Students were walking around the school during passing period, when a teacher stopped them. The teacher told them that their shorts were too short because it did not go past their fingertips. The students were not wearing inappropriate shorts at all. In fact, the shorts were longer than some other students in their grade. At Hebron Middle Middle School, the dress code rules are fair for some, but not fair for others. Students are worried that they are breaking rules of the dress code even if they look modest. One of the Hebron Middle School dress code rules is, “Shorts and skirts must extend below extended finger tips.” The website, koshercasual.com says, “As opposed to uniforms, dress codes still allow students to wear what they want which leaves students with a sense of choice and expression.” Girls with short arms can wear inappropriate shorts that follow the dress code. Other girls have shorts down to their knees, so they can follow the dress code. The shorts are allowed to be tight on people, but they can’t extend below the fingertips. In the website koshercasual.com, it said, ““At the beginning of every semester we would sit in homeroom as our teacher went over the school guidelines, sighing when he made it to the dress code, "You guys know what's OK."” Of course teachers will always be teachers, and they will tell students if the clothing is provocative. If the school doesn’t let us dress inappropriately to begin with, that won’t change if the rule gets amended. Students might be uncomfortable looking at other people in shorter shorts. Students can wear what they want if they are following the dress code.
