possible treatments. I would like to go beyond this method and learn more as I get more into clinical psychology. Also I would like to indulge more in
One of the benefits is able to handle any situation with patients that you encounter. Another benefit of being a practitioner scholar is that you are knowledgeable in the field. I currently work in a call center environment and it’s important to be knowledgeable, people want to know that you are able to provide accurate information and sound confident in doing so. Being a practitioner scholar in this field of psychology is the same. In order to guide people in the right direction in a counseling section, you want to know what you are speaking about and sound confident when you are speaking about it. I am committed to achieving this goal because I once doubted that I would ever get to this point in my life. I struggled to always push myself in my undergraduate studies, but now at this point as I am older I am now able to stay committed and get things done. I am excited that I am getting closer to being a clinical counselor. I have always enjoyed listening and helping others out and, being a practitioner scholar in the field of psychology is something I know I will enjoy
The practitioner-scholar learning model will allow me to use my cognitive skills to approach any problem that may arise throughout my studies and professional career. Together with my personal experience and expansion of knowledge in the Child and Adolescent Development field of psychology, I will be able to utilize my skills to my greatest ability as a

I have wanted to be a counselor since my freshmen year of high school and in the counseling field there are many specialties that I can focus on. I am fairly certain that I want to specialize in helping people with substance abuse and their families. I have always focused my studies, interests, and work on things that will help me in this field and I have a lot of qualities that help to enhance me in my eventual career. There are difficulties when I get to practice also like what people perceive as correct counseling style, challenges with my gender and race, and finally creating my own counseling style and plans.
I know as I further my education in the counseling field my philosophy of counseling will change. For myself, I feel that I am still young and learning about myself and my surroundings. In my eyes to be suitable to help others I need to continue to grow as a person myself both professionally and mentally. I want to be able to move forward and develop new distinctions and aspects to my philosophy of counseling as time goes on. I hope to continue my growth in understanding of what it means to be a good therapist or counselor by using good theories and techniques to help future clients.
Psychologists who provide services to others must work within the boundaries of their competence. Competence is based on supervised experience, education, professional experience, and consultation studies. Psychologists are expected to have knowledge about the different areas of competencies and the foundational areas of psychology. When providing services to children, adolescents, and adults, you must possess knowledge of appropriate assessments, therapeutic techniques, intervention procedures, and the ability to perform, plan and implement your areas of demonstrated competence. Maintaining competence throughout your professional role as a licensed psychologist is crucial. Psychology is continually
My first semester in college, I took a Psychology 101 course and immediately knew I wanted to work in this field. I was drawn into different theories and how individual’s minds work. I always believed I was born to help others and guide them to success in life. I desire to help others because of my own personal struggles with mental illness. My unique perspective on mental illness allows me to empathize on a different level with individuals. I desire to give back and support to the community the way it was there for me during my dark times. I was lucky to have known from the start that psychology was my interest. I am excited to continue my education in the counseling field and become a future Clinical Mental Health Counselor.
My dedication to the field of psychology is evident in the various activities in which I am involved. I am a student affiliate of the American Psychological Association, as well as a student member of the Iowa Psychological Association. I have been actively involved in the community as a volunteer working with patients, families, and staff in the emergency room of a local hospital. I have been a devoted member of the psychology club for two years and am currently serving my first year as an officer (Vice-president of Special Events). Finally, I have been a teaching assistant under the supervision of Dr. Frank Barrios, clinical psychologist, and Dr. jack Yates, cognitive psychologist, both of the University of Northern Iowa, where I have had such responsibilities as preparing and grading exams and essays, holding office hours, working with individual students, assisting students with assignments and presentations, and answering any questions students may have about the material. Not only do I feel confident about my preparation in psychology, I am also working toward a minor in sociology, acquiring knowledge of the human relations that exist between the individual and the community.
My motivation is based on two things. Firstly, I really want to help other people as much as I can. The understanding of human behaviour is the key for me to help others improve their well-being. This made me start seeking for information and experiences beyond the university’s classes and books. There was 30 hours of supervised Clinical Child Psychology Practice, where I was shadowing a professional psychologist at an Educational Consultancy. I really liked my time there and I felt like I could not have chosen any other career. In 2014 I joined a foundation where we were developing autistic children’s social skills and perceptions with movements and exercises. In these months I saw different children with different disabilities. It was
My overall vision for contributing to the specialized field of psychology as a practitioner-scholar would be to use what I learned from the model to enhance theoretical concepts and exercise well-thought-out empirical inquiry to study the usefulness of professional intercessions. My long-term goals that help you achieve your vision are once in the field I will then constantly challenge myself and use all the methodologies and skills to be a better psychologist and apply it to my everyday life as well.
Within the individual psychology relationship the counselor has several roles that they hold. The counselor establishes an egalitarian relationship, working as teachers in their relationships. They model, teach, and assess areas of the client’s life such as how Ana grew up the middle child and her ways of responding and functioning. The counselor’s role is also to direct and encourage Ana, being warm and human, and admitting their own mistakes when necessary (Gladding, 2005; Murdock, 2013).
Throughout this course I have learned a lot about psychology. I will talk about how it affected me personally, socially, organizationally/societal, and the lasting impact it had in my life.

My goal is to work in a mental health setting as soon as I graduate with my BSW. I would like to see if I should get my masters in social work or get my doctorate in psychology. Either way, I feel like I will be doing a great thing. As a professional, I want to help many people with their problems. I will encourage their opinions and ideas as well as help them form plans to better their
